  • this looks delicious!

  • People it's better to die eating good things than to die eating trash. Our ancestors have been eating palm oil, palm oil we all know makes gives stews certain great taste so please leave my palm oil alone and stop disgracing it.

  • im going to make an okra and lintel soup.

  • @datzfast to this soup i will add one teaspoon of butter so the fat soluble vitamins that survived cooking can be absorbed. without the butter they are gone out my tail pipe.

  • I heard palm oil is bad for you. Is this true?

  • @DJLunasf Palm oil is rich with nutrition but is a saturated fat & semi-hard at room temperature. There have been reports that saturated fat can have negative effect on the body's cholesterol level & lead to heart disease. There have also been contradicting reports that there is no sufficient evidence that palm oil, a saturated fat, promotes heart disease. However, it appears palm oil is not as negative as other saturated fats such as coconut oil, animal & dairy fats. Everything in moderation

  • @TheStilledPeace Your body NEEDS saturated fat. So you are right that it must be in moderation. Vegetable sat. fats are better than animal sat. fats.

  • @quitejaded No, vegetable saturated fats cause the human body to manufacture protective cholesterol because vegetable saturated fats are causing damage to the body. you are reading out dated sciece that can kill you. Animal fats are the safe fats.

  • love the music

  • This is not the Igbo way of making okra soup. I wish it were because it sure looked easy.

  • I thought some kind of vegetable (spinach?) is usually added.

  • FYI: Pam Oil is not good for your health. In due time, it can clog your arteries, which can eventually lead to a heart attck or some form of heart disease. Palm oil taste very good! It adds flavor to all stews but beware of the risk of such indulgence. Thank you.

  • @ama00010 PUHLEASE!!! Palm oil can never be compared to the damages of American cheese, fats, sugars, and junk foods will. Most of the time, its not even the soup but what you eat with it like red meats and the like. As for me I go chop am well well. We have been eating it for generations in Africa but never one case of western diseases- that is until we started eating Western foods! Thanks for caring tho

  • @dancenijas Look @ da bottm of a palm oil bottle @ rm temp. You'll c alot fat on the bottom, this is what it's like when it enters ur body & sits 4 awhile. I dey chop palmoil n soups all da time as well but it wasn't until I moved 2 the states again tht I realized tht it's dangerous. Did u know palm oil is used n soaps? My whole fam. dey stop using um. You 4got 2 mention tht n (West) Africa ppl dey die from heart attacks all the time & high bld pressure. Our ppl don't go 4 dr. all da time 2 c.

  • @ama00010 But da same goes 4 coconut and sm oda vege-derived oils. Even animal derived 1s like lard & margarine r all solid @ rm temp- if not worse. N den there r studies dat r showing that the liquid rm temp oils like canola is very dangerous, n dat olive oil is carcinogenic when heated to a high temp before cooking. I wld be more worried abt American cheeses & esp McDonalds food. Once ingested, they don't go anywhere 4 LIFE. As 4 hrt attck & high bp back hm, did we hav dem b4 colonialism?

  • @ama00010....I doubt it- maybe the fat rich ones who sat on their ass everyday to eat fufu and meat-filled soups. Bottom line is that refined foods and animal fats are far worse than vegetable-derived fats and proteins, and that is proven by science. I choose the lesser of the two evils.

  • @dancenijas so what are good oils to use? because my family does have a history of high blood pressure

  • @bsmoove386 I use extra virgin olive oil, but i make sure i don't heat up to a hi temp b4 cooking w/ it. 4 deep fry u can use veg or corn oil- anything that doesn't have canola. And then of course, my beloved palm oil haha. But honestly, i would worry more abt reducing the salt content in your food and drinking more water. All u need to do is drink 1 cup of water (20 oz Styrofoam cup) before you eat anything in the morning. Wait 30 mins and then have breakfast. Do the same for lunch and dinner.

  • I wish a ghanaian will post on youtube to show ppl how to REALLY COOK - ghanaians are the best cooks and have the best tasting food in west africa.

  • @simp1eone They are one of but not the best. Taste Francophone cooking and you'll know.

  • i usually cook the okro in the broth of the meat and it will give u a better taste

  • that's not calabar way though :-)...

  • Tried it. Loved it. Hope it's okay to use only fish for the meat.

  • Is the meat raw and it cooks in the soup? or is it precooked?

  • in this video i think it was precooked. and i think it should always be atleast roasted before being put into the soup

  • Comment removed

  • My mom doesnt always use palm oil because my dad isnt suppose to eat it so she makes a quick stew instead. Also I have never seen someone make okra soup like this; you use less ingredients than I do.

  • @chikaijeoma Fellow igbo girl, I concur. I'm sitting here scratching my head lol. Maybe this is the style from a different region or country.

  • qué rico!

  • is there any need to use palm oil ? or is essential??

  • @latinabonita22 - Palm oil is not necessary. I've eaten boiled okra soup without palm oil before. It has a more natural taste.

  • @doserics thankyou so much.

  • @doserics oh wow! it must hv bn really 'plain'

  • @latinabonita22 Idk what doserics is talking abt but in West African soups, palm oil is very much necessary. Its like the main ingredient for that signature traditional taste.

  • @latinabonita22 yes it is essential

  • Palm oil is fantastic- when I first saw it, I thought it was bbq sauce.

  • where do I get h e palm oil ?

  • @MsTia231

You should be able to find it in an African (mexican too maybe?) supermarket near you.

  • WHAT SEASONING DO U USE thankyou if u answer

  • Okra is a very healthy food.

  • what season you use

  • i make this all the time

    lol!!!!! i had some today!!

  • Hey! when the others recipes? Semovita? Agusi? Pepper Soup? Thanks!

  • hi where is it possbla to buy palm oil from in london ,and what seasoning is best ? is the meat cooked first before being added how long should u cook the dish for sorry for so many question love okra but never had it as a soup

  • Any place where africans live, shepherds bush, custom house, stratford, peckham etc. Yes pre cook the meat, if you want to add fish, the dried one is sturdy, if you use fresh fish, season then fry it and add it right at the end otherwise it will be over cooked and break up.

  • HI SIS!

Another thing that will give your okra soup a wonderful flavour, is fresh basil! That's how we cook it in Calabar. Add the basil last, when you've just taken the soup off the fire, don't cut it but just tear it up with your fingers...if you cut it up, all the flavour will be lost on your chopping board! Also fresh prawns make it really......Mmmm!!

    PEACE!!

  • i dont understand the deal with okrah...someone please enlighten me! ...some people say that it food for the witches and some say that it weakens evil/witches powers ....???

  • There are many ways to make okra soup. I know of another way. The meat comes before any other in my recipee. Okra is a vegetable and if overcooked its nutrients are lost. I put the okra last.

  • though i think what you made will still taste good.

  • I do not doubt it! African girls are artists in kitchen.

  • i can do better.

  • that aint how u make okra soup. wth

  • well that is how she makes it. what is with you?

  • true. I guess everybody cooks different.

  • Maybe I'm mistaken cause I'm half Nigerian and half white but that ain't how you make okra soup, that looks like shit.

  • Your comment shows you're also using half of your brain. You should use it fully to understand cultural diversity. Within the same country, sometimes, the same recipe varies. I invite you to share your okra soup recipe with us.

  • @SplookBlook typical trash talking african mentality with no sense of respect

  • @SplookBlook that was just an easy and quick way and okra soup may be diff where ever you go and who cares if you are half Nigerian and white lol so what.

  • No comments, I will just have to respect they way you cook your okra!

  • looking for a men to exchange delicios meals, u cook for me and i cook czech meals for you :DD

  • no problem! LOL

  • this dish aint just nigerian, its all round, most west african dishes are generally eaten by all other countries, very very nice dish,im from ghana i love this dish, eat it with banku, gari,or fufu.lol

  • this is not the nigerian okra soup recipe! then and again, it's not just a nigerian dish so its all good.

  • yeah dat's right, the whole process too is different from how Nigerians cook theirs, cos we don't start with okro first...

  • Yeah bella okra last so tht it doesn't lose it's consistency and nutrients

  • i know right??? this wayyyyy different...

  • @dancenijas Yes, you are right, lol. I was looking for a simple recipe myself because I do not have ingredients right now to make the nigerian okra soup, but I have a surplus of okra that needs to be eaten! I will try this recipe right now :) I do have palm oil left over.

  • @quitejaded lol. Let me know how it came out.

  • @dancenijas Nevermind! Someone made Egusi soup! I warmed my okra and added the egusi soup and salt! DELICIOUS!!

  • dont visit that website its all never ending pop ups that will crash your computer

  • black ppl add a lot of salt in thier cooking eg stews, sauces

  • lol, I don't think so... some people are very less tolerent to salt and some other like it to excess... I think it depends on everyone's biological specs

  • thank you all for your comments

  • I heard of butternut and have made it both soup and mashed but never heard of okra before. Looks GOOD! I'd use fish. I'll look for it next time I shop. Never used palm oil either.

  • Havent had it before but it looks yummy. I'm from east africa and we make ugali- with corn flour- is banku the same thing?

  • fyi, it's faster to use a mandolin to cut the okra. It's the way my mother has been doing it for over 20 years and it delivers evenly sliced okra. Also did you not use crayfish?

  • Hello, could someone please tell me the source of this happy music please?

  • this is an artist called Mory Kante from Mali (if i remind well)

  • yum

  • okra soup = best soup EVER!!

  • yummy

  • good food

  • i love okra soup... my favorite! Good music!

  • great video, can you do egusi please, & a fish dish. thanx for the video looks yummy lol
