So if i want good action quality shots the GoPro would be better, the Cannon, will just have to sit on the tripod if the subject matter isn't moving to much. Will the cannon put into focus the background as well as the foreground? The above shot is clear on the subject matter but the background looks really bad. Thanks

@FJvoodoo The background looks exactly like it should: Great. 70-200 lenses like this one have great bokeh, and give nice shallow DOF, even at f4. The background should NOT be in focus as it would distract us from the actor. This is why so many people use DSLRs over camcorders. A small sensor in the digicam like GoPro or Canon Legria give the photographer much less control over DOF. This is why you'll never see a hollywood film shot on such a camera.

@triggerdance Guess I should have said, how do you mount a Canon on a motorcycle helmet, or filming underwater, or chest mount when you skydive, or going down a 2000ft mountain on a bike, but i guess you could mount it under a car that just broke the Pikes Peak climbing record. How would you mount a cannon to do all those things? But then again GoPro is for sports minded people who like action just like the ones shot in Hawaii on a surfboards. Is the Cannon shockproof? UH, NO!!

@MikeezXF ok its called shallow focus. If you have a dslr with a 50 mm lense then you should get it already haha. if not and if you have a camcorder, backup as far as you can and zoom in on your subject and you will get shallow focus

@geishathor Yeaaaa...if you want video then get a video camera. Yes, the 5d ii has amazing video capabilities but it is still a DSLR. Neither camera is better. Period. They're completely different. 5d ii has more resolution, video and custom recall buttons while the D700 has less resolution, superior autofocus system for lowlight stuff like concerts/sports, better build quality/weather sealing...etc. They're both great cameras and each has a different use. Clearly you are biased towards Canon.
