If you saw "They Went That-A-Way and That-A-Way" in December, 1978 (those were the days where a lot of movies were still released regionally), it didn't open in theaters in Western PA until March, 1979 -- that's when I first saw it.
Sony introduced the first widespread video cassette in 1969 and The first domestic videocassette were launched in the early 1970s and beta came out in 1975. The Carol Burnett show aired September 11, 1967 March 29, 1978 on fridays at 9:00pm and Tim Conways They Went That-A-Way & That-A-Way came out on December 1978 so the show was before the movie and this was based from the skit on the show.
This skit is often said to be the funniest bit from the Carol Burnett Show so it was recreated here in They Went That-A-Way & That-A-Way with Dub Taylor filling in for Harvey Korman. Comedians like Abbott & Costello and Jerry Lewis often recreated their best routines in films. Also, this was before video stores, VHS or the Carol Burnett show was even in syndication, so it is doubtful that the kids who went to see this movie remembered or caught the original which ran at a late time.
The patient actor is a LOT better in this than Harvey Korman (R.I.P.) was at keeping a straight face during Tim's antics. But then again, they get multiple takes in a movie, and the Carol Burnett Show was live!
That's Reni Santoni. He played Harry Callahan's young new partner in the first "Dirty Harry." Was in "Bad Boys" with Sean Penn, played Stallone's partner in "Cobra," and others.
Tim conway was on The Carol Burnett Show from 1967 to 1978 and played various characters in 30 episodes and the movie that i got this clip from was made in 1978 but i'm not sure what year he did this on The Carol Burnett Show but i am almost 100% positive that the movie was after
I love the one with Harvey Korman better. It was alot less serious and it's always funny watching Harvey Korman TRYING to restrain himself from laughing. TIM is so funny I want to cry!
Can you imagine Harvey Korman in this part of the movie? You think he couldn't stop from convulsing in the Dentist skit on Carol Burnett, he would completely lose it here. roflmao!!!!
ROTFLOL!! Now I know where they got the idea to do this on the Carol Burnett Show!

I wonder how many takes this took until the patient actor could keep his cool?

Cannonball Taylor has been in a mess of Westerns, too. I used to like to hear him say..."Wy...Beeel" for Wild Bill.

He played in many cowboy movies.

I thought that it was painful to watch, even worse than Dorf on Golf. It is obvious that Carol,Harvey, and Vicki carried him for years.

The person with Tim Conway in the beginning of the clip is Chuck McCann. He played in a lot of children's shows.
