@djmaleda Umm... I guess that's because he was pretty young when he immigrated and he didn't live in a Chinese community. I've known Japanese exchange students at my school who improve their English more than the Chinese because there are few of them. They have to speak English and the Chinese only hang out with the Chinese and never learn.

That was deep.. I know so many ppl who take different styles of martial arts, and they constantly argue over which style is the best. That is not the point of martial arts! It was uploaded by one of his students. Mike's the heavier guy in the camo pants. He doesn't even make his living doing this and he's better than any Krav Maga instructor I've ever seen.

@25536lennix If you put him in the US today, he would be behind the curve. There are more schools of every style (mostly because of Lee) and cross training is a matter of course. The best modern day "MMA" Lee would probably be taking a young Jun Fan Lee and putting him in our climate. He probably wouldn't compete, since he didn't like that, but then again he would never be the Bruce people knew if he were around today.
He started mixing styles, so idk what today would be w/o him.

He was a great philosopher and actor, but he was not a fighter. Some of his fans seem to get confused and think he is the toughest man ever. He is, in my mind, the greatest martial artist ever. That doesn't mean he could kick anyone's ass, though.

Joe Lewis, one of the father's of American kickboxing, trained with Lee and knew his limitations as a fighter, like I do, while acknowledging his greatness as a martial artist.
Bruce Lee was indeed a philosopher. He thought and articulated the importance of cross-training and opening the mind to formless learning. That thinking started what we have today in MMA.

@Rookerfy In films like Enter the Dragon Bruce Lee predicted how MMA was going to be fought in the future, when at the beginning of the movie he fights Sammo Hung they are wearing MMA clothes and gloves, and Bruce Lee makes an exhibition of MMA moves and locks. Another example is in Game of Death when Bruce Lee fights Kareem Abdul Jabbar, he uses pure MMA Jiu-Jitsu ground fighting.

@25536lennix If you put him in the US today, he would be behind the curve. There are more schools of every style (mostly because of Lee) and cross training is a matter of course. The best modern day "MMA" Lee would probably be taking a young Jun Fan Lee and putting him in our climate. He probably wouldn't compete, since he didn't like that, but then again he would never be the Bruce people knew if he were around today.
He started mixing styles, so idk what today would be w/o him.

Google Bruce lee divine wind = An interview with a man who really trained with and knew Bruce Lee. Now quit all this "bruce would go to the ring & beat the shit out of 5 of the best mma fighters all at once..." or "He was unbeatable" nonsense. It's just as insulting to say someone is a martial arts god that nobody can beat as it is to say he is a hack and just an actor. MMA has almost become it's own style based around rule's and regulations, it is also a sport which Bruce lee specified is different to combat fighting such as on the street. What Bruce lee was talking about was individualizing an art to one's character if you like. Being open to every art and taking from it what suit's you and your ability. Krav Maga and Jujitsu's philosophy for example cannot be expressed in a sport such as UFC as they were not designed for such

Bruce Lee was the best fighter there was, you can use the term martial arts but he was a fighter. His moves didn't look cool because thats not what fighting is. True fighting is ugly and there is no referee to stop it so you have to be ready to risk your life.

@vasgeorge No "real fighting" has rules. MMA is the sport of fighting, and apart from a amateur boxing tournament in Taiwan, Bruce Lee never really fought anyone. He was a great philosopher and actor, but he was not a fighter. Some of his fans seem to get confused and think he is the toughest man ever. He is, in my mind, the greatest martial artist ever. That doesn't mean he could kick anyone's ass, though.

@vasgeorge This is the typical response I expect from a Bruce Lee worshipper. No real fights "in the street" were ever documented. Joe Lewis, one of the father's of American kickboxing, trained with Lee and knew his limitations as a fighter, like I do, while acknowledging his greatness as a martial artist.
Bruce Lee was indeed a philosopher. He thought and articulated the importance of cross-training and opening the mind to formless learning. That thinking started what we have today in MMA.
