No-offence but the tab book you had was wrong. My advice is to buy the Lick Library AC/DC DVD and it is explained step by step and even beginners or even legends can understand how to learn the songs. Or Ultimate Guitar.com

You don't have to play guitar religiously for 10 years to figure out a solo by ear. I've been playing less than five years and can identify a note or chord being played or figure out a solo. It takes more time to learn than reading off a tab obviously but you act like it's impossible to have good ears. Some people can do it alot better than me and don't play instruments, just sing. It's not as difficult as you think.
