  • @1sysyphus yes that's true

  • Schade, daß ich da erst ein paar Monate alt war .....

  • The story I heard was that this guy hugged chris taylor before the match to see if he could lock hands. It was odd but he was a foreign and everyone thought he was just weird. After he found that he could touch his fingers he said that he was going to throw chris taylor-and then in the match he did. Not sure if that is true, but that is the story.

  • Didn't look like the Olympics to me.

  • does anybody know why taylor still got bronze in this olympics and Dietrich got 4th?

  • @kjdwd Dietrich beat him in Greco-Roman, but lost to Taylor in the Freestyle competition.

  • @Atax oh ok thanks

  • Wow this dude is hella strong to pick this big mofo up and 5 his azz truly amazing, I'm going to try it on a 380 pounder at my gym tomarrow

  • @iwanttofight69 lol good luck with that.

  • gay

  • danke fürs uploaden, hab grad vom dem kampf auf wikipedia gelesen.

  • I thought the fight was Taylor vs. Dietrich.

  • @TheRennwagenreinhard that was taylor vs dietrich

  • Super Germany!!!

  • Comment removed

  • omg looks gay

  • taylor wasn't shit all he was was big he was gable's bitch in iowa state's wrestling room

  • спрогиба))

  • that`s what happens when it`s solely USA vs Germany and not USA+Russia+Europe vs. Germany

  • @wolfgangle Yes, comparing the olympics to the curb stomping we gave germany in the forties, lets do that then. Since this video is of the 1972 olympics lets get something a little more up to date. 2008 olympics USA 36 gold 38 silver 36 bronze 110 total. Germany 16 gold 10 silver 15 bronze 41 total. For the record, Germany lost this match as well, the only loss Taylor had in the games was to Alexander Medved from team USSR. Taylor got the bronze.

  • @Fektthis But I do give props to Dietrich, he holds the record for most medals by a modern olympic wrestler. Five total 1 gold 2 silver 2 bronze. Didn't get anything this time, just a ticket home to retire broken by this big ass dude. 1 point isnt a match. So yeah, I see what you mean, we still beat germany's ass. Although if you bring up the fact this fat dude looks like most americans these days, I'd be hard pressed to disagree.

  • @Fektthis ever heard of alexander karelin

  • @wolfgangle ya ur rite, it was USA+ Russia+Europe vs. German+Italy+Japan, go back to history class kiddo

  • actually this was in Greco Roman

  • jahaaa wilfrid dietrich from my hometown schifferstadt \o/

  • good thing the man in blue's spine broke the fall. otherwise there might have been some mat-burn and quite possibly an unintended nap.

  • If that was on concrete, the guy in blue would have been done!!! Look at his head.

  • @19thaman79 Almost like a piledriver on concrete

  • WOOOOOOW!!!

  • He's stronger then heck

  • this guy came from my high school(chris taylor) we have a football field named after him lol. yes a football field even tho he wrestled.

  • Dude had some serious strength, and a neck made of steel!

  • Damn!!! How does 420 pounds fell on ones neck?

  • fucking foreigners

  • Very dangerous how did he not break his neck?

  • Doing wrestler bridge exercises, buddy. Not a smart exercise to do for other sports physiology wise, but there's hardly any better exercises out there than wrestler's bridges for wrestlers ;)

  • Don't be a retard. Bridges strengthen your neck which is beneficial for all sports. You may not be rolling on your head in other sports but it helps protect you. Fighters also need a strong neck both on the mat and for protection when receiving head shots.

  • @ChrisMyersTWOA: There are other ways to strengthen your neck in other sports, one method are using neck weights, which is beneficial in sports like boxing (and also muay thai, which also helps you get out of thai clinches), and seeing as you won't be bridging out of pins in other sports, a wrestler's bridge remains a core for wrestling, but an alternative neck strengthening method for other sports. Doesn't stop me from doing bridges too though, even though I'm technically not a wrestler :P

  • @sukotsutoclone2 Boxers have used the bridge maybe as long as wrestlers had for neck strength the sports as you see thewm today are maybe 120 years old . Only recently have boxers started using weights hanging on a harness. There was a fighter who used a football helmet with a bar connected to the top somehow with weight plates stacked on top this was in the 80's. His name was Kenny Bang Bang Bogner

  • @Richdanahuff Yeah that was old school boxing training - probably to develop neck strength in order to absorb blows to the head, although they moved on to harness weights (or simply working on bobbing, weaving and dodging using head movement) since doing harness weights keeps the boxer in proper chin position (ie tucked in) whereas bridging doesn't.

Bridging is still hella important in not only wrestling, but grappling overall. The head and neck is a very strong leverage on the ground.

  • @sukotsutoclone2 Good points

  • It's been a big part of all my warm-up routines throughout my school years. Here's where I see your point.....Contact sports utilize the bridge when basketball or baseball would not. Although I've never in my life warmed-up for either previously mentioned sports.

  • Sauerkraut!

  • maybe muscels or your mother

  • geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez

  • 惜しかったね。この選手は。

  • 420 pounds? can you even wrestle at that weight class? i thought the cut off weight for heavys was around 280?

  • back in those days they didnt really have a limit until a few years after

  • 600 Pfund auf Zehenspitzen!Unvergessen.

    Wilfried, Du warst ein Held!

    Ruhe sanft.

  • omg

  • LOL!

  • amo..;]

    perfeito

  • Back when i was in college you could actually get a poster of this suplex.

  • ZarWrestler Wrote:

"the thrower should have lost here because both of his shoulders touch the mat when he lands "

Even Thow both of his shoulders touch the mat he was still in control dosnt matter it happens all the time

  • the thrower broke like 5 of his vertabrae from doing this to

  • Comment removed

  • no duh dumbass he does have to be in control cuz you are not going to get the touch fall by just you the throwee being a sorry little fuck for getting thrown like he did go read the freestyle rules before you comment again

  • youre obviously a stupid american

  • bitch america would kick ur ass for that nigga

  • im white nigga

  • It's "You're," you stupid non-grammar-having stupid fucking Canadian living in the tundra in our shadow. Bitch.

  • get PWNT

  • jawolle die deutsche ficke die amis!!!

german is the best fuck of the rest:P

  • Crazy

  • That's horrible. You must be a real prick.

  • Wow... that guy was monster!

  • Wow its amazing to see a huge guy like that fly through the air. That german must have been one hell of an athlete.

  • AMEN!

  • He is a legend in Germany. More heart in him than in 1 bio keyboard critics. Dietrich, an exgoldmedalist in 56 or 60, was past his prime but one last time came back to old strength

  • This is the Olympics, different set of rules than "Folk Style" Im am sure you could Google mounds of information on how each are scored differently.

  • the thrower should have lost here because both of his shoulders touch the mat when he lands

  • why don't you learn what you're talking about before posting retard. This is freestyle. Regardless, he initiated the move so he wouldn't be pinned in folkstyle either.

  • practice what you preech, there's no "touchfall" in folkstyle

  • Yes, there is no touchfall in folkstyle. Thanks for the update. However, I never said there was a touchfall in folkstyle. My point was, and still is, the person who initiates the move (i.e., the "thrower" using your lingo) scores, unless countered by the other wrestler. No way Taylor countered, so your original post is incorrect. Preach is also spelled with an "a".

  • its spelled preach

  • before the match the smaller guy hugged the bigger dude just to see if he could get his hands around him... just sayin

  • an interesting article in 'amateur wrestling news' about this classic match.

  • The Chris Taylor I know can fit in that guys leg.

  • Did Alexander Medved beat this guy from W. Germany Gold Medal then in 1972?

  • i am traumatized

  • the fater they are the fatter they fall

  • Chris Taylor, biggest wrestler in the sport. Can you believe his opponent even survived that throw. What a Nut!

  • just a legend, always when the olympic games take place this is shown on tv as one of the most fascinating moments.

would have been great to see this live

  • my father once scored a takedown on this polar bear of a man

  • Ouch! that looked like it had to hurt. He looked like he fell on his neck!

  • Taylor continued to hold on after landing. It looks like he practically pinned himself.

  • Yes, he was in a dominate position.

I dont think that the rule book says that the opposing

wrestling has to be in a dominate position for it to be a pin...

    A pin is a pin.

2 shoulder blades on the mat.

  • for international style wrestling, it's all about intent/initiation (unlike American Folkstyle, where control has to be maintained) I can turn and face my back to the mat and not give up a score, but if the other guy makes movement that has intent of putting me on my back, he scores. With this throw, despite it not having "settled in", the thrower was moving in an offensive manner, the back was flat.. so it's a fall.

  • jeah, sure, the neck was broken and the guy is jumping for joy:)

  • was he even in a dominant position for the pin?

  • I helped score Chris' 1968 Michigan Class B Wrestling State tournement Heavyweight final match, held @ Godwin Heights High School in Wyoming, Michigan. He lost to a solid muscle farm (?) boy, Ben Lewis, from Fenton. Chris was the HWT class B state champ in 1967.

  • OMGoodness

  • My bad, he won the Olympic Bronze, not the Silver, in Freestyle in 1972. His only loss was to Alexander Medved, in the quarterfinals, so third was the best he could do after being cheated, as I said below.

  • I had to wrestle Chris three times in 8 days, a dual match against Iowa State, and in the finals of two tournaments. I was Nebraska's Heavyweight, at 220#. He was NOT just some big fat guy, he was a Grizzly bear of a man, very quick and strong. He won the Silver in Freestyle that same year, and was robbed of the Gold by an East German ref, who favored the Russian, Alex Medved so badly he was kicked out by the OC. I got to know Chris as a friend and met his wife. He was a truly nice guy, miss him

  • Yes, you placed in the Big 8 in 1973 and also won a bout at Nats.

Was lucky enough to have seen Chris wrestle at College Park in 1972. Unforgettable.

He was the Original Gentle Giant from all accounts.

  • Yes, Hoss Cartwright kind of guy. Wish I had accepted his offer to be a tag team partner in Pro Wrestling, but it was so sleazy back then. Curious about your knowledge, did you wrestle? Yes, i won a couple at Nats, lost to Joel Kislin of Hofsta,4-3, or I could have faced taylor again.

  • Mostly a wrestler wannabe. Roomed with Wayne Boyd of Temple 66-67; he later won Temple's only NCAA title in 1969.

A lot of excellent wrestlers were on campus then, former Nat. Prep champ Albie D'Loia and Dave Pruzansky, 2-time NJ State champ and a winner at the Wilkes Open, among many others.

Temple no longer has a team--Title IX excuses abound.

  • The NCAA Wrestling Guide says you won one NCAA tournament match and lost to Kislin 7-3.

  • Wow, where do you find this stuff? My memory may be going...hey, when I placed in the big 8,I got to the Nats by beating Oklahoma's hwt, a guy named Kalbrenner. I heard the next year he won Nats. Check it out, please.

  • Kalbrenner failed to place in 1974 but did take 4th in 1975 at Nats (held at Princeton that year).

  • Great video, great move by Dietrich.

BUT......(and I don't notice that anyone mentioned this yet):

According to Chris Taylor article in Wikipedia (see the caption of the photo), Dietrich BROKE HIS NECK on the move.

    Was it worth it?

Funny thing is, Dietrich might very well have said YES.

  • Yeah... definitely worth it.

  • no he did not break his neck, if HE BROKE HIS NECK do you think he would a) be able to drive the 400+ pound taylor for the pin and b) get up after the pin and start jumping around, don't trust wikipedia, it lies

  • YES HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO.

"Breaking your neck" doesn't necessarily mean spinal injury..... yeah of course it's still AWFUL but I think it's quite possible he woulda been able to do all that.

Don't get me wrong....I know it's not necessarily true that he broke his neck, but I don't think it's impossible.

  • johnny-49:

The guy was saying it was Chris who suffered the broken neck according to Wikpedia which does not "lie."

  • are you supid people write anything they want on wikpedia its not always right i could go write that on wikepedia right now if i wanted

  • Wikipedia is as reliable as any other human/humanoid source, tuckie.

  • dude it was deitrick whos neck was broke.

  • Das war der Kran von Schifferstadt

  • I thought I was going to see chris taylor the gamemaker....

  • When Taylor arrived in Munich with the American team, he was introduced to Dietrich in the Olympic village and Dietrich made a big show out of hugging Taylor and making nice for the cameras.

After the match, Dietrich admitted that he felt he could suplex Taylor if, but only if, he could take him by surprise. What Dietrich didn't know is whether he could get his arms around Taylor, so the hug wasn't a friendly gesture, he was measuring him for when they wrestled later in the games.

  • From a wrestling fan view point the greatest throw ever!!! From A wrestling coaches view Chris Taylor had the worst stance ever.

  • no it's the heavyweight stance man

  • I remember seeing Chris Taylor wrestle when I was a kid. He wrestled for Iowa State. He easily defeated the heavyweight from Wisconsin. To me, the German wrestler here was taking a big chance using the move he did. What do you wrestlers think?

  • hammer wurf!

  • That was beautiful.

  • that was the olny match chris ever lost in his college career

  • how the hell did he lift him

  • steroids durrr

  • Classic response - LMFAO!

  • its called years of training

  • he got taylor's momentum coming into him and and he lifted. technique>strength

  • HA HA HA THAT WAS GREAT

  • Thank you very much for post this video

    A excellent suplay of Dietrich

  • Anyone have this in real time? Please post.

  • btw usmananjum17 there wasn't always a limit. and chris taylor is the big guy, not the smaller one.

  • "gentle giant" gets thrown...ouch

  • i want my mommy...

  • I remember this. My eyes were wide and my jaw dropped. Chris Taylor had a lot of build-up before the Olympics and it was a surprise to see him taken out in such a dramatic way.

  • Yourdaddy5000 Suck my dick you peace of shit..go kill ur sefl.

  • wtf is up ur ass you gay ass son of a biatch

  • fuck you iam going to rape you CARLOS :)()()()()()

  • lmao jahir

    little biatch

  • unbelievable... He is strog

  • i want "The Throw" poster so bad

  • just wondering i wreslte and i taught there was a weight limit on heavyweights? because that guy was way bigger than chris taylor

  • Chris Taylor is the 420 pounder.

    There is NOW a limit.

  • I'm not really interested in wrestling but after I just saw a documentation about the life and career of Wilfried Dietrich I looked up some more infos and found this video. It's really amazing to watch the throw. Even more in slow motion.

By the way ... W. Dietrich (58) and C. Taylor (29) both died from a heart attack.

  • score one for the little man

  • one of the greatest all time greco throws in olympic history. loved seeing it again

  • greco roman

  • Dietrich was 115 kg / 253 lbs and o x s tr o n g. A national hero in Germany among the nowadays older generations. He won everything that can be won in real wrestling including around 30 german titles

  • LITTLE MAN BEATS A FAT GUY!!!

  • Dietrich was introduced to Taylor a few days before this match and made a big show out of being nice and hugging Taylor. After the match he said he felt he could suplex Taylor if he caught him off guard, but wasn't sure he could get his arms around Taylor given Taylor's mass. He wasn't just being nice to Taylor when he hugged him, he was measuring him!

    Great, great clip.

  • Holy Shit!

  • The Greatest Throw of All Time! 230lb. Wilfried Dietrich Thowing 440lb. Chris Taylor in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Had the poster in my room for 10 years. The people are too small in the back ground but clear in the poster, most were watching other matches.

    Lester Ware

  • damn that shyt was clean

  • I'd love to wrestle this way, sucks!!

  • Show it in real time...it would be amazing...

  • was that greco roman or freestyle

  • Freestyle. Medved won the Gold Medal, Taylor went on to win Bronze and the German placed fifth.

  • Nope. Greco roman. But they met before in Freestyle and there Taylor had won

  • That was some amazing strength!

  • I know a guy that wrestled him in in the Michigan High School State Tournament.

  • sick shit I wonder whats a weight of that fat ass...

  • cmon no could see that happen that fucking amazing

  • arguably the best move in a match ever. i think it is. thats fuckin amazing.

  • the winner was an famous german wrestler. NO Doping only hard working and training.

  • oh shit!!!1

  • Chris Taylor was an amazing athlete. I first saw him at the Midlands in 1968(?) when he wrestled for a JUCO from Michigan. Very nice guy. He passed away too early.

  • It's amazing and it's mostly leverage. Once you get that much weight moving in one direction, it's hard to stop it. If you look at the guy in blue, he didn't have to struggle to get the other guy up. He just got him off balance. Sure he has power too but this is a brilliant display of how leverage works in a match up

  • Wow that guy must be on some serious steriods! That was insane!

  • Suplay is what call it in Freestyle/Greco Roman wrestling and what they used to call it in Pro Wrestling in the 80's.

  • It was originally called suplay, which anyone who ever heard Gordon Solie would know.

  • holy shit

  • nice

  • LOL DAMMMNN... take dat fatty
