It's pretty obvious if you know anything about NY or NJ politics. Patterson is a complete disaster here in NY. Outside of NYC and some of Long Island, NY is a very republican state. It goes democratic in large elections because NYC and it's suburbs account for almost 70% of the population.
If the Repubs can run a moderate for governor against Patterson, the guy is a shoe in. So the democratic funders don't want to waste money on a loser like Patterson.

Anyway, i'm not going to disagree with you that some democrats have said that race is a factor in opposition to the health care bill, and it probably is--to a small minority. But to most there is legitimate reasons to be opposed to the bill, and i think that most democrats realize that. Just as most republicans aren't masterminds at insinuation. Most people are centrist, civil, and pragmatic.

The voters will decide but it is obvious that the governor doesn't have the support to win a primary and the man that should be his main challenge, Andrew Cuomo shouldn't have to risk being damaged by someone that has already been rejected by the voters of New York. Also the democrats don't have an Andrew Cuomo in New Jersey that is running a mile ahead in a primary poll and is running ahead of the republican in the general. Corzine will lose in New Jersey but just about any other dem would too.
