I just stumbled upon you guys a couple of days ago, and I have to say I love your videos, particularly the Crash Course channel. Everyone should strive for your appreciation of life and your profound faith in humanity. You touch on sincerely important everyday issues in a way that relates strongly your audience. The latest evidence indicated that the indus civiliization died after major earthquakes caused the rivers like sarawasti river to dry up and the indus river to shift its waterflow away from the indus valley civilization cities and towns. The current pakistanis and north indians are descended from aryans who came after the indus valley civilization collapsed. Some say the surviours moved to the Ganges & Yamuna rivers and restarted their civilzaltion. The cities on the Ganges are their colonies
I think that they started that civilization with all of the peace and stiff because they came from a really cruel and harsh and strict civilization and thought it was wrong, so they went off and made their own happy civilization that flourished. thats just my opinion. :o)
Question...so if the indus valley civ. packed up and left, where did they go? Have archeologists found any evidence that the took up residence somewhere else? That theory makes a lot of sense, but I've personally never come across any evidence that their civ. survived in another place, but was simply destroyed. Perhaps you could enlighten me? thanks! ^_^
@epicpolyphony What I got from the video is that they were sort of absorbed, they didnt move anywhere, they just slowly fizzled out. Like (some claim) neanderthals.
@epicpolyphony one theory is that the indu valley surviours moved to the Ganges & Yamuna rivers and restarted their civilzaltion. The ancient cities found along the Ganges are their colonies. The horned figure meantioned in this video is suspected to be a early proto Shiva. As for bathing pools. to this day the old indian temples built from 3 000 years ago to few hundreds before the current present contain bathing pools for the priests and worshippers.
Wonderful, I found this video the day of my World Pre-history midterm that was mostly about the Harrapan civilization. ...and I found this 5 hours after I took the midterm. Fuck.
@DonutSlayer99 i think his comment was referring to the fact that Houston is notorious for not have any planning in its layout -- whereas apparently these indus valley cities (more like chicago) were more planned. i also bet mohenjo-daro was a lot smaller than either- like the size of Famous Nagodoches, tX.

@Ayelis When the data from the 2001 election was collected, there was a statistical margin of error of about 2%. The popular vote was too close to call. The Electoral College, which actually decides the president,a system of which I find myself at odds with at times, favored Bush, and thus Bush was selected. Still, this Electoral College is neither fascist nor authoritarian nor nationalistic.
I neither attacked your freedom of speech nor proclaimed myself a fascist. Stop spurting ignorance.
@Ayelis And honestly, if you're okay with an average, everyday joe, with no knowledge of or care for politics and diplomacy, that comes along suddenly becoming a key significant figure in one of the most powerful nations in the world, then something is wrong with you.

Indianapolis is actually built on the White River. It was thought investment in canals could link the Wabash and Lake Michigan to turn Indianapolis into a great trade hub. Railroads surpassed canals and now we rely on great riverbeds of concrete for wheeled barges.
The Greeks basically divided the world into two groups: The Greeks (themselves) and the barbarians. The Romans divided it into three: The Romans (themselves), the Greeks (who they eventually conquered), and barbarians.

Question. When you say "the mongols", do you mean all mongols or specificaly the huns? because I'm not an expert on history but the huns tecnicaly are not mongols, as their origin is not truly known. So i think it is better to call them "the huns" instead of "the mongols" if that's is the case. I know, I'm a perfectionist and it's very irritating to some people. I'm sorry.
Is it possible that those seals were like portraits of people or something, with that pointy hat chap being the focus, and those animals being background, distanced material? I'm probably completely wrong, but it seems to me like the guy with the hat is saying, "Yo, check it out, animal horn hats are a thing now," and the artist/sculptor/creator is thinking, "Pfft, that's a boring hat. Let's whack some interesting shizzle in this picture. Maybe a bull. And a lion. Bam! I AM AWESOME."
Just because they had planning doesn't necessarily mean they had government. Many organizations that are not governments engage in planning. Corporations, labor unions, cooperatives, the occupy movement, student groups, etc.
@jgolowka You seem to be taking quite a narrow definition of the word. A government is simply a power structure which creates rules and sub-systems in pursuit of a goal. Although popular definition refers to our current system of political organization and its power structures, any organization which engages in planning in the active pursuit of a goal could be considered a government.
@Myrdden Sociology 101 says that a government/state is an organization which attempts to monopolize violence. This is basic social science. You are conflating government with organization. Furthermore, if the state were the same as organization, saying the Indus Valley Civilization had a government would be meaningless as every society has some form of organization.
@jgolowka Perhaps you are right and my definition was too broad as yours was too narrow. But do not make the mistake of equating Government with State. The State is a relatively recent socio-political invention. Although the terms are somewhat interchangeable currently, governments existed long before the Nation-state.
We are so interested in each other in a grand social form, but why B.C.E.? I know they say before the common era but what exactly shifted before-the-common-era to after-the-common-era?? Was it Gee-Zus again or someother grand schesim? I know that has to do with policial correctness, since it hurts pinpricks to say Before Christ and Ano Domini. Honestly I shift my focus from the apparent greatness of exinct cultures to stupid legal terms, my bad.
@DOTCurrency Here's the problem with that. In order to build a city (I'm assuming you meant a city with inhabitants and not just yourself.), you need cooperation. In order to have cooperation, you need some sort of organisation. When there is organisation, there will almost always going to be some form of leadership or directing, especially on a larger scale. And that's how a "government" or "ruling body" forms, and thus anarchy cannot truly exist so long as groups exist.
@Kognosco That's not entirely true; see Hok Nam. There was no organization or government, and they had around 35,000 people living in a city that reached up to 14 stories high.
@berin99 Can you supply me a link for the information on that? I can't seem to find it in Google. Naturally, I have questions. How was the city built? How did the inhabitants react towards crime and poverty? What was the community like? How was a city of roughly 35,000 "made" without some sort of organisation? There at least has to be some degree of cooperation or organisation and therein lies the "government". Such a concept is natural enough that it exists in every family.
@Kognosco Government doesn't have to mean Fascism. Imagine a government where President, House and Senate members are selected, completely at random, the way judicial juries are selected. Banks or Big Business could not hope to corrupt such a system, and you would have a true democracy in line with the ideas of the people, not a farce like the U.S. is running now.
@Ayelis I never made a comment about a government being fascist, but instead about a "ruling body" or otherwise occurring naturally. I also never made a comment about the American government and corruption, and I never intend to. However, if you actually do believe that the government of the United States of America is a fascist one, I do ask you to check yourself into the mental hospital nearest to you.
@Kognosco Oh, it is quite obviously a fascist one. By "farce" I mean "fascism parading as something it isn't". I'm saying that if the members of the government that have power were elected at random(and not allowed to serve another term) instead of elected in a popularity contest, we would have a much better system.
@Ayelis A system where leaders are elected at random is heavily subject to corruption and inefficiency. Anyone could be randomly chosen and therein lies the inefficiency, and how they are chosen can be corrupted. On the other hand, neither the United States of America nor its government is nationalistic or radical or authoritarian. Thus it is not fascist by face or by nature.
Besides, I'm not going to bother arguing anymore with someone who thinks an election process is fascistic in nature.
@Kognosco Way to vote for Freedom of Speech. I don't think I'd like to bother arguing with a self-proclaimed fascist. But in case you're just poorly representing yourself, I'll say this.
Randomly select leaders from the unemployed. Right now a majority of the House and Senate have "second jobs" with major corporations. Suddenly, the unemployed people have jobs. Killing two birds with one stone; 500 jobs created. Leaders found. And who knows better what's wrong with the country?
@Ayelis Side comment: A "true" democracy would be or eventually be an ochlocracy, or tyranny of the majority. However, since there are many different interpretations of "democracy", I'm leaving this as a side comment. I do stand by Thomas Jefferson on this one, though, as he said, "A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine." This probably explains why the American government is best described as a Republic.
@Kognosco Side comment: To avoid an ochlocracy, every percentage of the vote must be represented. In a budget ballot, when 57% of the people vote to improve school systems and 43% of the people vote to renew the roads, 43% of the budget goes into road renewal. You don't just ignore roads because the majority voted for schools. Simple fix.

They were Vedic culture. "Ved" just means "Knowledge" They practiced Yog. "Yog" means union of mind, body, and the universe.
The Vedas did not come from the Caucuses, this is a now defunct theory from the early 20th century.

Corporations, labor unions, cooperatives, the occupy movement, student groups, etc.
jgolowka 1 week ago
@jgolowka You seem to be taking quite a narrow definition of the word. A government is simply a power structure which creates rules and sub-systems in pursuit of a goal. Although popular definition refers to our current system of political organization and its power structures, any organization which engages in planning in the active pursuit of a goal could be considered a government.
Myrdden 1 week ago
@Myrdden Sociology 101 says that a government/state is an organization which attempts to monopolize violence. This is basic social science. You are conflating government with organization. Furthermore, if the state were the same as organization, saying the Indus Valley Civilization had a government would be meaningless as every society has some form of organization.
jgolowka 1 week ago
@jgolowka Perhaps you are right and my definition was too broad as yours was too narrow. But do not make the mistake of equating Government with State. The State is a relatively recent socio-political invention. Although the terms are somewhat interchangeable currently, governments existed long before the Nation-state.
Myrdden 1 week ago
We are so interested in each other in a grand social form, but why B.C.E.? I know they say before the common era but what exactly shifted before-the-common-era to after-the-common-era?? Was it Gee-Zus again or someother grand schesim? I know that has to do with policial correctness, since it hurts pinpricks to say Before Christ and Ano Domini. Honestly I shift my focus from the apparent greatness of exinct cultures to stupid legal terms, my bad.

A city can be built without a government
DOTCurrency 2 weeks ago
@DOTCurrency An example... Smartaaa...
Luis519RS 1 week ago
@DOTCurrency Here's the problem with that. In order to build a city (I'm assuming you meant a city with inhabitants and not just yourself.), you need cooperation. In order to have cooperation, you need some sort of organisation. When there is organisation, there will almost always going to be some form of leadership or directing, especially on a larger scale. And that's how a "government" or "ruling body" forms, and thus anarchy cannot truly exist so long as groups exist.
Kognosco 1 week ago 46
@Kognosco That's not entirely true; see Hok Nam. There was no organization or government, and they had around 35,000 people living in a city that reached up to 14 stories high.
berin99 1 week ago
@berin99 Can you supply me a link for the information on that? I can't seem to find it in Google. Naturally, I have questions. How was the city built? How did the inhabitants react towards crime and poverty? What was the community like? How was a city of roughly 35,000 "made" without some sort of organisation? There at least has to be some degree of cooperation or organisation and therein lies the "government". Such a concept is natural enough that it exists in every family.
Kognosco 1 week ago
@Kognosco Government doesn't have to mean Fascism. Imagine a government where President, House and Senate members are selected, completely at random, the way judicial juries are selected. Banks or Big Business could not hope to corrupt such a system, and you would have a true democracy in line with the ideas of the people, not a farce like the U.S. is running now.
Ayelis 1 week ago
@Ayelis I never made a comment about a government being fascist, but instead about a "ruling body" or otherwise occurring naturally. I also never made a comment about the American government and corruption, and I never intend to. However, if you actually do believe that the government of the United States of America is a fascist one, I do ask you to check yourself into the mental hospital nearest to you.
Kognosco 1 week ago
@Kognosco Oh, it is quite obviously a fascist one. By "farce" I mean "fascism parading as something it isn't". I'm saying that if the members of the government that have power were elected at random(and not allowed to serve another term) instead of elected in a popularity contest, we would have a much better system.
Ayelis 1 week ago
@Ayelis A system where leaders are elected at random is heavily subject to corruption and inefficiency. Anyone could be randomly chosen and therein lies the inefficiency, and how they are chosen can be corrupted. On the other hand, neither the United States of America nor its government is nationalistic or radical or authoritarian. Thus it is not fascist by face or by nature.
Besides, I'm not going to bother arguing anymore with someone who thinks an election process is fascistic in nature.
Kognosco 1 week ago
@Kognosco Way to vote for Freedom of Speech. I don't think I'd like to bother arguing with a self-proclaimed fascist. But in case you're just poorly representing yourself, I'll say this.
Randomly select leaders from the unemployed. Right now a majority of the House and Senate have "second jobs" with major corporations. Suddenly, the unemployed people have jobs. Killing two birds with one stone; 500 jobs created. Leaders found. And who knows better what's wrong with the country?
Ayelis 1 week ago
@Ayelis Side comment: A "true" democracy would be or eventually be an ochlocracy, or tyranny of the majority. However, since there are many different interpretations of "democracy", I'm leaving this as a side comment. I do stand by Thomas Jefferson on this one, though, as he said, "A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine." This probably explains why the American government is best described as a Republic.
Kognosco 1 week ago
@Kognosco Side comment: To avoid an ochlocracy, every percentage of the vote must be represented. In a budget ballot, when 57% of the people vote to improve school systems and 43% of the people vote to renew the roads, 43% of the budget goes into road renewal. You don't just ignore roads because the majority voted for schools. Simple fix.
