In the 1920's and 30's "jazz" was the dance music of America. In the 50's it transformed into a mathematical compilation of ad lib solos within key.

By 1930, Victor engineers pretty much had mastered getting a full sound at record sessions. Just listen to other recordings on this label done around the same period. Also, the style of this record is kind of like the Whiteman records he was on. A pop tune played relatively straight. A vocalist who had excellent diction, Joe Venuti on violin for a brief segment, short piano solo and finally a brief spot of jazz at the end with a nice chorus by Bix leading the tune to it's conclusion.

@ThatsaCryinShame It's 1920s jazz -- peppier and with more "form" to it than modern jazz, which I think tends to "noodle around" too much and not get anywhere. But that's just my opinion.

Joe Venuti is playing the violin, Irving Brodsky the piano- and Weston Vaughan is the vocalist. Also featured in the rgoup are Eddie Lang, Bud Freeman, the Dorsey brothers and Benny Goodman. This was from Bix' last session as a orchestra leader...and one of the saddest, as he was "falling apart", due to alcoholism.

@written12 A excellent condition Victor 78 from 1930 with proper stylus, minor mechanical noise reduction and equalization will sound this good. No digital necessary. Google Souvenir VSP from KAB Audio
