they are using drums that originated in the middle east, the tapan or davul. still used in the southern balkans. definitely not used in northern/eastern or western music though. they used tabors, western medieval music doesn't use complex rhythms. it was mainly in duple or 6/8 time.
@mustafasahin1981 it is a Balkan tradition, of course, most of the balkans was ruled by the Ottomans for 500 years. and the gypsies and turks introduced bellydancing, while the ethnic people were doing ring dances until about 50 years ago.
