Great voice but too bad she's dragging down the orchestra...even if opera isn't her usual genre, any singer should be able to keep a better tempo. Also to the poster, just out of curiosity (without any bitterness i promise!) what makes you say that this is a "very very strange aria"? I think that it is quite typical of his style...also, is Sarah really the "biggest selling soprano"?
I reckon she does a beautiful job and i really admire her for trying to bring opera to larger audiences :) I am being trained to sing opera and i really hear very, very few faults! She is a fab singer really :)
Got to admit I went in not expecting much, but what I found was a singer with the coloratura ability of an Anna Netrebko, power in the lower register reminiscent of a Sumi Jo, and the diction of a Joan Sutherland.
@dahoogal I know Netrebko is not a coloratura soprano. That's why I replied with "you've GOT to be kidding me" to whoever said she (Netrebko) has a marvelous coloratura voice.
Holy shit, my "musical butchering" sense never tingled this hard. Also, her pronounciation is beyond awful. I think it's very admirable of her to do the effort of performing these classical music pieces, but it's just not for her, she sounds so much more...natural, singing non-classical/pop music.
I'm not much a fan of Sarah, but I have a respect for her to perform this aria. As I could see some heavy dicussions here about her technique and style. Yes I agree that her techniquie, style and idction are not that good. BUT she is very potential for becoming perfect in this aria...and her techniqiue for coloratur is much better than I espected :-)))
Sarah is not suited to this at all.I saw her in Phantom in 1986 in London and there were many that felt, despite her assertions to the contrary, she was not the finaet interpreter of the role,it was a professional opera singer called Claire Moore who should have earned more recognition than she received. Miss Moore was not married to LLoyd Webber at the time however.Sarah ought to do what shr does best .and this is not it!
@daniel0Naruto...... Firstly, sales (No matter how high) don't make a singer good, a flawless vocal technique and phenomenal musicianship seperates an exceptional singer from a legendary one. Regnava nel silenzio is an Bel Canto aira which means it needs a Bel Canto trained soprano to really do it justice. However, I really like Sarah's redition all though she would never be cast to sing it in an opera house. With all that said, who really cares? It's all just preference in the end.
She doesn't have an operatic technique and she sings this dramatic aria like it is elevator music. Her Italian is terrible. I don't understand why she didn't get herself a decent diction coach. I don't comprehend the imperatives below to 'enjoy her'. Donizetti's music is complex, intricate and dramatically compelling - it requires a classically trained, experienced vocalist and not some Eurovision contestant. You wouldn't ask a grade 2 student to interpret Proust for you, would you?
Sales Don't mean quality. Sarah can be the Best selling, but she never did a real opera production, and listening to this, its easy to understand why.
Her voice fits her mainstream mixing of classical and Pop music, but Bel Canto roles, such as Lucia di Lammermor, she just can't reach an acceptable level (bad technique and interpretation) People who use to go to Opera or listen to it can understand what I'm saying
I have nothing against her, but she shouldn't touch these kind of masterpieces.
Beautiful song, the best voice ever, Sarah Brightman the biggest selling soprano of all times. So tell me why Callas, Tebaldi, or any other could win to her on sales?
all u people who talk bad about sarah's music, upload ur videos and let's see if you can sing better than her. She has talent, she might not be the best opera singer but she's well known for what she does and i think she's a decent singer who has not only popularized opera but also covered songs from every corner of the world and taken her music farther than anyone else.
perfect for the kind of singer she is but eliminated in the first row of any serious lyric competition... She doesn t respect the style, the moment where to breath, her italian is very bad, and also taking advantage of what she does best, against the musical style..
So it is a tv performance and not at all a lyric one....
So hav u heard a guy singing this aria ever before? becuz i can sing it, and practice with sarahs' version occasionally. its not thats hard but u hav to be able to hold ur breath for a while.. does anyone think this is not so common to be able to do so? bcuz there seems to b some countertenors around (as they call em i think) but im not sure i heard anyone singing this before. any opinions?
@secretfire89 so that means that you are going to open the season at La Scala as Lucia? Please let me know so i don't forget the rotten tomatoes and eggs so i have something to throw at you as every one boos at you.
screw you people Sarah B is FANTASTIC! for someone who's never credited herself as an opera singer this is absolutely fantastic and at the end of the day Sarah is the biggest Soprano of all time and that voice is pure Heaven...she could sing anything and it'll be amazing
Again, Sarah isn't a career professional opera singer. But she loves opera & has sung some arias. Her greatest talent is in Broadway and she has made a career with pop-and-opera/art song fusion. I like this version of Regnava nel silenzio and it's not all that bad. Her voice is dark and romantic. So stop all the criticizing and enjoy her. At least she's trying to make opera more mainstream!
i'm not her fan at all (i just don't listen to her regular genre) although, she is risking to be ridiculed by venturing in this kind of arias, i think this one is much better than one can expect. she is merely singing without leaving impression that she is being skinned alive, that is better than some other "proper" coloraturas on stage nowadays - say, i'd prefer Huang or Damrau, but would rather have Brightman than Dessay, or Gheorgiu, or Jo or Netrebko, or ...
to Drelnis:im not rly sure but i think i can sing it wit my full voice but also hav a falsetto range.still not sure how da 2 differ. it sounds loud when i sing an F so i supose that wud b full voice. im taking singin lessons at da moment but im only at da beginning of it all. a career is wat im planning on. :) my teacher says i hav a very broad vocal range. i dont want it to sound like im bragging. im not. just wanted to share my joy and passion for singin with someone here. wat'd u think?
Look, guys, this is a charity concert, some unwitting producer who had no idea about Sarah's voice had probably asked her to do it for benefit, (along with another Ah Non Giunge), she personally never ever had recorded this repertoire before, and she never will again, this amounts to about 1.4% of her entire recording career, this alone certainly does not judge Brightman as a singer, she has never put forth herself as coloratura, or even an opera singer. This is not "her" concert, it is charity
well, it sounds nice. but whats missing for me is clear coloratura and good trills which show a good technique. and that cadenza at the end is totally incorrectly placed...
im a guy and i can sing this from the soprano register.. :) pretty easily on most days. due to da fact that im apparently a sopranist and i can also sing the notes of the queen of the night aria as well as others. wat'd you guys think of that? thought id start a different topic to relieve u all of the stress this thread is causin on people regarding the bad/good version sung by Sarah B.. :)
Interesting. Always wondered how she would sound in a real opera. Funny how her voice (eventhough she´s obviously singing with microphone) is overshadowed in loud orchestral passages. Tells you what sort of immense voices those opera dames (Joan Sutherland, M. Callas, C. deutekom, etc) posses.
Great Performance!
Well, of course she's not an professional opera singer so no one ought to expect some beautiful classic soprano technique (Callas, Moffo, Sills, Sutherland) she's just Sarah Brightman. But it's a decidely good try and a lovely rendition to my ears anyways. Sarah has done much to crossover classical/opera and pop music so give her some credit!
@Astrofiammante how could saying that comparing her to callas is blasphemy get you a thumb down?????? its completely true she cannot compare to callas.
SIMPHONY

i love that ppl keep calling her an opera singer just cus she sings a few arias. she's a broadway singer. the confusion must have started with 'phantom of the OPERA'!
broadway relies on miking and prerecorded accompaniment. opera focuses on live performance of singer & accompaniment which is why no reputable opera house would have a cast sing 5 perfs/week ~ the norm for broadway. sarah never had the vocal weight of an opera singer ~ faking your way thru an aria is not the same thing.
haha she is NOT an opera singer, she needs to stop fronting. the fact that she even attempts to sing coloratura soprano repertoire is, beyond absurd, shes aweful
Come on, I own Lucia recordings of Scotto (THE best), Sutheland (3 recordings), Gruberova, Netrebko, Dessay, Jo, Sills, Callas, and I know the entire score.
I still find this recording nice to listen to, of course she couldn't sing it in a production, that's for sure, but seeing the amount of negative feedback about her voice here, I really see how extremely close minded some snobs can be.
Her Regnava was great, her cabaletta wasn't very special, but it's not as bad as to get mocked like this.
Does anyone else, besides me, wonder what Joan Sutherland or Maria Callas would think if they listened to this recording? Sarah should record "Spargi d'amaro Pianto" too. Now THAT would be a train wreck. I am kind of wondering how her E-flat at the end would sound (maybe, being her, she might even TRY to go for the F-major key).
Come on, folks, She should sing more stuff like this. For those who (like myself) know opera. It's good comical. I have laughed a lot. Most of the aria is just boring in her voice, but the final cadenzas are marvelous (it is like a drunk driver). It's almost like Florence Foster Jenkins
If she hadn't come from musicals and made a career off the classical-crossover genre, got rid of the smoothness of her voice, joined an opera house and actually screamed out loud people would have put her in the same line as 'some other soprano': A Voice to Remember.
Before the part 'Quando rapito in estasi' she's great, but afterwards it sounds like musical. Maybe it's just no longer in her whatyacallit tessitura?
Anche io grazie, ma al meno la mia pronuncia per cantare in italiano è molto meglio! Tanti auguri anche per Sarah, cantare Lucia non è cosa facile!! Brava per il coraggio!!
She is not a bad singer, but evidently is not in he list of best opera singers, simply because she doesn't enfoque her career in the direction of live opera. Only listen Mariella Devia, Sutherland, even Netrebko, and you will see the distintion. Brightman is a light singer, very popular and all, I respect her work but can't be compare with the real divas of stage and not only of recording studios and microphones.
She's not in the list of best opera singers because she isn't an opera singer...she's a pop singer! To my knowledge she has never sang a complete opera nor has she been under contract with any opera house. Any fool can sing an aria...Russell Watson, C.Church, and Paul Potts. This doesn't make them opera singers. Although talented in their own rights, they simply don't have the training.

i hope youre kidding, sarah brightman is a sorry excuse for an opera singer, MUCH less a coloratura, the end of this is a big hot mess, with no high D. netrebko is somewaht lacking in the coloratura chops for the repertoire that she sings, but worse than brightman? come on, give me a break, this is a joke.
For the last time she is NOT an opera singer! She is singing an aria because some charity benefit concert asked her to sing it!
What I meant was even though Sarah is certainly not a coloratura soprano, she has never sung a coloratura role, nevertheless any role whatsoever, on stage or in recording, in its entirety.
The deal with Sarah is JUST like Callas, you have to know her to like her, you must listen and appreciate it to a certain point then everything becomes beautiful.
Going through the comments, this might not be the right thing to say, but this is....not great. I think Ms. Brightman would do better to say within the Broadway Musical genre. She just doesn't have the voice for Lucia. Sorry....
My 2cents piece of advice: NEVER EVER TRY to sing OPERA AGAIN, It's an insult to the opera singers, composers (who spin in their graves) and musicians.
lol it's quite exciting to see that everyone who defends Sarah and likes her interpretation has Sarah, Groban, Nightwish in their YouTube favorites and those who despise Sarah and this performance has Callas. (Not Joan, cause no one can like Joan and be horrible.)
It seems that half the opera aficionados here think her performance is fine, while the other half maligns it. I think the reason for this is that art or music is entirely subjective. If it hits an aesthetic/emotional nerve in you, I suppose issues of technique become secondary. Think of Picasso or Jackson Pollock: many people found/find their artistic abilities questionable, yet others may be touched or inspired by their work. I think the same is true for music - it's purely subjective.
!Excuse me;people! Do you think that just any "pop" singer or musical singer could pull off what she does in this presentation? Obviously most of you are not singers at all or you would understand the difficulty of this piece. She is obviously showing her vocal prowess& mastery of many styles. The Legato runs she does are immaculate. She has studied classical voice all of her career and has "morphed" through a series of changes, if you see all of her videos & interviews you would know that.cont.
Dahoogal, you're wrong!!! This is one of the most beautiful arias, sung by a very very strange voice, person. she's not an opera singer!! she pretends to be one! she never sang opera on stage.
She has, on numerous occasions said that she is NOT an opera singer, and doesn't intend to be one. She just sings what she wants, because that's how she wants to be. Varied. From Puccini to Procol Harum.
She sings an opera aria, so she pretends to be an opera singer!!! it's not that easy in opera. you can't sing what you want. a soprano whith a light voice can't sing Wagner!
And it's NOT an "absolutely beautiful rendition"!! It's terrible.
So when Kiri te Kanawa sings a Pop song to widen her diversity she "pretends to be an Opera singer"? She doesn't care about what people think. She likes the song, she does her best to sing it. Whether people like it or not. And obviously, some people actually like it. People have differing opinions. Just because my opinion is different from yours doesn't mean I'm wrong. And just because you think it's terrible doesn't mean it's really terrible or terrible for everyone else. Logic.
kiri te kanawa is an opera singer, because she has the technique to sing operas on stage. B. doesn't. And i think that in classical music and opera you have to sing or play on the highest level. She doesn't. someone who learned violin as a child can't play the Mendelssohn concerto in public just because he wants to, or he has the money. Logic.
Okay wait, I typoed the first sentence. It was supposed to be "pretends to be a Pop singer".
So that takes care of the first sentence. And no, it's all personal opinion. There are many who aren't opera purists, but find beauty in them, and thus find beauty in Brightman's voice. And yes, you're right. And sorry, but how the world works is that the certain person you mentioned actually can, because you know, freedom of expression. And equally, some will find beauty in it too.
You are right... she is not an opera singer... She should sing pop but not Opera!!!! I don't know why she and Bocelli try to sing things that they can not sing...
In this she lack in esxpression, she is just horrible!!!!!
You all are crazy. She sings with a very trained classical technique here. Obviously her stylistic approach and interpretation are very odd. She sings on her breath (you have to in an aria like this or your voice won't spin and you'll pass out with a larynx that is in your foreheard!) and she places her voice pretty darn well. She isn't an "opera singer" but she is definitely very trained. I am not a fan, but I wouldn't say that she is faking anything.
right, u guys...she doesent try to prove anything...she has a splendid voice...like cristal...and she can sing whatever she wants...dispite ure fake oppinions...
this was quite good... but i don't like her coloratura...and she lacks in agility...and also...i'm sure that she sang this with a mic because i know that she also lacks in volume, not being an opera singer(she cannot cover the orchestra...)
Exactly. I remember hearing in a documentary that they had to keep turning up her microphone and turning Michael Crawford's down during "Phantom." She's always had a very light, rather weak voice.
Holy crap. When I saw this video I laughed assuming that I would be able to trash it. I'm shocked. This is actually good. Of course, there are better versions by better artists...BUT, this is a freaking hard aria and I'm really impressed that the only strained bits were the high notes at the end. New respect for SB. I mean, my ears didn't bleed at all.
I think when Sarah Brightman performs these pieces it is a form of tribute. I listened to an interview where she stated that she admired Joan Sutherland, and as the old adage goes, "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery." Perhaps she's hoping that, by making these pieces more accessible, people can discover singers such as these; I think she performs the function that many posters want, since I've read of many opera fans who have started with Brightman as a gateway to legitimate opera.
And a final thought: I'm sure some of SB's fans actually do not care for classical music but rather the sound she creates, and her work is as far as they wish to go in the classical genre. However, from listening to her interviews, I do believe that she picks pieces that articulate her personal vision for an album; her albums run the full gamut of musical genres, ranging from classic rock to opera. They serve to indicate the evolutionary relationship of popular music throughout the centuries.
Well, she has a pretty voice, and she gave it a good try. She might want to work on that 'scooping' habit and try to gain some agility and accuracy in her coloratura in case she decides to venture outside her comfort zone again. People may want to listen to Natalie Dessay for comparison--she has a similarly light tone but more secure technique.
Ehm sorry but she isn`t a "pop" singer :) Just because she sings some pop songs doesn`t have to say that she is a pop singer. She is a classical trained singer, a soprano (and do not understand me wrong, i know that she`s NOT an opera singer) so please don`t say shes a pop singer, because when you hear that, everyone thinks of Britney or Madonna etc. and Sarah Brightman is MUCH better than any pop singer!! <3 In my opinion at least xD btw. I love this Aria by her!! :D Maybe (continous)
she doesn`t hit all the notes perfectly or makes other mistakes, but I Like her version!! <3 And because of the fact that she isn`t an opera singer it is clear that she can`t do it perfectly, so please don`t blame her like that!! :( She has a beautiful voice, a great charisma and her music is also great!! And she really doesn`t pretend to be an opera singer, she just sings the songs she likes or she thinks they match the theme of her albums. What is bad about that?? I mean the people who don`t
like her singing opera pieces or other classical stuff, can listen to the singers they like!! :D But please don`t go to the ones you don`t like and insult them, because there are many people who love her and her music and her voice touches them, what is wrong about that?? In the End you can`t say someone is good or bad because it is always just about the taste of music that everyone has, there isn`t a general statement about anything that every human being agrees on :) So please don`t give
me a hundred thumbs down and say that she is this or that and just let me, and her, be!! :) I like her version and think its great, so please let me my opinion :)
I wish all of you really the Best and hope that you someday understand that there hasn`t to be so much hate about such a unimportant thing, like who is the Best, when you think of all the cruel and terrible things out there in the world!!
Brightman has only done maybe a year and half of this awful opera crap over her 30 year singin career.....thank god, she decided to not do this crap, as she said, "it to restricted!" Although she can easy do crap, but why do when it takes aways from a person musical freedom!! AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION, BRIGHTMAN DOES HAVE OPEAR TRAINING! You ought to check the facts before you write crap like this!!!
Yeah im sorry im sure that the most people who watch this like Sarah Brightman, but she dosn't have any training to sing opera...that is something that u just can't fake, when a person have vocal training u hear that training in the way that person sings!she have a nice voice ,charisma and is good to sell records...but she dosn't have that kind of vocal training!just listen to any operatic soprano singing this aria
What is wrong with you? Don't answer that, cause I just care, faking? Maybe YOU are the one who needs training to see, hear, and understand, PERIOD!!! We shall leave at your "sorry" that YOU just don't understand! Maybe with time you might wise up? I doubt it!!!
I don't want to waiste my time with you,im already training as an opera singer.I don't think i could care less about what u that r not a singer can say about me.
I'm a jazz singer with years of training. My voice at times has been described as operatic-sounding, but I'm not gonna bust out "Nessun Dorma" anytime soon and think I can do it justice. It's not about classically trained artists being better or more talented than other singers it's just a whole different world. I wouldn't want to hear Joan Sutherland singing "God Bless the Child" by Billie Holiday because her training and voice don't suit it, she'd sound ridiculous. So I agree with you

Hey...you have your opinion, and I have my opinion...and I say again: "OPERA IS CRAP!!!!!!!" This form of expression is very restrictive!!! And for this reason, I say again...OPERA IS CRAP, PERIOD!!!! jUST BECASUE YOU ENJOY RESTRICTIONS, DON'T YOU TELL ME WHAT MY OPINION IS!!!!
"Opinions" are like spit, everybody's got one. Miost of them are ignorant garbage. This form of expression isn't restricted at all. You are IGNORANT, period. I enjoy great art and Miss Brightman isn't a great artist. Oh, and stop yelling, you sound like a three year old having a tantrum.
TALK ABOUT STUPID!!!! WHY DON'T YOU LEARN TO SPELL YA FUCKIN MORAN??? "Miost" IS SPELLED "MOST" GET BACK UNDER A ROCK AND GO JERK YOURSELF OFF AND LEAVE THE REST OF WORLD FOR THOSE WHO CAN LEAST KNOW HOW TO SPELL!!!

perfect for the kind of singer she is but eliminated in the first row of any serious lyric competition... She doesn t respect the style, the moment where to breath, her italian is very bad, and also taking advantage of what she does best, against the musical style..
So it is a tv performance and not at all a lyric one....

Interesting. Always wondered how she would sound in a real opera. Funny how her voice (eventhough she´s obviously singing with microphone) is overshadowed in loud orchestral passages. Tells you what sort of immense voices those opera dames (Joan Sutherland, M. Callas, C. deutekom, etc) posses.

i love that ppl keep calling her an opera singer just cus she sings a few arias. she's a broadway singer. the confusion must have started with 'phantom of the OPERA'!
broadway relies on miking and prerecorded accompaniment. opera focuses on live performance of singer & accompaniment which is why no reputable opera house would have a cast sing 5 perfs/week ~ the norm for broadway. sarah never had the vocal weight of an opera singer ~ faking your way thru an aria is not the same thing.

ChrisStockslager 2 years ago
Come on, folks, She should sing more stuff like this. For those who (like myself) know opera. It's good comical. I have laughed a lot. Most of the aria is just boring in her voice, but the final cadenzas are marvelous (it is like a drunk driver). It's almost like Florence Foster Jenkins

cantelini 2 years ago
If she hadn't come from musicals and made a career off the classical-crossover genre, got rid of the smoothness of her voice, joined an opera house and actually screamed out loud people would have put her in the same line as 'some other soprano': A Voice to Remember.
Before the part 'Quando rapito in estasi' she's great, but afterwards it sounds like musical. Maybe it's just no longer in her whatyacallit tessitura?

She is not a bad singer, but evidently is not in he list of best opera singers, simply because she doesn't enfoque her career in the direction of live opera. Only listen Mariella Devia, Sutherland, even Netrebko, and you will see the distintion. Brightman is a light singer, very popular and all, I respect her work but can't be compare with the real divas of stage and not only of recording studios and microphones.
khothye 2 years ago 5
She's not in the list of best opera singers because she isn't an opera singer...she's a pop singer! To my knowledge she has never sang a complete opera nor has she been under contract with any opera house. Any fool can sing an aria...Russell Watson, C.Church, and Paul Potts. This doesn't make them opera singers. Although talented in their own rights, they simply don't have the training.

i hope youre kidding, sarah brightman is a sorry excuse for an opera singer, MUCH less a coloratura, the end of this is a big hot mess, with no high D. netrebko is somewaht lacking in the coloratura chops for the repertoire that she sings, but worse than brightman? come on, give me a break, this is a joke.
skitzo429 2 years ago
For the last time she is NOT an opera singer! She is singing an aria because some charity benefit concert asked her to sing it!
What I meant was even though Sarah is certainly not a coloratura soprano, she has never sung a coloratura role, nevertheless any role whatsoever, on stage or in recording, in its entirety.
The deal with Sarah is JUST like Callas, you have to know her to like her, you must listen and appreciate it to a certain point then everything becomes beautiful.

Dahoogal, you're wrong!!! This is one of the most beautiful arias, sung by a very very strange voice, person. she's not an opera singer!! she pretends to be one! she never sang opera on stage.
zafireh 2 years ago
She doesn't pretend to be one.
She has, on numerous occasions said that she is NOT an opera singer, and doesn't intend to be one. She just sings what she wants, because that's how she wants to be. Varied. From Puccini to Procol Harum.
CoolMapleStore 2 years ago
She sings an opera aria, so she pretends to be an opera singer!!! it's not that easy in opera. you can't sing what you want. a soprano whith a light voice can't sing Wagner!
And it's NOT an "absolutely beautiful rendition"!! It's terrible.
zafireh 2 years ago
So when Kiri te Kanawa sings a Pop song to widen her diversity she "pretends to be an Opera singer"? She doesn't care about what people think. She likes the song, she does her best to sing it. Whether people like it or not. And obviously, some people actually like it. People have differing opinions. Just because my opinion is different from yours doesn't mean I'm wrong. And just because you think it's terrible doesn't mean it's really terrible or terrible for everyone else. Logic.
CoolMapleStore 2 years ago
kiri te kanawa is an opera singer, because she has the technique to sing operas on stage. B. doesn't. And i think that in classical music and opera you have to sing or play on the highest level. She doesn't. someone who learned violin as a child can't play the Mendelssohn concerto in public just because he wants to, or he has the money. Logic.
zafireh 2 years ago
Okay wait, I typoed the first sentence. It was supposed to be "pretends to be a Pop singer".
So that takes care of the first sentence. And no, it's all personal opinion. There are many who aren't opera purists, but find beauty in them, and thus find beauty in Brightman's voice. And yes, you're right. And sorry, but how the world works is that the certain person you mentioned actually can, because you know, freedom of expression. And equally, some will find beauty in it too.
CoolMapleStore 2 years ago
You are right... she is not an opera singer... She should sing pop but not Opera!!!! I don't know why she and Bocelli try to sing things that they can not sing...
In this she lack in esxpression, she is just horrible!!!!!
maggeo78 2 years ago
You all are crazy. She sings with a very trained classical technique here. Obviously her stylistic approach and interpretation are very odd. She sings on her breath (you have to in an aria like this or your voice won't spin and you'll pass out with a larynx that is in your foreheard!) and she places her voice pretty darn well. She isn't an "opera singer" but she is definitely very trained. I am not a fan, but I wouldn't say that she is faking anything.
mrportobello 2 years ago 7
please....... don't come with your thechnical things. It's terrible!you can't compare this with a version of a real opera singer!!
zafireh 2 years ago
She sings what she likes, and does what she likes.
She sings this song because she likes it, and became a Crossover artist because she didn't want to be solely a Pop, Musical or Opera singer.
Simple as that.
And on that note, absolutely beautiful rendition.

RachelJonasKing88 3 years ago
I think when Sarah Brightman performs these pieces it is a form of tribute. I listened to an interview where she stated that she admired Joan Sutherland, and as the old adage goes, "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery." Perhaps she's hoping that, by making these pieces more accessible, people can discover singers such as these; I think she performs the function that many posters want, since I've read of many opera fans who have started with Brightman as a gateway to legitimate opera.
mlec91283 3 years ago 3
