Well, as to the appeal of crying dolls, I think it's something of an open secret that grief, or sorrow, is pleasurable, though perhaps not to all people. The most familiar example of this that I can think of is going to sad movies for a Good Cry.
@saugagirl83 That was probly why this doll didn't stay on the market long. They probably thought the little girls would imitate this on their baby brothers or sisters.
@MJandST2926 Agreed. What REALLY gets me in this commercial is the melancholy jingle sung by what sounds like an Olivia Newton-John/Loretta Lynn sound-alike.
I think Baby Alive "ate" special baby food too now that I think about it-I remember having a pink 2-3 section dish and white spoon for it. I could be making it up too.
I grew up in this era and I didn' t like these dolls either, although someone in my family bought me a 'Baby Burps-A-Lot' and I thought that one was pretty cool LOL
Good eye spotting Danielle Brisebois of "Archie Bunker's Place." Couldn't have been Drew Barrymore, though, because she'd have been a year old at the time.

Also known as Baby Depression, with Prozac-laced formula.

That's pretty cool -probably pretty good technology for 1976, though probably all you do is put water in its ears or something.

Here's a way to stop the crying, which always works:
Put a pillow over its head and smother it.
Then call it Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

That baby sure has emotional problems. Being easily softened when it comes to these baby doll commercials, this makes me cry too... :'(

AWW! The little girl with black hair was Danielle Brisebois Stephanie from All In The family, who was the little blonde haired girl?
Sheri451 2 years ago
I had this doll. I wanted her and Baby Alive (the doll that poops) but only got this one.
RadioLaPrincess 2 years ago
yeah, um, I'm a girl and I wanted nothing to do with baby dolls, especially ones that cry and pee. Mrs. Beasley and Jane West were my only dolls.
snarkdetriomphe 2 years ago
I think baby may have cried because little mommy was breaking her neck.

What about Baby Alive--she drank and wet. Or Baby That-Away that crawled--I had those dolls.

Danielle Brisebois and Drew Barrymore?
These dolls made sure they started training little girls early on their matronly instincts and duties.
