The tuna is from the fact the surrounding ocean water and Macross Island were transported to space in the fold, so the fish came along with the water too, just to clear that up, it seems confusing and random but actually it makes sense if you remember what happened in the episode "Space Fold"

I've seen the subtitled version and in that Minmay suggests to Rick that rather then starve to death and be eaten by the mice that they go out in the airlock, whoa! Never heard that in the English version, then again they were marketing it to a younger crowd. Pretty good writing though.

I remember this came out not to long after people started to get PC's. Before the internet and when a giga byte of memory was just a dream. In fact some of the greatest computer minds of the day could not conceive of a reason for a home computer to have more than 64k of memory. That was the time of robo tech. Back when a car phone was the size of a cinder block. Man have we come a long way in 25 to 30 years. Back then I think the target age for anime (still called cartoons) was 10 to 15 years.

Remember, the tuna fish is floating in space along with the eveything else because some of the surrounding ocean water was transported into space during the space fold.

Even though Rick's homemade spacesuit is unrealistic, this show IS smart enough to show him carrying 2 heavy weights that he throws in the opposite direction that he wants to move. That's the only way to create thrust in the vacuum of space, and this is the only series that I've seen that has that kind of attention to detail

@mafiaeae Actually no you wouldn't freeze to death as space is a vacuum so only way to lose heat is radiate away from you which takes a while. You'd die from lack of oxygen after you passed out from the sudden pressure drop. Rick was in and out just like you'd expect for a survivable trip outside with no spacesuit.

Unless the tuna was shot there's to reason for it be shredded. Maybe bruised up from debris hitting it but after a day or two it be frozen which helps protect it.
