Hmmm, it's crazy. I thought the norm was dumping the WG to the atmosphere and that only a few ran it back to the DP. All my buddies and me dump it. Cool, I learned something new. And I was thinking of routing it back a few feet down the DP. Kinda getting tired of that "exhaust leak sound" when the WG opens. :P
@outofbodyexperience it is normal to have the external waste gate venting to atmosphere but some countrys require it to be plumbed in to be legal because it is leaking exhaust gases in front of the passenger cabin unless you route it to the back along side the exhaust
@RFucknBNZ Yeah, our country requires it too but instead of paying $9 for the yearly smog inspection, we pay $20 and another car that passes emissions gets smogged and we pass, lol. Gotta love corruption, hahaha.
A screamer pipe simply is a small piece of exhaust coming off the wastegate (in most cases external wastegate although it can be done with internal wastegates aswell) that is not plumbed back into the exhaust system but instead dumps/vents to air.
@madhavsaraswati the only thing i have to add to your comment is that it has been noted that running a screamer pipe has been shown to reduce boost spike/boost creep since the wastegate doesnt have to overcome pressure on the other side of the valve

@Tj1056 lol your completely right on that. on my car im running a pt67 and had mine plummed back into the exhaust at first and was getting boost spike/creep. i was then informed to run a screamer so i did and voila i had no more spike. my friend informed me that it was fixed beacuse of pressure. there is more pressure in the exhaust that a wastegate has to overcome to open. so making it a screamer reduces that back pressure for faster actuation. my boost cut is 14 and i run 13.5
@mtnwrx yea I never thought about the fact that most people run there wastegate pipe back into the exhaust... I see were you are getting the pressure... at first I was thinking atmosphere pressure and loled...
@mtnwrx That happens when it's routed too close to the exhast housing. It disrupts the clean flow of gases, causing turbulence and pressure increase. Routing it way downstream will not cause that problem. :)
@outofbodyexperience yeah that what i hear but it was just cheaper for me to dump off my 67mm and go with a hks dp. the price difference was around 150 more for a dp with a lower merger point.

I was driving it light on low boost, the video is pretty tame. More for sound not showing off crazy hp.

@madhavsaraswati
how do you do it on internally wastegated ones?
Rattlesnake2002uk 10 months ago
@Rattlesnake2002uk I believe it is split on the turbo elbow one pipe goes to your down pipe the other vents to the atmosphere

@usedgoldfish hmm, as i want to do this on my TD05H18G'd Golf lol. any further info on this mate? any is appreciated

@mtnwrx how does that work? but what really reduces boost spike/boost creep is to port your waste gate and or lower your spring tension...

When you say "screamer pipe" do you mean a custom dump tube (for sound) or just a regular external wastegate dump tube??
