Stop watching this shit if you don't want to know of it! What the fuck is your problem making accusations of other people's findings when YOU'RE the one who's here! No one is MAKING YOU listen to this!
That's so wierd. I have the mp3 and I'm playing it backwards, but I don't hear what you're hearing. I think my boyfriend has the record. I really want to hear this for myself.
It refers to lennon's death. even the sgt peppers cover, Revolver, abbey road, rubber soul, and revolution 9, im the walrus was connected to his death. I read a book about the clues. The book said that John made pact with the devil for 20 years. It's convincing. He sold his soul to the devil. It's John not Paul.
Just playing it forward is creepy enough. When I heard this in my younger years, I was so creeped out by this song, and the way it says, "number nine" over and over plus the haunting music gives me chills.
@melonheadzed No melon head it's not just "number 9 played backwards". You try to record those words into a tape recorder and then play it backwards and you get pure gibberish.(I tried it myself)...It's the exact tone of Johns' voice when he says "Number 9...Number 9...Number 9..." that makes audible the words "Turn me on Dead Man...Turn me on Dead Man..." and THAT is what's so outrageous about it.
40 seconds is usually how long I can tolerate this track anyway - and I am a massive Beatles fan. Fascinating stuff though, great to finally hear this bit backwards (been much too lazy to even bother doing this myself!!!)
I've heard there's hidden messages in these, apparently you're supposed to hear "turn me on dead man" here, before I viewed the comments though I heard "I'm John Lennon", now that "turn me on dead man" is out there I can hear it too. I think you can hear pretty much whatever you want if you play records backwards.
Also WHY they paul is dead myth is really so flimsy to me. I hear fifty thousand different stories every day about it. First I was told that it happened very early in their careers so they could hide it more. then I heard it was in 66 which makes no sense because they have "clues" dating back to Help! and before which would be 65 and before. Also even though it is always a car crash, he supposedly burnt his face broke every limb and was beheaded
You could imagine some greasy hippies lying around rolling joints and listening to this song, saying 'the music of the future, man...' *takes another puff*
thats what i used to do all day when i was 8. i would go to CSUN and go to the library and take a bunch of records and play them backwards. i was one audio freak
I wonder if the backmasking on Revolution 9 was intentional. I mean, how many EMI examination tapes did they hav to go through, playing them all backwards, till they found someone saying something that, played backwards, sounds like "turn me on dead man", or at least till they found something that sounded anything at all like something to do with a dead person, and at the same time, sounding completely inconspicuous when played forward? It wouldve taken a lot of effort Lol. Think about it.
Is that piano passage really "as it already sounded"? because the technique sounds quite unusual for any kind of piano style, and difficult to play. to me it just sounds like ... a piano passage backwards.
@naisreni Actually, I have to clarify that ... if you check out from 0:10 to 0:19, that is the piano part that when the LP is played backwards then sounds normal -- not the very beginning piano where "number nine ... number nine..." is being recited.
It wasn't intended by anyone, the "number nine" bit was taken from a cassette John found in the library, some kind of study programme cassette or something. all that stuff was NOT on purpose. plus, I don't even think it sounds like it too much...
my science teacher was talking about this today and i wanted to hear it and he told us what he said and now i dont remember what he said and i cant understand this!
i have known about the backwards music in a flanger, piano, and this for years but no books mention it all...also what type of turntable is that? also play backwards the end of BUNGALOW BILL before WHILE MY GUITAR...also play backwards the mumbling before 'blackbird' and you will hear PAUL IS DEAD MAN MISS HIM
You were using a spherical stylus right? That's the ONLY stylus you should use for trying to play any record backward, and please tell me that was a re-press of some kind and not a fine original copy.
Pretty freaky to hear. I'd been wondering how that really sounded.
Not sure if stylus spherical or not, it is what came with the Stanton turntable ... and no this not a re-press but indeed an original Apple LP from 1968, complete with the Capitol Records reference at the bottom of the label. I only played this 40-second bit backwards once to do this clip and never before or since - I did want to feature the original pressing to give it some degree of authenticity.
Hmm...judging by the tonearm being fully straight, including the headshell, the stylus probably was spherical. An elliptical or line-contact stylus would have caused damage to the grooves when used with that kind arm since they wouldn't be aligned in the grooves well at all at any point on the record with that style of tonearm.
I did a bit of research about styluses after you posted your comment yesterday, I think it is spherical ... just thinking about the geometry aspect, a sphere is a ball and be that the case I would figure the groove of the vinyl running under the needle in either direction wouldn't make a difference to the record - any other shape then I can see the damage potentially caused by running the vinyl backwards - does this make sense?
Yes, very much. Elliptical and Micro-Ridge styli are supposed ride perpendicular to the the grooves as much as possible which is why for a turntable set up for dedicated hi-fi playback, S-shaped tonearm is mostly used and lots of time is spent on cartridge alignment and geometry, all to get the finer styli used for hi-fi playing to ride as level and perpendicular to the grooves as possible, no matter which song is being played on albums.
When I say perpendicular I mean they're supposed to ride in the grooves as close to perpendicular to the grooves as can be maintained over the entire tracking arc of the cartridge during playback.
You mean ORIGINAL, FIRST PRESSING vinyl "White Album." Ha ha ha. You might know this already, or you might not, but the first pressing Apple labels have that text you see at the bottom underneath the apple half.
Hey have you heard the almost 11 minute "Revolution 1" that's posted here on You Tube? It's Take 20, basically Take 18 that was recorded May 30, 1968 with overdubs (including Paul and George doing their high register "Ma-ma, da-da, ma-ma, da-da" backup vocals). You'll hear a lot of John's vocal track that was eventually shaved off to form a chunk of "Revolution 9."
I recently read somewhere this message was not referring to Paul McCartney, but to Brian Epstein (their manager), who died before this album was recorded.
Ahh..DJ tables. They always come in handy, don't they?
Thanks dude for taking the time to dispell any misconceptions about these subliminal messages. Studio engineers went absolutely berserk with reel-to-reel tape back in the late '60s & '70s. The possibilities were endless.
It is so true kokakolakidd! Some people just don't WANT to understand that when you had to deal with tape machines, you were FORCED to create. The question always was, "I want something to sound like this, now how do we go about getting it to sound that way?" People love digital because it's quick and easy but the use of analog equipment in the '60s and '70s fueled creativity....and it sounded so good.
I never thought any of the PID clues were deliberate - that they were all just crazed fans interpreting meaning out of things like the recurring open palm over Paul's head (Sgt Pepper's, and Y Submarine covers) and all the Abbey Road clues - that all of it could just be one very big coincidence. However if the thing about black carnations is true, their scarcity, and for MMT they so happened to stumble upon one and so happens it was Paul who wore it) then I start to think they planned this.
I always wonder how this is going to be remembered if Paul ends up being the last surviving living member of the group. Then again, he probably already is since Ringo had declared himself no longer a Beatle.
Whether Paul or Ringo becomes the last Beatle standing, I think the whole "Paul is dead" rumor with all the clues from the albums will be remembered as one of the greatest hoaxes ever - it is still being discussed today (exhibit A, right here). I don't suppose either Paul or Ringo would ever come forth and admit to the fans that the Beatles did this deliberately, even some of the clues - there are so many clues for the PID hoax to be totally coincidental .. who knows
