hi, i have been following a little bodyweight routine i made for myself for about 5 months now and have put on roughly 7.5kg since i started, is this a good gain for someone of slender build? this is my current routine- every 2 days i do; 50 chinups 50 pullups 100 situps 100 bicycle sit-ups 100 pushups are there any improvements that could be done to this workout? any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've heard that when doin any kind of excercise, I should never end up with straight arms, because then all your weight stands directly on your joints, like elbows in case of pushups. Is that true?
Noooo, not that :D Of yourse you can, but you can't for example land on straight legs. And by the way, even stading for long time hurts your knees :)
I just mean, for example, when exercising bench press, you shouldn't lift the weight all the way up and straighten the hands, for it can damage your elbow. And I've heard the same about pushups, but am not certain about it. So I just ask, whether it is true or not.
@Bodyweightcultureman That's a silly response. Ever heard of tennis elbow? If you hyperextend the knee joint continuously you will end up with damaged knees. If fully extend the elbow, as I'm assuming the questioner means, you'll end up with damaged elbow joints. It's common sense and doesn't require a degree in exercise science.
This video is the best I've seen on the topic of Hindu Pushups. And it looks like the producer (BWC) is a real athlete who DOES what he preaches! Many thanks for doing this video and posting it.
Actually there are some 8 different variations of the Hindu Pushup. One of the advanced versions includes what is called the dive bomber pushup. The absolute advanced version is a planche-handstand combination. The original Hindu pushup was a part of a sequence of yoga exercises called the Suryanamaskar.
Seeing the HPU, it is basically what we called 'the Cat-Stretch' way back in the fifties, when I started to keep myself good. Wish I'd carried on! Lol!
Furey's exercises had no effect on me. After a month of his 'Magnificent Seven' abdom exercises, I didn't lose a centimeter from my belly! Even though I cut 'stodge' from my diet. So I didn't try the 'Royal Court'... The books were printed on cheap paper, with poor photographs. Totally uninspiring. Thanks for this. Seeing you perform these might help me do them right.
These are really similar to what we call Chinese press ups in kung-fu, only when we do them the elbows should almost come in contact with the ground, and they are done a little slower.

@supermario103
That all depends on the position of the arm.

Never heard of problems with straight arms.
Does that mean you can't stand on straight legs?

@4raChn0PhoBia You're right. You shouldn't over-extend the elbows. You'll notice the difference when you strain it too far.

Great looking exercises. It would be great if you'd describe which muscle group each targets.

It's not really isolation. More like a compound exercise with a focus on a specific muscle group.
Comersex 3 years ago
You can say that.
Bodyweightcultureman 3 years ago
Very nice partial isolations through pushups.
technicalli 3 years ago
You can call it partial muscle isolation, if you like.

If you are creative like that, the push ups never get boring.

Matt Furey charges hundreds of dollars for this. lol What a creep. (Furey's the creep, I mean, not the poster of this video.)

Very instructional video! I learned more from watching this video than from reading whole manuals. It really helps to see it done properly!
