the reason that Marvel Vs Capcom 3 has so many less characters is that they wanted each character to play as different as possible so they felt unique, so that's why I don't mind.
One of my favorite video games is a superhero game, 'InFamous' and 'InFamous2' are excellent. I think that trying to build a game on existing superheros/villains is almost always doomed to fail. Game makers must follow the cardinal rule of 'balance' but in comics it is the imbalance that keeps things interesting.
Awesome to hear your input on this issue. I hope for the day that there is a good Superman game. I played the Captain America movie tie in game and it plays like a half rate Arkham Asylum. I found all the Riddler trophies. It helps to interrogate all of the accomplices to find the locations on the map.
The Riddler Trophies in Arkham City annoyed me quite a bit. Being a HUGE Batman fanboy I GOT ALL OF THEM in the time frame of like, 2-3 weeks. You actually take down the Riddler before collecting all of them but then you get tonted by loading screens telling you to "Collect them all". I did. And what was my grand reward for completing every side mission and Riddler Trophy in Arkham City? A loading screen that says "Arkham City sight secured and ready for shutdown. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
I think a superhero game generally needs a superhero that can deal with any situation. A quick example would be someone who can fight both in close range and long range: Spider-man, Batman, Cole Mcgrath from InFamous. You can never make a game about Cyclops or Captain Atom because they'd be screwed in close range. As a player, the character should make you feel competent in all areas, not just one, which is why Spiderman and Batman are such popular videogame characters.
Did you guys hear Rocksteady is planning to tackle Ninja Turtles for their next game?! Awesome! Especially since there is a character named Rocksteady in Ninja Turtles lol
I wonder if Rocksteady will ever make another superhero game aside from the Batman ones... personally I would love to see them make an X-Men game or a Thor game
They should make an avengers beatem up. They should take their time with it of course but i think it would work much more than the usual movie tie in game (even though i'm pretty sure there isn't going to be a video game tie in for it)
With movie tie-ins lack of time really can't be over-stated.
From what I understand it takes at least a couple years to build a basic game from the ground up and movie games (because they have to wait for concept art, an early script draft, etc. to get started and are saddled with a release date that's out of their control) get maybe half or three-quarters of that time to produce a game.
It's funny. In the span of a month last year my two favourite superhero franchises got games. Arkham City and X-Men Destiny. And they prove your guys points. Carey may have wrote the script for destiny and the story had a lot of promise but after a while the game play was monotonous and really reminded me of a basic PS1 or 2 game with a facelift. The voice acting other than the mains was pretty awful. I really think if bioware or besware made a superhero RPG it would be amazing. A shame really.
Oh, Cap. On the TMNT topic. It's rumoured that Rocksteady's next game will be s TMNT game. I think that's pretty cool BUT I want a Superman game, a good one!
I always liked the two SpiderMan games on the playstation and I mean Spiderman and Spiderman 2: Enter Electro. Those two games were kick ass. I think there are so man bad superhero games cause you're getting people who aren't fans to make it so you're being told 'this is what we think Superman is like' and they're wrong. Rocksteady knows what to do and, as proven with the Arkham series, they gave people what they wanted.
There have been a few decent Batman games before Arkham Asylum, these would include Batman Vengeance (which also has a very good storyline IMO) and how could I not forget the all so awesome Lego Batman game.
BTW my last comment wasn't trying to trash Batman because I love the character, movies (newest 2, I honestly hated all of the films before Begins) and games. But I just had to say that because of all the fanboys in the world ( not talking about you CL). I know you've seen the people that say "Batman vs. anyone, Batman wins"
You say that everything is trying to copy Batman, but I think that Batman is trying to copy alot, too. Batman Begins' ending seemed to be copying Spider-man 2's ending. Also TDK's scene where Joker sent Batman on a mission to either save the woman he loved or the person that could save the city seemed similar to where Green Goblin gives Peter the choice to save MJ or innocent children; and Batman failed on both missions.
@goodfellas1001 I don't see how the Begins ending was anything like Spider-Man 2's ending. Plus, the script for the movie was done before Spider-Man 2 came out in theatres.
Being given the choice to pick which person to save has been done so many times before Spider-Man 2 even came out. Batman Forever did it too.
@FireFistShikamaru I was talking about the train fight scenes, maybe it was just a coincidence that they both had one and came out a year later. But honestly the Spider-man action scene was much better.
@goodfellas1001 Those train fight scenes were completely different though and the events were different too. The only thing they have in common is that both occured on a train.
@FireFistShikamaru I just think it's stupid everyone comparing every superhero movie to TDK. I actually heard someone say Wolverine Origins was copying TDK because it was trying to be dark. And I replied how Wolverine is a much darker character that what that film made him.
I kinda want too much in games. Like Star Wars Force Unleashed, where you get a lightsaber, lightning, force grip and it still doesn't seem like you have enough powers, but in the movies that seems like more than enough.
There was a spiderman game for the original playstation that had Stann Lee narrating it. It had a fun linear story and the gameplay was rather nice as well. It was before Spiderman 2 and holds up better today than 2 does. If you haven't played it you should look into its great.
@aslan1121 yea man i remember thaT I have it for N64 and sega genesis, it was a very fun game and I loved seeing all my fav spiderman villains in it as well as black cat and others
The best Superhero video games based on actual Superheroes are Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, and the original Spider-Man made by Neversoft.
Now, for a superhero game based on non comic book heroes are inFamous and inFamous 2. Also, the Sly Cooper games which are heavily influenced by comics. These (8)games are the only good superhero video games out there.
@riotmaker345 I heard a rumor that Rocksteady and the Arkham City developers are working on a open-world Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, its called Mathatan Crisis.
...cap what about justice league heroes ? i never played it but it was like marvels ultimate alliance but using the justice league.it looked like a okay game
To make a good Superman game, you have to get Darkseid involved and have the sun blocked out, limiting how much of his power superman can use without burning out?
@Sydpart2 how take away the invulnerability power, then use a self regeneration thing connected to sunlight, if you are low on power and health, find a patch of sun to refill
@GameCreatorJJ perhaps, I'm just spit balling, but it's a believable way to de-power Superman without coming off as cheap. Worked for Kevin Smith's script, I thought the way he used this concept was believable and effective...
superman game NEEDS to be bethesda, you can equip 2 powers at once, laser vision, x ray vision, frost breath, as well as stronger forms of those, EX: master level heat vision is called Omega Beams. Free roam in a small kansas like place, can move in between metroplis and smallville, you can join teams and get missions from them, Justice League, Justice Society, the Outsiders, things like that. You have random boom tube appreances, like obilvion gates, and you have to shut down that specific tube
This video gave me the idea for another topic you guys can address. If Rocksteady decided to make a game based on another superhero, which superhero do you think would work? Basically, which superhero can Rocksteady make a good game out of.
@FireFistShikamaru I heard a rumor that Rocksteady and the Arkham City developers are working on a open-world Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, its called Mathatan Crisis.
@aslan1121 They sadly can't do Daredevil. It would be great if they could but Daredevil is a Marvel character and Marvel isn't owned by Warner Bros. They can only do characters that are owned by Warner Bros since Rocksteady is owned by Warner Bros. So only DC characters have a chance of getting a game (and maybe TMNT if Warner Bros owns the game rights; I'm not sure if they do).
If I made a Superman it would be similar to Shattered Dimensions, you could have like a Superman from the Golden Age, so you would just be jumping, it could even be based off the old Fleicher cartoons. There could be levels from the movies and comics and animated series too. The levels would progress through Superman history, so "leveling up" would be going into a new time when they gave him new powers.
@8comicbookman8 That's a great idea-- I'd really enjoy that. Or even just a Fleischer Superman game would be pretty neat! Push that train up that hill! Do it! Do it!
@8comicbookman8 I agree,we could play the game as a very young Clark Kent(like in Smallville) and learn everything to deal and handle his powers from the start.
The stronger he gets ,the more difficult the game could be,chose between right or wrong and use your powers for good or bad or something like that.
Games have a better Crap/Good ratio then movies, however when a game sucks it sucks hard on the other hand you get alot og good or great games but real master pieces are still hard to come by, those are games that are gonna be remembered forever for one reason or another, Arkham Asylum is gonna be remembered as the game that really proved excellent super hero games can be made.
i think for a great superman game is that he should gets sucked into a different dimsension saving metropolis somehow, and he is in a kreptonite planet and through magic. He is able to surive in the environment, and he wouldn't be able to escape because of the atmosphere. Also as he destroying the creatures he learns information about where he is and there could be a blue sun or something that powers him down, and to escape he has to align the suns somehow. That would be an interesting game.
the reason that Marvel Vs Capcom 3 has so many less characters is that they wanted each character to play as different as possible so they felt unique, so that's why I don't mind.

Kratos is really powerful and he has some great game.
Hell, if Dragonball Z have several game, surely Superman can get a good game, they just need good game creators on the project.
