Welker's Megatron voice really wouldn't fit this cold and calculating version of Megs, watch Transformers Prime, he voices Megatron there, and he's kind of amazing as that Megatron.
Starscream was the one who left him as a talking head for 50 years, also this Megatron really isn't that concerned with Optimus until near the end. <=P
From this clip alone I'll say this is the only other version of the Transformers family that actually FEELS like the G1's Transformer series and that I can ACCEPT as being TransformerLY.

I'm sorry, but how is Megatron punching Starscream, and then the key in his fist killing Starscream make this a "brutal" show?
@kosmo7895 Because he executed Starscream on the spot the first chance he got, instead of the parade of empty threats and off-screen reconciliations across two seasons (65 episodes) in G1. It's not so much the _method_ he used, it's the swift, immediate and decisive action. He didn't ask for explanations, he didn't give any opportunity for excuses, apologies or begging for forgiveness, nor did he tip his hand to give Starscream an chance to escape.

You can never go wrong with Frank Welker as Megatron (unless it's for the Michael Bay films since that version of Megatron doesn't look like Megatron at all. not even the slightest). He is the original Megatron after all. But Corey Burton did an ok job as Megatron in this. His style certainly brought out how cold, ruthless, and brutal Megatron really is. Plus he was the original voice of Shockwave and returned to voice Shockwave in this as well.
The original series was the best including the Transformer Animated movie in the 1980's. I didn't care for any other the other transformers cartoons that came afterwords.
@Astraldragon1 Might I suggest taking a look at the Emmy Award winning "Transformers: Prime". It combines some elements of G1 with movie-quality CGI, a backstory based in the "War for Cybertron" game, and the original voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron, while avoiding some of G1's problems, such as continuity errors and lack of character development.
personally me still prefers Animated to Prime. Prime's...okay. But the pacing is way too slow and it just seems like a much less lively series than Animated was.
@Stonewall0513 Turning grey isn't definitive; G1 Wheeljack and Windcharger didn't fade out (which people often forget about), nor did Alpha Trion's body once he was absorbed into Vector Sigma.
All we know is the AllSpark key extinguished his spark, then an AllSpark fragment brought him back.
Honestly you can't really compare this to the 80's series its like a completely different approach. Not one that I like but enough people do to let it be accepted. So I can't hate something just because I don't like it but I can honestly say that this is my least favorite TF show. Id say my list is:

Wow, some of the worst character designs I've ever seen on an animated show. Sort of totally thrown the original premise down the bog- ie transforming.
But even if they're going with more human figures with no mechanical design and no relationship to their other forms, they still look ridiculous.
Hopefully the stories are better than those in the original series, although, that wouldn't be too hard to achieve.

I hated this show, and yes, i watched ALL episodes, bad animation, bad dialog, bad attempts at character development (putting megatron behind the scenes in the first season was a good movie though) and bad attempts at paying homage to G1 really dragged it down for me. worst series. Transformers Prime however, is BRILLIANT.

@Terrydinosaurking No, he's dead. The whole point of it was the homage to G1 Starscream's ghost thing. Just being injured doesn't achieve that. And if he wasn't dead the first time, he was dead the second, third, fourth and fifth times Megatron killed him. The only reason he's walking around later is the AllSpark fragment in his head. When Prowl and Jazz pull the fragment out, he drops to the ground dead, not injured.

@SaintsBro217 You seem to be under the misconception that anybody who either watched or liked G1 couldn't possibly like TFA. Or that people who do like TFA mustn't have watched G1. Some of TFA's biggest fans are long-time Transformers fans, back to G1. I suggest you actually look into this, because it frequently comes just after BW in best/fave lists.

G2 doesn't have a cartoon it was a rehash of G1 with added effects, the unicron trilogy(armada cybertron and energon) was alright I guess if your into all the anime stuff like announcing their attacks. Beast Wars I still to this day say is the best series out of all the cartoons for it's great character developement,storyline,atmosphere,animation,music and kickass action scenes though Prime is a very close second best

@AeonMagnus Kids nowadays have a completely different point of view of what a good cartoon show is, and yes I've seen a more than a 64 clip show, this sort of "transformers" is focused on an age group around 5-10 years old kids. Moreover, "lack of interest" I'm not quite sure... marketing says something different, in terms of sales such as: dvds, blu-rays, action figures, etc... all in all that is what those companies target for.
@raulyilio2 When I say "lack of interest", i mean it literally. Generation 2 faded out in the early 90s due to low/slow sales and Transformers went nowhere for 18 months after that. It was only Beast Wars that saved the franchise - originally the word "Transformers" was displayed as a very small subtitle because they didn't want it to have the stigma of a line that sort of died off. Transformers has not gone away since.
BTW, Animated is not focussed on 5-10 year olds. You said yourself that tastes are different; while your assessment is that it's for that bracket, that's based on _your_ tastes. 5-10 year olds are not going to understand, let alone appreciate, the 25-year old G1 references that are littered throughout the series.

this show catered to the Gee-Wunners like nobody's business. nearly all of the characters are updated versions of characters from the 80's, even those random bots from the crowd scenes on Cybertron. the inclusion of Sentinel Prime is another shout-out to G1, along with Starscream's personality, and his clones being based on the "seekers", like Skywarp, and keeping design shout-outs like Ratchet and Ironhide having the same "protoform" is just more evidence of this.

@Repunsel11 Color is not the deciding factor. Being dead is, which is borne out by the montage of Megatron repeatedly executing Starscream in "Mission Accomplished" and the removal of the AllSpark fragment at the conclusion of "Endgame". With the AllSpark removed, he's dead, not unconscious.
For those saying this show fails, allow me to direct you to a Transformers series that sucks ALOT WORSE THAN THIS ONE! Transformers ENERGON! Terrible cg-i transformers, derp-herp facial expression, bad plot, confused character names, bad dubbing, earth car transformers FLYING through space, confused character development, and sub-plots that lead absolutly NOWHERE! Go watch it and stop seeing everything through your damn nostalgia-goggles. This show is decent.

Among other things Megatron's Osprey mode has the benefit of clearly indicating which end is which (and his robot mode resembles Super Megatron) and the toy being in scale with Optimus. The Cybertron-mode toy is... less clear.

I agree. Michael Bay did a piss poor job depicting some of the characters such as Megatron and Starscream. Megatron is supposed to be a brutal, ruthless, highly intelligent, and cunning military general. A master tactician. But Michael Bay just made him a ravenous, clumsy, and typical bloodthirsty alien who seems to enjoy playing second fiddle to others. At least they got Starscream's classic cowardly ass kissing right. I just wish we would have seen his traitorous and greedy side.

I hated this show, and yes, i watched ALL episodes, bad animation, bad dialog, bad attempts at character development (putting megatron behind the scenes in the first season was a good movie though) and bad attempts at paying homage to G1 really dragged it down for me. worst series. Transformers Prime however, is BRILLIANT.

@Terrydinosaurking No, he's dead. The whole point of it was the homage to G1 Starscream's ghost thing. Just being injured doesn't achieve that. And if he wasn't dead the first time, he was dead the second, third, fourth and fifth times Megatron killed him. The only reason he's walking around later is the AllSpark fragment in his head. When Prowl and Jazz pull the fragment out, he drops to the ground dead, not injured.

@SaintsBro217 You seem to be under the misconception that anybody who either watched or liked G1 couldn't possibly like TFA. Or that people who do like TFA mustn't have watched G1. Some of TFA's biggest fans are long-time Transformers fans, back to G1. I suggest you actually look into this, because it frequently comes just after BW in best/fave lists.
BTW, G1 was flawed. That's not even opinion, it's fact (B.O.T. anyone?). Angry Archer isn't any more ridiculous than Dr Archeville.

Beast Wars I still to this day say is the best series out of all the cartoons for it's great character developement,storyline,atmosphere,animation,music and kickass action scenes though Prime is a very close second best

BTW, the rhetoric about "killing" Transformers is just patently ridiculous. The only thing that has _ever_ almost killed Transformers is the complete lack of interest in the early 90s.

Moreover, "lack of interest" I'm not quite sure... marketing says something different, in terms of sales such as: dvds, blu-rays, action figures, etc... all in all that is what those companies target for.

@raulyilio2 When I say "lack of interest", i mean it literally. Generation 2 faded out in the early 90s due to low/slow sales and Transformers went nowhere for 18 months after that. It was only Beast Wars that saved the franchise - originally the word "Transformers" was displayed as a very small subtitle because they didn't want it to have the stigma of a line that sort of died off. Transformers has not gone away since.

this show catered to the Gee-Wunners like nobody's business. nearly all of the characters are updated versions of characters from the 80's, even those random bots from the crowd scenes on Cybertron. the inclusion of Sentinel Prime is another shout-out to G1, along with Starscream's personality, and his clones being based on the "seekers", like Skywarp, and keeping design shout-outs like Ratchet and Ironhide having the same "protoform" is just more evidence of this.

@Repunsel11 Color is not the deciding factor. Being dead is, which is borne out by the montage of Megatron repeatedly executing Starscream in "Mission Accomplished" and the removal of the AllSpark fragment at the conclusion of "Endgame". With the AllSpark removed, he's dead, not unconscious.

@Soundwave965 He didn't pick it. It just happened as the AllSpark Key repaired his badly damaged body and attached his head. He would have to scan a Cybertronian vehicle to get a Cybertronian mode. DOTM Megatron should also be above hiding himself, yet took an Earth mode,
Among other things Megatron's Osprey mode has the benefit of clearly indicating which end is which (and his robot mode resembles Super Megatron) and the toy being in scale with Optimus. The Cybertron-mode toy is... less clear.

I agree. Michael Bay did a piss poor job depicting some of the characters such as Megatron and Starscream. Megatron is supposed to be a brutal, ruthless, highly intelligent, and cunning military general. A master tactician. But Michael Bay just made him a ravenous, clumsy, and typical bloodthirsty alien who seems to enjoy playing second fiddle to others. At least they got Starscream's classic cowardly ass kissing right. I just wish we would have seen his traitorous and greedy side.
