He's doing what he dose best. I saw him in New York two Septembers ago and he was just in Jashua Tree California a week ago! See him in concert some time and be blown away.
Can understand y jimmy page wanted his voice for led zep....it is so emotional and so bluesy.....love rock singers and I would pick his voice over paul rogers and robert plant....altho I love theirs too.....honorable mentions...peter hammill, captain beefheart, roger daltrey and van morrisson.
does anybody know anything more about this song....is it recorded on an album???...i have almost all of terry's stuff ...he sounds great then and still sounds great(saw him at BB kings NYC in september 10)
@1180jrock It's on an album called 'The Most of Terry Reid', released in 1969. Not sure if it's available on CD. Also has Mayfly, July, Rich Kid Blues etc. Well worth hunting down.
@cruithneuladh I used to manage a solo artist who knew Terry and I chatted with Terry and his wife. Terry was asked to be Led Zep vocalist and he recommended Robert Plant instead. Terry's voice is awesome and he's a lovely chap too.
@cherubsgirl Yeah...that's part of it. Terry would have gone for it if not for Mickie Most threatening to break Pagey's legs if he tried to take him. THAT is why Robert was recommended :)
hanman1, thank you so much for posting this, Terry Reid is one of the greatest unsung heroes in British music history, I'm lucky that I managed to get an original LP of his after much searching on the 'net.
A truly talented performer, thanks again for this clip, best wishes.
@Metalliville I followed him to The Lethones in St.. Andrews. Two of the best shows ever. so far I have listened to Rogue Waves 137 times according to my iTunes listing.
I don't the other artists you're speaking of but will certainly look them up Crow. Do you live anywhere Santa Monica, CA? Terry is playing there on the ninth of April. If I lived anywhere within 300 miles, I'd go! So thanks and thanks Han for posting this. :)
How on earth did I miss this man in the 70's? He's wonderful! Is he British? I just discovered him and I want to run out and get everything he's done. Wow.
Terry Reid, Frankie Miller from Scotland, Rory Gallagher out of Cork Ireland...The list goes on with Musicians who never made the top 40 in the USA- But they were Gods in the UK.
Its like there was another Rock Invasion going on outside the USA- its baffling realizing what was going on behind yer back all these years..
@crow1062 > in my book, too. Rory was kind enough to hold the backstage door open for me and my way underaged friends, 1974, Atlanta, and made us sit by him on stage. Miss him dearly. Terry, on the other hand, has his own club in L.A. Smart.
When Mick Jagger got married to Bianca Jagger in San Tropez in the south of France, the reception was packed with major stars. Jagger hired Terry Reid to be the wedding entertainment. That's how well he's loved by those in the know.
Yes, quite correct, Jay. JP did try to recruit Marriott to front the Moon/ Entwistle/ Hopkins/ Beck/ Page band in 1966, but his first choice then was Steve Winwood. Marriott was second choice, but Page got cold feet when SM's manager, Don Arden, asked Page how he would enjoy playing guitar with 10 broken fingers.
My original post related to JP's post-Yardbirds (1968) formation of Led Zep. I'm unsure what his thoughts on Winwood & Marriott were then, but Terry Reid was his first choice in '68.
Terry Reid was Jimmy Page's first choice as Led Zeppelin's vocalist. Reid turned him down flat since his solo career was then taking off. Subsequent legal disputes with manager/producer Mickey Most stalled his career for many years and today he is almost forgotten. A superb talent: singer, songwriter & guitarist.
but he was Jimmy's 2nd choice in 1968. Marriott was Page's first choice around May 1966 ( when he tried to form a band with Moonie, Entwistle and Beck). Moon is also responsible for the name Led Zeppelin.
Terry was in great form @ the studio on april 6, 2009. He had the audience in his hand and gave them his heart. I 'm hoping someone has a video of TERRY REID @ THE STUDIO NYC, 4/6/09... the band was a special one:
Ed Rainey from the Cosmic American Derelicts Band on guitar/ slide
spot the edit - first chorus is a droo in - exactly same as 2nd chorus....love it since i found it in bargain bin for 19/11 on MFP label in 1972...why they had to fit it into the middle of highway 61 is also a mystery....what a voice...the best to hear for his voice is 'Stay with me Baby'...
This takes me back to when i was a deleviry boy for a local grocery store and my first crush on the checkout girl, it was beautiful then, and is beautiful now..

What went wrong here?, why wasn't this guy recognised as one of the greatest proponents of British pop/rock?
Didn't he fit the stupid plastic media's ideal of a musician?
Now we have the totally talentless Cheryl Cole et al, bye bye popular music!

@thefabulousstevieg He also threatened to break all ten of Page's fingers, not his legs.
