I think that there are 2 separate issues involved - the rights to the song, and the rights to a particular recording of a song. I'm not an expert but I think that somebody like the Turtles can make a recording of a song, but that does not give them any control over the original music or words to it (unless they are also the owners of it). It shouldn't be too hard to find out who the owner is, it's probably on the net somewhere, or the label of the record or CD of it.
Maybe in ten years from now we're gonna think that todays commercial sucked so hard as the 80's commercials.. but not this one... this one is bad ass!

this is the worst commercial that i possibly saw today..out of all of the tv commercials i try to see this one not the best but worst sometimes even before you scrape your leg it ties to your tastebuds and doesn't make me wonder too much about what shoul'dn't have grown forward and beyond the park.
I wonder if the turtles regret this. It's one thing to let your song be used in the commercial, but this is ridiculous. I mean, "ooh that golden honey and graham cracker taste... of goledn grahams", that's a horrible thing to do to a great song.
If it wasn't for the commercial, I wouldn't have known who The Turtles were. I saw them when I was 11, in 1991, and I knew that song. I think the commercial was from 1987
