And yeah, I see where you are coming from there... and I didn't JUST sign up for a youtube account to post all that... this was just the thing that was needed to get me to quit being lazy and make one for a certain upcoming project of mine that was hinted at during the panel that has been in the works for a LONG while... heh
@PokeMentor What, there where three abridged series panels I went to, number one in my book was the SMA panel, which was really short and sweet, the other two panels just weren't as good in my opinion, nothing about bias, I went in expecting a panel and that is what I got, I have to say my favorite part was the video by LK and Kroze.
@PokeMentor It has nothing to do with bias, I stated my opinion. I didn't say that the panel was bad, I just said it wasn't my favorite. I'm entitled to my opinion, just like you are, but don't tell me I have bias because I wasn't drooling over this panel.
@nevet1212 While I think the one guy is being unnecessarily harsh, I do think that putting "It was not my favourite, I can tell you that right now" has a fairly hostile vibe to it. Seemed rather unnecessary.
I'm glad you got the footage though, either way. I missed out on the con, so it's nice to get to see it online.
@CardGamesFTW I didn't mean to sound harsh, PokeMentor made me very unhappy with his comment and I guess if he worded it differently, I wouldn't sound so bad... love how the first LK comment I have is about me being harsh showing people my vacation videos with my thoughts on the experience.

It says "I can tell you that right now", which usually implies some sort of bitter or condescending tone toward the person in question. "You're not my favourite person, I can tell you that right now" - would that not come across as an attack to you?
@1KidsEntertainment Nothing against you or anyone else in the panel, but when the panel was asked about videogame abridged series it seemed that the general answer from the panel was that videogames could not be made into an abridged series because it would in fact be a machinima, while I find that answer to be a false one, I feel silly for holding a "grudge" if it can be called that, towards anyone. I guess I got offended when the entire panel said basically, videogames can't be abridged series

Anyway what I was mainly saying is like 1Kids pointed out, is there a certain line that separates machinima and abridged series? Keep in mind that unlike "Abridged Series" which is a sub-genre of parody and fan/gag dubbing, Machinima is considered its own unique form of filmmaking unto itself. The way I look at it is "Abridged Series" is its own self given title by their creators...

I doubt it because of the vague definition of it all.,,

Filming in real time within an artificial environment as if you were shooting in live action as opposed to actual 3D animation where every frame has to be rendered before motion is able to be achieved. Unless you are directly taking someone's already captured footage from the game and editing that, then when filming yourself playing the game, you ARE doing machinima to make your show if its an abridged series or not.
@Kr0z3 ... the whole thing on the panel of what I was trying to do was make people take note of what meaning does the term Abridged Series even have with the way its used and does calling your work an Abridged Series have any real factor into your show itself besides "Oh, people know Abridged Series are funny so when they hear that in the name they will think I am trying to turn this show into something funny"? Are there any real positives or negatives to calling your work an "Abridged Series"?
@Kr0z3 Also going off what 1Kids was mentioning with "did any of us say that video game parodies are exclusively machinima?", Dorkly does video game parodies all the time where they go and edit sprites from 2D 8/16 bit games animating them and giving them voices along with other stuff. Is this Machinima? No, it is not because they are actually animating the sprites and none of it is being "filmed" in real time within the original engine but yet it is still very clearly a video game parody.
@Kr0z3 But the thing is, I record game play footage, then I leave that as a basis for what I need, I don't play the game and do the voices while I play, I do the voices then put the video over them, and cut together all the footage I have to make a video.

Granted I do know that adamwestslapdog does take the footage from someone else's lets plays of LoZ games and then edits that footage adding various things to it to make his Abridged Series and that's where defining things breaks down.

Is it to make yourself think you are doing something no one else has done before?

I actually did a Wind Waker machinima series a long while back called "The Other Side" which was essentially a retelling of the game if Toon Link was a dumbass.

@Kr0z3 Well, I heard about abridged series first, the first one I saw was from adamwestslapdog, and later when I got a youtube, I thought it would be fun to make videos, so I called them Legend of Zelda Abridged, it followed the story, mostly, and I condensed it, make it "abridged" as it where. I really am not trying to get a crap ton of views, that is just icing. I had so much fun the first time I made them, I belted out 25 episodes in less than two months.
