  • Hey thanks for the tutorial, I just picked up mine yesterday. I went out and bought some FMJ ammo for it and shot it today. Wanted to learn how to strip it without reading the instructions cause im a visual learner. Good stuff thanks again.

  • Thanks for making this video...I appreciate it!

  • Just got my XD40 sub and then got my extra mag holder and 3 extra mags for free with their "Gear Up" promotion. Springfield rocks!

  • That weird because I have a fairly new xd with a captive spring... 4" model

  • hairy ass mofo...lol

  • I think the XD40 is much easier to field strip than a Glock 26 or 27, the Glocks has two small slide release on each side that needs to be pushed up while sliding back the slide just a little then sliding the slide foward, if it is slid back too much, then you missed it.

  • glock 's slide realease is 1solid unit that protrudes on each side you pull DOWN to realease slide i have a xd and love it but glock is actually faster and eaiser. bnsfjay, if glock is too hard to take down for you you should stick with airsoft.....

  • Where did I say it was too hard to break down a glock, and i'm assuming you got an airsoft.

  • Hey, quick question. With that short of a barrel is it louder than say a 4 or 5in gun? I know with revolvers a stub nose is a lot louder. Just wondering if the same is true for autos.

  • Typically the shorter the barrel, the louder the gun. This occurs due to the inability of the powder load to be fully consumed along with issues of bullet stabilization and speed. Just like revolvers, semi-autos lose accuracy and gain decibels with shorter barrels. With rifles, the loudest are those with muzzle brakes and bull barrels - the quietest being those with flash suppressors and of course, sound suppressors.

  • What mag is that on your .40 I have only been ablt to find mags with grip ext. not like that one.

  • or is it just the floor flate you switched and where did you get?

  • they come with that mag from springfield or atleast mine did

  • No offense but I'd still go with the xd so cheers.........

  • my friend just bought one of these and i tried it out at the range. the one thing i noticed was that it didn't have a trigger reset. is that how they are or is there something wrong with his. I carry the Glock 22 .40 and im used to the trigger reset, my groups were off big time because of the lack of reset and having a long pull every time.

  • All XDs have a trigger reset. I have no idea why your friend's wouldn't. It could be that the recoil is causing you to slip and release the trigger. Try pulling the trigger and holding it back. Then gently ease it forward. You will feel a click of the reset. This eliminates about half of the trigger pull.

  • i checked the reset dry firing it of course. There is a click but it's still to far out so i think something is wrong with it. My Glock 22 has a trigger reset and it works exactly like you describe but it's not the same way on my friends XD.

  • I heard this gun is better than a glock is that true?

  • Better is relative. The XD took the best parts of many different guns and put them together. It has SIG barrel lockup, takedown, and sights. It has 1911 grip angle and grip safety. It has a glock trigger safety. The action is not like a glock though, and I believe it is better. My XD has never experienced a single malfunction. The design is now 10 years old and has proven itself to be just as reliable as a glock.

  • Glock was the first then everyone else copied. Glock, springfield xd's, sig sauer, walther p99, all those guns are very similar and the one thing about then all is as long as you use factory loaded ammo you will not get a malfunction. I used to be a glock man because that's what i carry but these guns i listed are all equally reliable and as gooid as the next, just stay away from hi point and you'll be fine

  • you're absolutely correct about copying from the glock cuz the design looks similar but they added extra stuff on the xd. That's why it's better which is a good thing too. Maybe years from now there will be better guns than the springfield xd.

  • the insides are the same as the glock, the only thing i noticed they added is a grip safety which i could do without, a more complicated way to field strip and a trigger without a reset. these are all negatives in my opinion so in my book glock is better, it has the best trigger in a double action gun and you can swap barrels like the .40 to a .357sig, or a 9mm. it's not better it's just another one like all the others and that's why 85% of law enforcement still trust there lives to glock

  • I just bought a xd 40 subcompact. This is my first gun and I really like it. It is very easy to strip down, making it easy to clean it. I paid $499.00 in oct 2008.

  • I have a Springfield Subcompact 9mm. I absolutely love it! I went 9 instead of .40 due to cost in gun and ammo....but it's still great! Let's see some more educated women shooters out there! :)

  • just bought a XD45 4" Service w/ 2-13 round mags and XD gear for $499 w/ tx =( $532.44 )

    ( Feb 4th 2009 )

    absolutely love it!

    I bought it...to replace my old Ruger P97DC .45

I personally think..it was a great decision I made according to the upgrade. I also put a Hogue Handall Grip onto it and modified the grip to accomodate the grip safety ( so its NOT blocked and retains its functionality )

XD pistols are LOVELY.. my next one..will be a subcompact XD...either 9mm or .40

  • As I have stated before, I take NO credit for this video. It was posted at another site and was taken down for some reason, so that was my reason to re-post it here. I am glad you all enjoy it! Best wishes!

  • hows the recoil on this? great gun and vid by the way!

  • Recoil on a 40 S&W is different than that of a 9mm or 45 ACP. It's a bit 'snappier'. 9mm has minimal recoil while the 45 ACP is more of a 'pushing' recoil. I personally don't mind the 40 S&W, which I find a great medium between 9 and 45; however, I would definitely recommend that anyone considering purchasing a firearm in 40 S&W, rent and shoot one at a range first.

  • exactly, i don't have a problem with my .40 but it does have a different recoil pattern than the .45 or 9mm

  • best gun i owned so far.. and shoots the best

  • I have 3 of the XD-40's and 2 XD-9mm. Absolutely love them. Great gun to carry or for home defense. I use mine at least 3-5 times a week and have killed hundreds of papers targets with them.

  • the P8 is more easier to take apart^!

  • the spring on the "tactical" model looks very dangerous, even if you are "very careful" mistakes still do happen especially with oily hands and oily parts with adrenaline running through you. always were your safety glasses kids!

  • Thanks for the video. I do love how amazingly easy the Springfield XD is to take apart! So much easier than the Ruger Mark III. Of course, the Springfield is for a different role entirely, but still. A fantastic gun.

  • " I do love how amazingly easy the Springfield XD is to take apart!"

Recently I was in the market for a good .40 and I narrowed it down to the Springfield and the Kahr PM40. I went with the Sprinfield because it is esaier to field strip.

  • correction ''i want'' and the second question was is he doing it incorrectly or is that a default of the xd?

  • i have a question i wanr the 3'' xd in a 40 but they say its not very accurate i can get the 45 in 4'' but i really like it in the 3 '' you tube also has a video with a guy that has an xd that the slide jams every time he tried to take it apart or is that hes not doing it right?

  • He is definately doing it wrong. I can disassemble and re assemble my XD-40 in 17 seconds. Those Croations who designed the firearm have done a fine job of creating a weapon that is reliable and easy to take apart. I've had mine for 2 days now and haven't been able to shoot it yet- Isn't that terrible!!??

  • LOVELY!!

my next purchase will be a few XD pistols!

    * XD 9 subcompact.

    * XD 40 subcompact.

    * XD 45 4" tactical.

    ( thumbs up )

  • Do you mean 4" service or 5" tactical....?

  • yeah...thanks for correcting me.

    :)

the 4" Service! I love those Springfield XD handguns!

    Lovely.

  • this will be my next purchase

  • I just bought one of these today.

  • Congratulations on a good purchase, you won't regret it!

  • One question though,I have read the manual and use of the speedloader but still the mags are difficult to load completely any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • A video would help a lot. Thanks

  • Well, I would love to make a video, but alas, I do not have the equipment. The springs in the magazines may be stiff for the first month or so. I would recommend loading your mags full and leaving them that way when you aren't at the range. Also, make sure that you are using the speed loader correctly (the button that pushes down on the follower and additional rounds is on the back half of the rounds as they are being loaded).

  • If you are still having problems, there is always the option of loading 1-2 rounds shy of the capacity. I don't really like that idea myself for concealed carry, but there's no need to beat up your hand loading at the range for practice. Once again, good luck and message if you have any other questions.

  • Thanks, I got it now.

  • if i want a compact gun, what's the difference between this, and buying a taurus pt145 millennium pro? I have heard nothing but good things about the taurus pt145 mp.

  • Replied in private message.

  • you should do a vid on how to clean and were to oil and not to on this particular gun.

  • I didn't actually make this video, it was on LifeLibertyEtc dot com for awhile, then they took it down, so I posted it for those who could use the help. Email the website owner and let him know you like the video and want him to do more.

  • oops sorry about that i never read the discriptions. I forget you can post other peoples vids.

  • Thanks for the video. Am seriously cosidering thus for C&C. I too am not too keen on that take-down lever.

  • Thanks for the post. How would you rate the Sub-compact. Is there anything you don't like about it?

  • The only gripe I have is that it wasn't designed from the ground up to be a sub-compact. In a way that's bad, but on the other hand, if you have used a full-size XD, it feels exactly the same. I haven't found anything specifically that I dislike about it, but it might be nice to redesign the take-down lever to eliminate the chance of scratching the slide.

  • good to know, thanks for the reply.

  • Very helpful & concise.

    Thanks for your post!
