While I do agree that more games need actual challenge, I strongly disagree with your views on gaming as ill-equipped the tell a good story. While most games do have either non-existent or horrendous stories, gaming likely the best medium for telling stories, wouldn't you like to really get something out of you experience when your done?
i use to enjoy a good game high skilled style. 1v1 Q3A,Sc,wc2& 3 even in diablo 2, 5v5 Cs, Dod. 2v2 JKA, AOE. At the release of COD MW i joined 1 game in a internet cafe on someones request because it was his birthday and he had played it before, " and the game was so awesome n bla bla bla bla." first time played... finished top of the list with at least quadruple the score of anyone else, since then... i tried a few times some multiplayer games and i can only see it gets worse :(

The problem with emulating a very successful person like Yahtzee is that you have a very poor chance of being as good. While you have some talent for this kind of thing you don't live up to the ZP standard and it puts your work in dimmer light than it might have been if presented in an original format.
Except the storyline thing, I'm a sucker for good stories. Gameplay is amazing and all, but a great story with a good gameplay trumps a meh story with an amazing gameplay. That makes it fun for me:P. I don't think story in a game is a bad thing. My favourite game of all time is Deus Ex: Human Revolution. But I love the aesthetics and the game play of it fused with a good story. :) It is not only a work of art, but an amazing video game

@lits2722 you are misunderstanding my comment. I'm basically saying that graphics are a part of the gameplay. I agree we should spend more time on the gameplay(without graphics), but even hardcore gamers don't like shitty graphics. A game needs both.
I miss the days when video games weren't interactive movies, and actually took more than 8 hours to beat. Don't get me wrong, there are still great games coming out, but very few. Dead Space for instance took me around 8 hours to beat and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
But It didn't give me the same satisfaction as say... when I beat Donkey Kong 64 which took me 60+ hours. Or getting all the medals on expert in Star Fox 64.
I used to totally agree with these statements, but not any more... As a game programmer, graphics programming is just really fun and challenging thing do compared to doing just game logic. Last year, I made a game that had awesome gameplay but bad graphics - nobody liked it! If I looked for an artist for that game to make some good looking art, people would just love it way more... Even Hardcore gamers. Graphics help make or break the game. But graphics without gameplay is indeed no game...

I disagree with your opinion on the presence of a compelling story to an extent. If a game's story is truly amazing in my eyes, it's going to be better. Although if the gameplay is utter shit, it's not going to be a great game.
A good example for me would be Bioshock. The story was good, gameplay was pretty great, until I beat it. After that it just felt so stale I couldn't play it for more than 30 minutes without wanting to rip out my eyes out of boredom.

I like stories in games. the best part about it is you play the role as the protagonist and have control over what transpires. in case your not aware, you cant do that in books or movies. - I agree that gameplay should be what makes a game, and that most people do not get that.
- It is correct that some games are absorbing too many aspects from books and movies.
- Not much else.

A parody's goal isn't to steal and twist as much as possible, it's supposed to take the key elements of something and turn it around to create a funny effect (great example being Austin Powers). At the release of COD MW i joined 1 game in a internet cafe on someones request because it was his birthday and he had played it before, " and the game was so awesome n bla bla bla bla." first time played... finished top of the list with at least quadruple the score of anyone else, since then... i tried a few times some multiplayer games and i can only see it gets worse :(

When this video was made, yahtzee had barley been heard of and had only just been signed by 'The Escapist'. At this point, Pure Pwnage were recording a commissioned show for a major TV network, the fact that they chose Yahtee as a piece of popular/internet cult to feature in thier show is nothing but truly complimentary. If you notice the video goes at a polar extreme to Yahtzee (who doesn't play multiplayer) and is using the same style from the perspective of not playing single player.

I miss the days when video games weren't interactive movies, and actually took more than 8 hours to beat. Don't get me wrong, there are still great games coming out, but very few. Dead Space for instance took me around 8 hours to beat and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
But It didn't give me the same satisfaction as say... when I beat Donkey Kong 64 which took me 60+ hours. Or getting all the medals on expert in Star Fox 64.

I used to totally agree with these statements, but not any more... As a game programmer, graphics programming is just really fun and challenging thing do compared to doing just game logic. Last year, I made a game that had awesome gameplay but bad graphics - nobody liked it! If I looked for an artist for that game to make some good looking art, people would just love it way more... Even Hardcore gamers. Graphics help make or break the game. But graphics without gameplay is indeed no game...

I disagree with your opinion on the presence of a compelling story to an extent. If a game's story is truly amazing in my eyes, it's going to be better. Although if the gameplay is utter shit, it's not going to be a great game.
A good example for me would be Bioshock. The story was good, gameplay was pretty great, until I beat it. After that it just felt so stale I couldn't play it for more than 30 minutes without wanting to rip out my eyes out of boredom.

I like stories in games. the best part about it is you play the role as the protagonist and have control over what transpires. in case your not aware, you cant do that in books or movies.
