The reason Rev. King spoke against so vehemently the rich was because there was an extraordinary imbalance between superfluous wealth and abject poverty. The fact that there are so many poor in the "richest nation on earth" was appalling to him, and to me today. (continued)
The problem isn't so much the presence of poverty as it was the haughtiness and stinginess of the wealthy in the face of substandard conditions for millions of people. It is good for people to be rich, but if there are poor, they should be helped; it's more than just handouts. It's "teach a man to fish." That was not happening in his day. And to a degree still isn't happening now.
MLK has shared some very beautiful words and I thank him for that. Deep down inside, it has made me look at what is really important in life. We are all coming out of ignorance, and when we discover the vast number of roads a man can take, he can't bear that he is on the wrong road easily. To do so would be mean confessing that his time and efforts were wasted. Should that matter? Or should we understand that no matter how we got there, be greatful someone cared, and so long as we get there.
We all have pride in us and its easy to think we are special becaus we can't bear the thought of just being equal or average. The problem isn't so much the presence of poverty as it was the haughtiness and stinginess of the wealthy in the face of substandard conditions for millions of people. It is good for people to be rich, but if there are poor, they should be helped; it's more than just handouts. It's "teach a man to fish." That was not happening in his day. Yes but as we know close confidants often share the same philosophies and outlook and we know that MLK used prostitutes from the FBI tapes and the FBI also has his voice recorded in a room telling one of his security guards, "Come over here you big black mothafucker and let me suck that dick". The FBI tapes are cheduled to be released in the year 2027 so you will then discover I was 100% accurate if you live that long. MLK's wife Coretta had the FBI tapes sealed for 50 years because she knew they would destroy his reputation.
