You know, I missed this flood barely. My family moved to to Alaska summer of 85. Our house sold and closed three days before the basement flooded out. Yikes.
At about 32 seconds there is a sign for Consolidated Supply Company. A relative of mine was the owner of that company. He lost the whole business that day!
I remember that..it was something you will never see again..but thanks to you other people will get to see it..cool how you got kroger in there to show them how far the water honestly got to
whoa if the mcdonalds is there and thats the kroger then is taken from up on locust? I used to live on sycamore st. right up a road, few hundred yards away
That is a great video. I was like 6 or 7 at the time but my mother worked at Kroger at the time so I do have some memory of how much water was there. I wish the video was longer I would love to see some other areas of town. I live on Elm st, I would love to know where the water was during that flood.
I know the picture you're talking about. That was one of the first pictures featured in the "Killing Waters" book. Once you see that picture, it's forever burned into your memory.
I'm glad I wasn,t born yet 1993 for me I'm supriesed thought that the Mc Donalds was still there on Main Street or Pike I forgrget don't go downtown to much now I'm a freshman at Byrd
That picture you're talking about was taken in the town of Saint George in Tucker County. The cow was actually stuck under the bridge that spans the Cheat River.

The flood wiped out all my wife's family belongings in Meadowbrook. I remember taking back roads through Saltwell to get to work.
Terrible deal for West Virginians.

I grew up in Clarksburg, but was living elsewhere in 1985. My mom used to go shopping at that Kroger all the time.

I took a picture of the Canteen in Clarksburg during this flood, because the sign said "We never close".
It did close when it was in 5 feet of water though.
There's a famous picture from the 85 Flood of a cow stuck up under a highway overpass.
