  • Note this They are legal!!!!

  • E verification! E VERIFY. gov How hard can it be? We have a giant sign on I 20 now for E verify

  • iligal imigrnt come to eropean america to be the slaves of the italians the arish and every other eoropean american.how do eorupens get here and is the law the same for them

  • illegal aliens of all countries must obey the law and employers of illegal aliens need to be fined and put prison.

  • biatch work for 8$/h?

  • @mufasa10811 In THIS economy??? Sure thing.

  • Institutionalizes slavery? From the age of 6 we are trained to do a 8 to 3 shift Monday thru Friday. And we continue to do so untill the age of 65. So we can pay the taxes that make the U.S.A. the great country it is. Call it what you want. It works.

  • check out the collapse of the subprime mortgage market. check ut the amount of debt that people are living with to credit cards. do you live off of credit? ever buy your groceries or pay a bill with credit? the MAJORITY of americans have, because their wages are too low for them to make ends meet.

  • Credit card debt is a life choice. Living beyond their means. How does someone get a credit card if they can't pay the bills? thats plain dumb. Living frugal is an art. Sounds like the people you talk about don't have enough self discipline. Being a REAL chef makes good money. At least 35k a year. I'm retired in Mexico because I was smart with money. I didn't use credit to get what I want.

  • i am pleased to hear that you are personally responsible for your finances. i highly reccomend you watch a documentary posted on my live video account (skinnychef) called "maxed out". it speaks directly to the question of the debtor society in which i live in the US. thanks for the discourse-- you obviously are well educated, regardless of the paper on the wall...and btw, i too have lived under the poverty level my whole adult life, and am debt free. but you and i are anomalies.

  • Black Americans choose to be Muslim because it gives them a way to get back at "the Man".. As if looking at your tar baby faces everyday isn't enough punishment.

  • Ever hear of supply and demand? If the apples don't get picked the price jumps. Feaking anti-capitalist B.S. You want to be a muslim? Go to the Mid East. Because I see a target on your back if you stay.

  • That isn't a sign of out of control capitalism. Its a sign of out of contol politicians. The North American Union is coming. Keeping the continent clean of Socialism and Marxism and Maoism is the goal. Go back into your closet, they are looking for you.

  • I have no problem with the immigrant workers. They do work hard and are only trying to make a living. If the crop of apples though is not valuable enough to be picked with a decent wage paid then maybe they aren't worth the trouble. I believe the truth is that the savings on the labor costs goes into someones pocket instead of lower prices at the market.

  • This is the perfect example on how the USA is sucking 70% of the world's resources. If they employ locals they will have to pay upwards of $20-25 per hour to americans which will increase apple prices. So they get help for $4 an hour and keep prices down. The world dies of hunger while the USA enjoys cheap prices. Utopia.

  • AND-- with the global economy, we are forced to employ illegal substandard wages to compete with apples grown in chile, etc.

Check out Community Sustainable Agriculture. Buy local, buy organic, buy sustainable-- don't support bifg agri-biz...farms like this-- apples like this-- poison you and the environment and the economy!!

  • Wrong, I see Washington grown apples for sale in south central Mexico. The carbon monoxide and degreasers in the kitchen you work in are far more dangerous than apples.

  • That is a fallacious argument. Relate for us why keeping apple prices down CAUSES the world to die of hunger. Connect your dots my friend.

  • Back up that stat you ingorant putz. Its $1 for 1 avacado. That isn't cheap! Mexico's prices are 25x cheaper. I guess Mexico is starving the world too huh.. Anti American retoric with no substance.

  • Apple pickers don't make $20 per hour you goof. A chef might not even make that much. You seem to pull your comments out of your ass.

  • But what do I expect from a man who has no sense of idenity but what he borrows from other cultures. Keep your Muslim crap to yourself cheegum.

  • Competition is competition, and US news organizations already attack each other on a daily basis, it seems that they can all agree to attack Al Jazeera by default. but you never know, perhaps seeing that legal migrant workers get so many luxuries such as housing and a gas allowance will create chaos for some...perhaps you should go down to Washington DC to their broadcast headquarters and deal with them accordingly Supsoo...

  • Destabilize a work force and watch the migration to exploitation, if workers are unwilling to work for low wages then they should increase wages, pure capitalism dictates that and that's one reason why resident workers programs exist. At $30+ hr everyone would do it, @ $15hr some would do it, but @ $5.15hr or less the exploited immigrant will do it with little if any net revenue...

  • Is there something wrong with Capitalism? If you were buying a car, would you choose to pay more or less for the same car? Less of coarse. You anti-U.S. people are scum. All you do is point out a problem, but have no solutions. Obviously you feel oppressed because your lazy.

  • That's corporate politics not Capitalism, short supply and high demand means high wages...Anti-Corporate exploitation not anti-U.S....40hr work week, 2 day weekend Overtime, all union achievements not Corporations, Lazy I'm a PROJECT ENGINEER with a master...I just know the difference b'twn politic & Capitalism...

  • I've worked with union workers, they get away with murder while a non-union working stiff gets taxed. I don't mind being exploited by corporations as long as I get benefits and get paid. What about MLK day? Whites aren't offered this day as a paid day off. But blacks are!? Work on that one.

  • they're sure trying to create an upheaval by posting a fact based piece on apple picking migrant workers...no matter how much US agenda based news organizations tell you, Al Jazeera is not the mouth of the terrorist networks, and is not out to get you. it's actually one of the most globally recognized and respected news organizations around the world, but we would never know that living in the US.

  • I think it may be helpful to let you know that Al Jazera (although demonised in the US) is actually just a regular news outlet like CNN or BBCN. The coverage is no different than how Dateline would cover things if it served Arab communities AND it porbably borrowed this story from NBC ABC or CNN.. dickhead

  • Yummiest aljazeera news story yet =)

  • valuable fruit would not be left hanging on the trees if the farmers paid a living wage. resident worker programs = slave wages

  • Yeah, that's why you saw him paying for their housing, satellite TV, and gas.

It's because of the difficulty of the work. There are plenty of well-paying jobs out there, they just require more physical work than others.

  • Go hug an apple tree. Why are you skinny? Does your food suck? If people want to work at that wage, what business is it of yours? Go flip an egg.

  • the issu to me,rik, is that as long as we pay substandard wages to some, ie. resident workers and prisoners, ther will NEVER be a living wage in the US. or elsewhere. it is institutionalized slavery.

  • Really? What is your wage? Does the unskilled labor force of illegal immigrants effect your wage? I think you are full of socialist retoric.

  • Lets try marxism and see what kind of wage they get.

  • that is a non sequitur. and in reality, resident worker programs constitute a corporate subsidy, corporate welfare. do you prefer the rights of the corporate entity to the rights of the individual? do you beleive in corporate welfare, the trickle down theory? hasn't worked yet-- and the welfare state, be it corporate or otherwise is closer to socialist than what I am talking about.

  • perhaps you are rik. and yes i've seen a steady decline in wages across the board as well as inflation. the inflation index does not include consumables, like food and fuel, the reality is that there is inflation, wages do NOT keep up with the cost of living. on a humanitarian level, how do you justify people getting paid less than a living wage?

  • Lack of education, I've lived below the poverty line for years. 2 weeks pay for rent, 2 weeks pay for the bills. the rest goes to gas and beer. If I wasn't a chef also, I would be a little hungry during those times. If people could get an education or climb the corporate ladder they can make more money. If they are unskilled they will always have to take entry level jobs that pay less. During the 80's and 90's I never made more than 6.50 per hour.
