  • Right there with you on the inches vs centimetres... for pretty much the same reason ;)

  • Okay, I'm not really big on makeup (I'm just big on your sense of humor). That being said, I have a question. Why is this called "de-potting"? Isn't it just....potting?

  • @bamababy4913 Thanks :) It would be just potting if it were called that... But it's called "de-tubing." :P

  • I tryed this and I LOVE it :)

  • haha a little more than 7 inches

  • I am in love!

  • does this work for any brand of lipstick?

  • omg you are awesome!! i just found your channel because i was on some random girls channel on how to depot nyx pencils and she gave u a shout out. lol!! i really like your organization videos. do more!! :) do you know how to depot shadows like wet n wild etc? i cant wait to go through your videos and watch all of them. im so glad i found you!!

  • oh my. this is the first video of yours i watched i have to say; i love your eyes. and your jacket is lovely!

  • Very entertaining!

  • your eyes are hypnotizing O.O

  • you are just wonderful and amazing :) im happy i came across you on here

  • One part I've run into while doing this is that the lipsticks are so hot after I melt them that the plastic containers fracture and crack, and then a month later I look and all my lipsticks are dried out :(

  • @breshiepoo there's the same amount.... So yea...

  • This was the first video I watched of you and I thought that you were completely crazy, but u kinda like it... ;P

  • You are so wonderful!

  • I stored my micas in stackable containers and they are messy. Now what??? What can I do for it to be less messy? Help me.

  • You are hilarious!

  • Who is the guy in the blue shirt at 10:00?

  • @sweetfuckingchrist that's jay. he just did the bf tag with me a couple weeks ago :)

  • Your eyes caught me of guard. Compliments!

  • sooooooo funny!!! ahaahhaah

  • ****You are delicious and delightful!..... Muah!****

  • I get itchy syphilis from watching your videos, and I kinda like it.

  • Eyeliner

  • YOU ARE EXCEPTIONALLY AMAZING! <3

  • Grrrrrrl I've been putting this off since you posted the video. I finally did it tonight. I had so much fun! I had some random lipsticks that I hardly ever put into my kit and I de-tubed them tonight and I can't wait to use them now! Everything was so quick. Tell me the truth tho grrrr when you used your fingers to smash it. you tried that shit on right? am I alone here? I'm lookin real fly in my Russian red and my pj's WERK!

  • @UnionBlues Haha! Glad you had fun - Of course you get to try it all on while you're working! When I did that MAC Pigment video series I took all these photos of Pigments and ended up with small amounts of about 15 different Pigments on a table - I took them all, mixed them together and pressed it into a pan. It's the COOLEST shade of silvery pewter grey with teal glitter you've EVER seen! If only I could figure out what the hell I used to mix it! LOL! :)

  • @dustyohunter ooooooooooo that sounds ah-mazing! I'd love to see! That color sounds divine!

  • Dear lord I love you :P

  • holy crap, you are wonderful. why am i just finding you now?!

  • @reeooww I don't know?! Was I lost??? :) xo

  • omggg he cracks me up lmaoooo. 17 meters... hahahahahahaha.

  • thanks for the tip about returning empty tubes to mac! i didn't know about it

  • This is how I store my pigment eye shadows :D Never thought about putting lipstick in there :D Goood idea.

  • y do we depot/ n u can microwave it for under a min

  • @BillionaireMandy are you asking why i depot these myself?

  • shit you are so funny i am glad i discovered you!!!

  • It's a chicken at MAC!:D

  • lmao "and the projectile diarrhea" hahahahahhaha. this made my day!

  • <3 you at 1:34

  • I just bought containers today (on sale, woooo!) and I'm excited to do this :) Thanks for the tips!

  • can you do this with lipglosses too? or would that get to messy?

  • @PineappleBeauty Glosses that come in a tube are usually so sticky and runny that they don't work very well when transfered to a pot or container like this. You can do it... Cause you can do whatever you want to do (I've done it before), but it usually just makes a mess :P

  • :O Will they fit in 10 gram jars? And after I get the lipstick in a pot could I put it on a flat iron to melt it if I put some foil underneath?

  • @Kinatakins lipsticks contain about 3g of product if i'm not mistaken, so yes, these would fit in 10g jars. you could flat iron them to melt the product if you'd like, should work just fine. IF you have a lipstick with glitter in it though, the glitter may sink to the bottom of the jar when you melt it. just keep that in mind :) thanks!

  • this is a really good idea, I have so much lipstick (although not as much as you) and it takes up so much room. and I can't see what they are without opening them all. I would never think to put the sticker on the bottom, that is really clever

  • it is such a pleasure to watch someone who is so smart and comfortable in front of the camera. just a pleasure!!!!

  • hi, I dont know if u noticed but this lighting makes your teeth look really yellow.

  • Hi Dustin can you back to MAC eyeshadow containiers that have been depotted

  • @cutesmile411 yes. as long as the plastic tray that holds the metal pan is still in there you can. the metal pan can be gone though :)

  • @dustyohunter Now you have to have the metal pan as well! B2M just changed their rules!

  • Hi!

Thank you so much fir uploading this video!

I just wonder, if you depot those lipsticks, does this effect in any way the lifetime of the lipsticks? So I mean, do they expire faster? Because I want to depot all my lipsticks as well, but I'm kind of afraid to "kill" them...

Thank you so much for being on youtube! You are awesome!

  • @Tamara85 I personally don't think so. As long as you don't leave the containers open they should be fine (I've never had a problem with that).

  • @dustyohunter Thank you so much Dustin. You are awesome! I went last week to New York City(I'm from Switzerland) and I discoverd Inglot cosmetics, thanks to you! The colours are so cool! Thanks for being on youtube!

  • WOW. You were so different when you did this video!! Awesome! ^_^

Btw, how did you come to be a makeup artist? I've really become fascinated with makeup in the past few months and would like to learn more, but that's kinda hard to do since I live in judgmental bastardville Tulsa. -_-

Ok, so this is a second question, but I'm curious to hear your experience. Have you had better luck in other parts of the country with acceptance?

  • @eeli1 those are questions i can't answer with a 500 character limit! ;) lol! shoot me a private message here or dustin@dustinhunter(dot)com and we can chat :)

  • Woah woah woah woah woah, I sell my limbs for black tar heroine!

  • Omg you need to have a TV show. Where do you put these at in your make-up storage?

  • @lmart75 Haha! Thank you! I just keep them in my kit. But you could store them anywhere really. I label the top lid of each stack (ie: Blue Reds, Orange Reds, Purples, etc.) so I can see what I'm reaching for in my kit :)

  • OMG your Fabolous!

  • You're my favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Do you think microwaving it would help melt it into the pot?

  • loools at the chicken

  • I never imagined "that" much lipstick was down in the tube. I thought there was just a tiny bit. Guess we waste alot by not detubing.

  • Seems kind of messy, plus takin git out shows me how little a tube really is and I realize I spend to much for lipstick, then I wear it and think how pretty I look and forget how much it cost. I buy them in pots anyways. I do like the stackable containers, I need some to depot my jumbo pencils.

  • haha 17 centimeters :)

  • That's very convenient since MAC lipsticks are just black and silver packaging so to see what lipstick it is you either have to open the tube or look at the name! If you don't only have one MAC lipstick like me, haha

  • is b2m still giving blushes?

  • @doriibabes i would call your local mac store to find out. the stores here in washington at least do a free lipstick, regular eyeshadow or lipglass. no more blushes. of course, i just do all by b2m-ing at macy's so i just get a free lipstick (seems odd that there would be that kind of variation from store to counter but there is).

  • You are the Mac Guyver, or should I say the Mac Guber (far more funny) of depotting. You rock!

  • Waaw.. How strange this video shows on my computer ! I just cleaned my traincase because the weight was becoming tooooo! much to travel, I had to cut back on te lipsticks ! This is a solution for me ! Tx very much . just maybe one question : why not melt it in pallet ? Does it take more space ( an weight , ha..) in a palet? again .. Thank you for the video !

  • @2622Valerie1 Just a personal choice. Palettes usually won't hold ALL of the lipstick in the tube, plus unless they are clear you can't see what you're looking for emediatly. And quite honestly, I just don't like lip palettes :P But like I said, that's just a personal choice :) You could easily do the same thing with a palette.

  • lol, u r funny

  • Projectile diarrhoea roflmao :0) xxxJoolsxxx

  • This is a REALLY cool idea, I dont think it would be the best for me because I like to throw them in my purse and reapply but this was a great video

  • omg haha the beginning LOL

  • Glad you made this vid never thought of doing this its a good idea as i hate picking up each lipstick to read the name, but i wish they could make more attractive containers, i have a ton of empty nars eye shadow duos so for now will be depotting my lipsticks into them as i love thier packaging..

  • Dusty, I love you. You're so clever. I always enjoy watching your videos because I learn so much. Keep up the good work! xx from Austria.

  • projectile diarrhea LOL you are too funny! your vids are awesome btw

  • i lol'd at 3:27!!

    was not expecting that.

    <3

  • This is brilliant its amazing how much more product there is in the tube that always gets wasted. I loved your intro i laughed my ass off showed my boyfriend he thinks you are a funny cool guy

  • HAHAH the intro <3

  • your amazing. you crack me up. just by the first 2 min into this you are by far my fav make-up youtuber

  • you're really awesome.

  • Love, Love, LOVE this. Going to the craft store tomorrow! Great vid!!

  • i wish i buy this, but the website doesnt show how much they are and i'm sure i cant find these cuz i dont live in the states :(

  • @Sid21 Any place where you would find art and craft supplies. Look for stores that carry containers for keeping beads, etc. You'll find these or something very similar.

  • Your videos are AWESOME!!!!!! I'm glad Josh talked about you.

  • can you back to maack the tube even though the color name is no longer on it?

  • @NREnger Yes. I've never had a problem with that :)

  • he's like the Alton Brown of makeup....lol i love it! nice video

  • The beginning of this video made me laugh harder than I have in like 3 months. :)

  • have you ever tried nuking the pots? Yeah, I'd worry that the lipstick would separate, but I'm also kinda curious...

  • @outinapout I haven't actually... My concern wouldn't be so much the lipstick seperating as much as the plastic heating up enough to warp (causing the threads where they screw onto each other to stop working properly). That and perhaps some kind of hot plastic smell getting into the lipstick.

I could always try it with a cheap lipstick and see what happens... If I do I'll let you know! (Or I could film myself blowing up the kitchen... Well... Hopefully not). Hehe.

  • @dustyohunter no, don't meth-out your kitchen! I see what you mean about the plastic warping. It's kind of a moot point anyway, because I think I'd be more apt to do metal pans, like you did in your paint stick vid. Of course, then I'd have to rearrange my kit....blah...

  • Bhahahahahahahaa i loooooooooooooooooooooooved every second of this video

    god awesome

  • This video was both entertaining and educational "it's a tube lipstick " is now my favorite song ...hmm wish it was in a ringtone form lol :)

  • love you soooo much...more please:-)

  • love. you. more. please.

  • Dusty, how do makeup artists keep their products sanitary from person to person? As far as applying eye and lip products how do you keep from double dipping? I just wonder.

  • @ytviewer88 as far as double dipping, you just don't do it. Ever. I use disposable plastic spatulas or the wand part of a Q-tip to take a bit out of the pan or scrape if off of the bullet, and then use my lip brush to remove the product from that and apply, That way I've created a "single serving" of lipstick that I can go back to if I need more.

  • thespnation informed his viewers about you, and i'm glad he did. That was definitely entertaining and educational. thanks!

  • Loved ur video intro :)

  • your are so funny- love watching you

  • do u have a procard? i believe u cant use it at Macy's right?

  • You have no idea how much I appreciate this vid....so helpful! (and I also appreciate chicken at MAC) :-)

  • lol...thanks for sharing how to save me from clutter disease...

  • Great video, you make me laugh, while still being uber professional.

  • I don't have nearly as many lipstick as you do to warrant de-tubing them...

  • Ah, Dusty. You are so pretty/talented/hilarious. I have that song playing on repeat in my head.

  • LOVE THE VIDEO!

  • This is hilarious. You're fun to watch!

  • you are just adorable ; - ;

  • Omg. This is sooo awesome. I have tons and TONS of tubes of lipsticks in my makeup kit that are taking up wayyy too much room. I'm gonna definitely try this method. Thanks a lot :)

  • 5 stars for chicken at MAC! :))

  • wonderful!!!!

  • 03:20 I love youuu!

  • My heart is kinda bleeding, when you do that to the lipstick! ;)

But it is a really good idea!

Perhaps, someday, when my heart is turn to stone, I'll try it myself. ;)

  • Nice, I need to depot some broken lipsticks but was using a stove method but this is way easier!

  • You are super funny!

  • It's a... chicken at MAC! You're funny man. I have to say, learning organization through your method has totally eliminated my projectile diarrhea!

  • Comment removed

  • Damn metric system!

  • Aw, Dusty, you're so pretty...I wish I was as pretty as you ;)

I've seen those containers at Dollarama (a dollar store dealio here in Canada) for about $1.25CAD....so sweet deal. I know where to look if I ever de-tube my lippies (although I'm kinda scared to :|)

  • You are just a bit too awesome.
