Just curious. Should he have assisted the ventilations at any point, using a BVM with high flow oxygen? Or is that option completely unnecessary. I'm kind of confused as to weather his respiratory rate (24) and pulse (124, rapid, irregular) constitutes inadequacy for breathing...help someone! :)
@arawatbituin assisting ventilations would only really be necessary if the patient did not improve with the supplemental O2 he is receiving. As long as the patient is alert and able to follow directions (ie. slow ur breathing and breathe deeper) you should not have to provide positive pressure ventilations. The rates/rhythm themselves do not automatically equal inadequate respirations. Mentation and appearance are better indicators.
@JHaslip excellent observation! one of the many failings in this video. However, this is the department's standard and the evaluators are told to follow it. You would not fail for doing the step and you would actually be in better shape to save a life one day. Good luck!
a contraindication to nitro. is ed medicines like viagra its a REAL easy way to have a patient crash on you (BP bottom out), so make sure that with a cardiac patient that you be blunt when asking about you med's in your sample history, bls trucks where im from can assist with nitro w/ consent of med control, but if you missed that one med and you push it, there's gonna be hell geting him back, since bls doesn't carry dopeamine so hope like hell als is in route and not delayed
holly CRAP this makes me nervous. i HOPE i dont draw medical mine is coming up next week :-/ o my instructor would of had my butt if i reached over the patient and took a BP
actually there not... we are going to have to draw cards i might do it i might not... i am testing for NREMT-IV and we don't have to do both, i DID have to do both on my practicle skills check off though if that's what your talking about...but i have all of those signed off... now for paramedic you have to do every station...
The NREMT does not have an "IV" course that I know of. You are taking a state course and the may be using the NREMT as a "guide", but it will not result in a national certification. The NREMT only certifies "B", "I", and "Ps".
I'm guessing he leaned over it because most of those manikins can only have their blood pressure taken on one side. Still probably should have walked around.

The whole "stepping over your patient" is a teaching peeve, not a real standard. Individual preference, but it should be avoided in avoidable.
