the marked increase in cannabis use is MOST LIKELY because there are more people coming out of the shadows... out into the open... the COPS won't BUST US ANYMORE right.. well , we can relax a bit , huh
it should NEVER have been made ILLEGAL in the first place.. ---------------- REMEMBER THAT ------------------- no REGULATIONS , no TAXES , no PRISONS , no DEA SWAT RAIDS no ASSET CONFISCATION , no GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION ! nick off OBAMA. ! VOTE >>>>>>>>>>NO PROHIBITION <<<<<<<<<<<< VOTE FREEDOM & HUMAN RIGHTS. No compromise. GO the TOMATO MODEL. ... free to GROW & USE as we DECIDE.. USA government is full of IDEOLOGICAL MORALIST FUNDAMENTALIST morons. they DO NOT OWN my BODY & my MIND !!!
What a retard. Of course it is still "illegal" to have drugs in Portugal. And that is only because of the international agreements that Portugal is obliged to comply with. What a moron.
If you treat a drug addict like the PACIENT he is, instead of a criminal , it is destined to widely reduce drug usage ! We just help them, instead of giving them a label and putting them ( us ... ) into jail ! There is no real question or doubt !
Ok, now some sense of reality. I am portuguese. Born and raised in Lisbon. I am now 33, so i know then and now. Portugal is not a drug or sex tourist resort. Drugs are not legal, you can`t sell them for a living, you`ll go to court and jail. The diference is, instead of locking addicts in drug and criminal infested jails, and spending money in that process, we decided to use it to cure and give a chance to those people to become productive and active members of society, not criminals. It worked
@pedrogradex yeah, times really changed for the better. 10 years ago the fear of getting mugged by an addict at needle-point, or the stories of addicts robbing stores or cars or whatever for drug money, were common place. For all the crap the Portuguese Government did (and does) in regards to corruption and poor management, the drug decriminalization program had a truly palpable and positive effect on society, and should be examined on its own merits as an example for others to follow.
what a load of bollox , this guy has never been to Portugal, you cannot deny the fact that the overall positives far outweigh the negitives also an added gained respect for the system ,so all are heading in the right direction not chasing tails
I think the bottom line of treatment in america is culture. State sponcered addiction is good only $20 for a bed and u can stay there as long as you like with drugs and food included.
@jaysteinbourg I don't drink or do drugs so,now what? I feel asleep, like I said, because dude didn't get to the point. People need to learn to get to the point, in speaking and writing.
The drug laws in the United States have an absolutely disasterous affect on our society. Complete legalization of most drugs would be the answer. The drug-users of today are scapegoated. This causes a tremendous increase in crime.
5 years after legalization even Christian news organizations reported that all drug use was down except for marijuana which was only up in one age group 18-25
"If people let government decide which foods they eat and medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny."
@ilikepez keep in mind a Islamic world keeps drugs criminal as well, it's basically about oppression, and you definitely don't have to be Christian only to be a "nazi" (btw, I'm an agnostic/athiest/whatever)
@DavidtheDuke I am sorry but I had too much HATE in me to care making my comment more political correct in religious matters which isn't the point anyways
Drug use has actually gone down across the board in Portugal. More people are seeking treatment for previous drug addiction, and less money is being spent on keeping people in prison. I bet this dude is from the DEA. Bastards...
This is an American right? WTF does he know? I've been to Portugal since the "decriminalization" ,a semantic argument is all, still it can be called legal. so what? And there was no real information about the outcomes itself. Only this one OPINION

Clearly the man in the video is not Portuguese. It is true, only the Brazilians are left.
Ahaha, crack addicts. How can you not be a dependent on the system?
How can this be? Portugal and Netherland are doing fine. Productivity actually gone up the roof with sex tourist and drug tourist.

no such thing as marijuana abuse
alcohol abuse is abuse
heroin cocaine abuse is also abuse
guevodeplomo 1 year ago
@guevodeplomo Wrong. Marijuana can be abused just as Alcohol and Crack can be abused. Dont confuse use with abuse.

now they should allow drug cultivation to help Portugal out of poverty.
Finally there would be some serious exports. LOL
problem would be that as usual only a minority would make the money.

If you own your own body, nobody has any right to tell you what to do with it. "Vice" crimes are not crimes at all in any meaningful way.
Drug abuse is a medical problem. Abusers should be in rehab, not in prison learning to become a hard criminal.
buff001 2 years ago 44
Drug use is about freedom of choice. Any law against drug use is a violation of human rights.
