  • Negro is black in Portuguese and Spanish. It was not meant to be malicious. It is like Blanco which means white.

  • I say this because my father is African from Togo, West Africa and my mom is from Trinidad.

  • I don't like the word black either. I am not African-American. I am Belgian of African and Caribbean origin, happen to live in America. I represent all ethnicities, including the first nations.

  • Negro is almost like nigger

  • "negro" is outdated

  • Man I Only Hope That For The Next Census They don't Come Up with A New Box That Says Brownies X Here. Cause I'm Latino And I Look Brown but When I Go To pee I Know For Sure I'm Black ;)!!!!!!!!

  • Yo Batatunde - Shi'Takke, ConTiki, Darquavious and De'Leon kicked the shit out of that white bitch dat work fo de Onion. Dat am hope an change fo you.

  • Does the U.S. use the "race" data to benefit our population somehow, or do they use the data against us somehow?

  • What makes a race; skin color (there being thousands of skin tones), is it a culture a social structure, or just some label to divide people?

    Btw @ mikallink

There is more than one way to classify a race/s, using science.

  • the reason that african american is seperated from negro is that not everyone from africa is black(i.e.egyptians ,libyans etc.)and latino/hispanic has no scientific basis in ANY way whatsoever, unlike, caucasian, negro and mongoloid which are(mostly)actual races

  • @mikallink Latino/Hispanic HAS a scientific basis.

    /watch?v=SgaxKpbbadU

  • But in actuality/reality RACE does NOT even exist anyway lol

  • The census is full of shit because all it is doing is distorting and confusing people and it is very introverted. It's main purpose is to make the white population look superior and numerically the largest. If you notice Hispanics/Latinos are DEFAULTED automatically to white if they do not list a race on the census. So most Hispanics/Latinos get marked racially just for the demographic purposes as WHITE. Then those people that are listed as other are marked perhaps as white.

  • On the census we have hispanic on the list. I wonder how many of those are black hispanic???? People say hispanics are the biggest minority bigger than african american, but how many hispanics are black? Mexicans aren't black but cubans, puerto ricans, and dominicans are black. It's weird to say hispanics are the bigger minority than blacks when many hispanics are black too??

  • @BowendaBeast LOL. Exactly. The census is full of shit. Hispanic/Latino is NOT even a race in real life or on the census. Hispanics/Latinos come in ALL races for all nationalities. And you made generalizations on what certain nationalities are but realize that there are ALL races in every place in the world.

NOT ALL Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and Dominicans(DR) are black. There are whites and Asians in those countries.

Also there ARE millions of blacks in Mexico.

  • @chsn09 Hey man are native americans and chinese americans placed "white" on the census? Because there is no such thing as a red or yellow race. If they are put on the white race do they break them up into categories? I'm not sure how the census works but I hope you would be willing to answer this question. Thanks.

  • @BowendaBeast Good question. I am not sure. I heard about how the Census likes to lump as many people demographically as white so that whites are esteemed as numerically superior and socially superior. I heard mixed race folks that put other get marked as white as well. Well I would think that Chinese are marked as Asians but Asians are regarded as the "model minority" and as "honorary whites" so who knows? You know what is interesting is that white race is including more and more groups expand

  • @BowendaBeast

That census question on ethnicity is a disgrace from a narrow mindset set on fear for political incorrectness. A significant proportion of Dominicans, Cubans and Puerto Ricans AREN'T black, that is a fact. And culturally/ethnically speaking, even blacks from those backgrounds don't identify themselves with the African-American cultural/ethnic profile. Personally I'm Dominican and I couldn't check the black box because I'm not, I'm not even mulatto, does that mean I don't exist?

  • @BowendaBeast

And yet, I consider myself culturally-speaking Hispanic to the core, how can I deny it? If I checked the "Hispanic" box then some would raise their eyebrows because I'm expected -LOL- to look "brown" or mestizo...the Census has opened a can of worm with such a narrow definition of race and ethnicity.

  • @Certeroooo You're exactly right. I'm hispanic as well and people think I'm supposed to look brown or be a part of a latin race, but what race? I'm mexican I have mixed indian blood with European blood just as many other hispanics do with black, white, or indian descent. Or in some causes full European descent like an Argentine or full black maybe like a cuban. But Latin Americans are very mixed just like Americans, so calling latino a race or the question of ethnicity is stupid. I agree wit you

  • @BowendaBeast USA just confuses people with labels. People from so called Latin America and even the Caribbean are a mix. Caribbean people are fighting for a category in the census

  • @chsn09 So what is your solution man on the question of race and ethnicity on the census. If you could change anything on the census what would you do? Personally I think it's annoying because most of my "white" friends have no earthly clue where they're ancestors came from. One guy has the last name or Morris, where did it come from Ireland, England, Scotland? Who knows. The thing is just very confusing.

  • @Certeroooo Wtf are you doing here? LOL. Stalker much

  • @chsn09

Don't FLATTER yourself dude, last time I checked you didn't own YouTube so I can go wherever I want to express my point of view which of course, is not tainted by ethnocentric racial crap like yours and your online pals.

  • @Certeroooo LMAO. Well it sure is ironic you are in the same places that I am in. STALKER much? eh? LOL. Oh please everything you say is ethnocentric and you are always bringing racial crap and dragging people into your nonsense

  • negro means black so what is the problem with calling you black.

  • two of my sons are half Black and Half White. I don't think you can put people in a box we aren't called a melting pot for nothing. Who cares what race we are as long as we are Americans. Many are mixed, diverisity is good but to try and label people is wrong. You simple can't label all people that can only lead to segration. Don't try to label people as the Government is doing. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • Why even have a race option?

My GF was born in Guatemala, so would she be Latina? Well her mom was French. Would she be Caucasian? she has a child (from a previous relationship) that is half black, would that child also be black or nigro? What should she put down?

I'm 1/8th Cherokee but I don't consider myself a native american... Race is such a loaded question.

  • @Brantoc She is a white latina.

  • @lui920 I got a better suggestion.. LEAVE RACE OFF THE DAMN QUESTIONS! IT DOESN'T MATTER !!!!

  • Thank you for doing the research. You make total sense.

  • Thank you for doing the research. You make total sense.

  • I give everyone 1/330,000,000ish permission to just say 'I'- Be counted, not divided.

  • Can't say I disagreed with a single thing you said there, Baratunde.

  • Well done bro! You did really well. This is an important issue and you are doing a great job. "Why is there no option...?" They are going to miss. You get it.

  • i liked your representation and your diplomacy. that's a tough word to deal with - negro and i'm a guy who needs scientific basis. they should actually have someone at the census who fine-tunes the science to something more lamen for the masses of people. although 56k people used that in the last one, they should actually be able to substantiate that it's no longer the way to go ... unless of course "it is". either way, i like how you put your thing down.

  • Entirely agree with you and the census. What a lot of people miss is that the statistical information gathered by the Census Bureau is used by a plethora of governmental and non-governmental organizations in order to discover problems and propose policy solutions. For example, without asking about race, we would not be able to identify if a particular race is falling behind economically, or educationally and ask ourselves why that is.
