'66 Notre Dame team best team ever? Uh...no. Not only did they play no one in a bowl game, they didn't even win all their regular season games. I remember watching their 10-10 tie with Michigan State--a game in which the Irish had a chance to go for the win but played conservative to assure themselves of the tie! Not representative of a "best team ever."

That 66 Irish team was a great one, but the perfect game that season to determine any National Championship would have been the Alabama Crimson Tide and ND Irish.Bama went on to pound Nebraska in a Bowl game that season. As for the Irish, as strange as this might sound, Notre Dame did not allow their teams to participate in post season Bowl games. Of course that would later change with the 1970 Cotton Bowl game.
