@fatty1443 Oh yeah, I forgot how much he was a dictator, him and his more tact than Teddy Roosevelt, busting more trusts than Roosevelt, Enacting more progressive laws than Roosevelt, doing his best to stay out of conflicts, but realizing when things have gone too far.
Wilson was eccentric and loyal to his Southern heritage when it came to civil, though he was quite liberal compared to many of the other Southern politicians of his day. Theodore Roosevelt thought of him as a "drug-store clerk" and Teddy was proven to be right. Wilson mishandled World War I by only sending the US military as far as the Ardennes Forest in France and foolishly supported corrupt Mexican president Venustiano Carranza
Billy Hughs, the WW1 Australian Prime Minister, described Wilson as a 'pestiferous varmint'. He told Wilson at Versailles, 'I speak for 60,000 dead. How many do you speak for?'. Wilson refused to answer.
So much for terrible British Empire oppression, yankies. Members of our empire despised America and their arrogant behaviour during the WW1 peace talks. You behaved disgustingly and Wilson should have been jailed for his arrogance.
@hunarf You do realize that the Income Tax WAS designed to replace a tariff that was long worth being destroyed? Oh and he helped break up monopolies, so so much.
Well, I guess it's also horrible that he also supported so many laws that redistributed wealth to the lower classes so as to prevent wage slavery.
@MrSporitus he was a war monger and his sins hide through the pages of history so someone like yourself can say well he wasn't all that bad. There are people like you who praise Stalin in Russia too.
@MrSporitus Money in armaments and contracts. History makes people forget that our presidents have been serving international interests instead of our own for at least 150 years. Unlike you I try to remember history from the people who were there and not biased and second hand accounts favoring warmongers the likes of his ilk.
@Polaris688 Yes, he was a 100% cunt, because he had the arrogance and sheer nerve to conduct peace talks with Wilhelm without inviting France and Britain. For that reason, he is a cunt. But I was wondering why he is hated by his fellow Americans.
@wrestlingbrian123 this guy essentially created terms that started World War 2 and you're glorifying him for everything he did. He's nothing more than a shit stain on the U.S. presidency list.
@Commadoss You or i have no right to judge Woodrow Wilson or any president because neither of us been president of the united states so i will just leave it at that.
@wrestlingbrian123 I have a right to form my own opinion of him, he will be remembered for his actions but I choose to see him as a shit stain on the U.S.. You may have different views and that's cool, just don't go imposing your ideas onto others.
All great American Presidents have been hated by the Public and/or Congress. Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, Richard Nixon....eventually, they end up being used as an example of a good Presidency 100 years later.
Wilson, was undoubtedly, one of the smartest if not the smartest President in American History.
@jojopuppyfish Yeah, it's impossible for me to consider him "great" for that very reason, although I applaud his instatement of the income tax and the attempt at the League of Nations...but he took us backwards away from Reconstruction and was an avowed KKK sympathizer
@hatchbx And the weird thing was, he was progressive towards jews. It was a period of high anti-semitism and yet against public criticism, he put Brandeis on the Supreme Court (the first jew ever to sit on the bench)
FTC, like you said League of Nations, Federal Reserve, etc.
@hatchbx That was unfortunate and a rather backwards opinion he had of race. Nevertheless, what I say is meant to compliment his intellectual capacity not praise his treatment of minority groups. Keep in mind that I made a mentioning of his smarts not his greatness. The greatest President is still up for grabs.
@ToaJoe Why is any president unpopular among Americans? It's usually the congress that does all the bullshittin around, yet any one of em are more easily forgotten
"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is privately concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated, governments in the civilized world
no longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and the duress of small groups of dominant men." - Woodrow Wilson, reflecting on passage of the Federal Reserve Act
Oh look, its Woodrow Wilson. The president that has been dead for almost 90 years and the imbeciles that cant even find Iraq on a map are using to show a fake superior knowledge of history by blaming him for every single bad thing that happens in the world.
He was a racist anglo bastard who conspired with Churchill to put Lusitania there so they can have an excuse to go to war. Shame shame for using civilian ship to smuggle weapons to Britain.
@ss90ss444 Not only that: he signed the act that created the Federal Reserve, he signed the first drug prohibition laws, he signed the first income tax laws, and it was under him that the states got the right to elect senators stripped away. He's clearly the worst president in history.
Treaty of Trianon WASN'T based on democratic referendums(general equal&secret ballots)The"national councils"were elected suspiciously-way,without any local documentations.Czechs don't trust in Slovaks(because very few slovaks joined/supported the"czechoslovak"army against Hungarians(Slovaks were 48%).Romanian politicians didn't trust in Transylvanian romanians, perhabs they didn't want to join to backward poor romania(romanians were 53% in Transylvania).Serbs were minority(22%)in Southern Hungary
I think Woodrow was his own worst enemy. He came in with a lot of idea's and passed a lot of legislation but he really became quite arrogant and somewhat mad towards the end. I think he showed great restrain from entering WW1 and then entered when his hand was forced by the Germans but not finishing the war and forming the league of nations in an effective way because he didn't want the Republicans to have any say really screwed things up. His last year in office was plagued with chaos.
The amazing thing about this film is how "modern" it looks. Wilson's hairstyle, his dress, his office (except for the telephone), the file cabinets--- most of this could have been filmed yesterday and not been too out of place. Only the telephone and the grazing sheep give a clue as to the era when this took place..
@pqwilrj Who do you think invented the principle of spreading "democracy" through the barrel of a gun? It was... Wilson. Modern day leftists should hate this racist warmonger. Read Gore Vidal's work on him.

Sheep on the lawn ..humm - are they just taking the p*ss?? Do they really think we are that stupid not to notice?? Deliberate - the TPTB love to rub our faces in it - it lets them get their jollies off....... Peace :)
Could not agree more, right up there with Jimmy Carter for me. The Federal Reserve Act and the public dissapproval of the League of Nations are very reflective of his time in office.
Well, this was the president of the "Creel Comite", the first propaganda office on USA, whose convinced citizens that was against the First World Wide War, that it was a good idea to join the batlle so... yes, I think it actually can be a very good symbol of the people outside...
Explain to me exactly why Woodrow Wilson was a Fascist. You can't can you, his liberty bonds were a great thing, he handled World War One in a great way, and he through that Socialist agitator Eugene V. Debs in jail where he belonged. Wilson kept a firm hand on this nation. He fought monopolism like TR and Taft did he was not the monster you make him out to be. He was a devoted Christian and kept us on the Gold Standard and did not listen to the Bryan's of his party. The only thing he did that
I disagree with was establish the Income Tax and establish the Federal Reserve other than that he was a good president. My two favorite decisions he made were Liberty Bonds, and his Anti Trust Act. He also lowered tariffs for the first time in a long time. He is not the epitome of conservatism. He made two horrible decisions yes (the Fed and the income tax in my view are a bad thing), but he guided us through WW, he along with McKinley and TR are the 3 biggest reason America is a world power.
Epitome of conservatism? Was that your caveat? You know he was a democrat, yes? His ilk considered themselves liberal fascists, Moodester is correct. This was before fascists were attributed to mass murder, of course. Fascism is holding the state higher than the individual, and wilson did that in spades. He may have started the wave of government intervention in the economy that is now a tsunami of hardships. Handled WW1 great? We should have not been involved in WW1, at all. He got...
He got reelected by promising we wouldn't join the silly europeans in their stupid war, (that and keeping down the black vote, common for democrats of the time) then went ahead and did it anyway. Hated separation of powers, hated individual rights, hated small government. Made a propaganda department, made a secret police, took nearly infinite control of the economy, made criticizing the government illegal, stabbed Germany, Japan, and Russia in the back, setting in motion every big war since.
Intellectual capacity does not equal knowledge. You not knowing enough about Wilson to know he shouldn't be on your list of favorite presidents, does not make you dumb, it makes you uneducated (but compared to other 17 year olds, you may be above par- this is an observation, not a personal insult). You deciding to ad hominem and dismiss all libertarians though, might be a more serious flaw. BTW I'm really an objectivist, big L libertarians don't have a consistent philosophy.
Furthermore Moodster didn't even spell Fascist correctly. Are you advocating the state not intervening in the economy at all? You realize we never would have had the pure food and drug act if we followed that line of thinking. We would have product safety measures.
You're right, but this is youtube... I can forgive that much easier than I can forgive ignorant (again, not about intelligence, and not meant as an insult) championing of Woodrow freakin' Wilson.
Yes, I am advocating that, and there would be no need for that act if the govt was doing what IS its job, protecting rights against force and fraud. Someone hurting another through a lie about a drug is no different than someone poisoning your wine. Arrest them. Culpable negligence.
Alright you have my interest private message me. I have read several Ayn Rand books actually. I agree with some of it, personal responsibility, worrying about yourself, personal initiative, etc. However I have a few questions about Objectivism. I have read the Virtue of Selfishness and The New Intellectual.
Wilson was a tidy man and the first President who could type. Perhaps the last President who could type, too. I wonder what he thought of the sheep on his lawn? He was also, after Jimmy Carter, the most devout (Christian) President we have had. Everything else about him is controversial, and no suprise.
how is it his fault that we have money troubles. He instituted women's suffrage buddy..and he also put in a lot important pieces of legislation that actually HELPED the working man.he was the guy who actually supported small businesses and wanted to fragment corrupt monopolies that took away from the working man.if you're talking about WWI..i'd like to see you keep a nation out of an inevitable war..you can't just go around and call historical figures a fuck up without solid reasoning
Wilson among other things was a devote protestant as much as he was a segragationist. Like many Southern Democrats at the time, he favored segragation. For a progressive Deomcrat, he was a person of fault in that respect. For such a brilliant man and big ideas he like many presidents had their pros and cons
he inststuted womens suffrage, but it took him a long time. he payed no attention to suffragettes picketing outside the whitehouse, and he also was a segregationist.
it is his fault... he signed the Federal Reserve Act into effect, you just explained a lot of things that he did that were GOOD but government intervention (especially with money) AS YOU SEE NOW, isn't good for the working man, Wilson was a key figure that that was one of the roots of ditching the gold backed dollar and that came and bite us in the great depression, past recessions, and todays recession/depression
I love how people bash Woodrow Wilson, as though they have a Doctorate in American History. You should know; that, watching a Youtube documentary and reading a wikipedia article doesn't make you a know-it-all.
Yeah, libruls are "facists" when they "make" other Americans do stuff like get rid of institutionalized segregation and provide health care for the poor.
These sheep represent the idiotic Americans who elected this fool; he set us on a course for which we are still suffering, and his spiritual children are the Clintons and the Bushes.
At 0:23, the light goes out at Wilson's desk. The rest of the clip is Wilson trying to find out why the power's gone out. "Damn it, I told you the check is in the mail! I'm the President! I can't work in the dark!"
When the power company won't cooperate, he signs an executive order seizing the company's property.
2:39: "I said to them, 'You fuck wit Woody, you get fucked.'"
2:46: The President works on papers late at night, unaware that a gang of power co. hoods have come to ambush him.
@fishhead06 Mr. President, those aren't sheep, they're just regular Democrats- fools that will follow liars and misfits. By the way, how's Frank Roosevelt doing? He is another megamillionaire who wants to lead the poor!

The time was World War 1 and the White House was conserving on manpower for the war effort and to provide a needed item for the military.

The ships in his lawn are the republicans...LOL

Wilson was a tidy man and the first President who could type. Perhaps the last President who could type, too. I wonder what he thought of the sheep on his lawn? He was also, after Jimmy Carter, the most devout (Christian) President we have had. Everything else about him is controversial, and no suprise.

wilson is the reason why we've had money troubles still to this day he was a complete utter fuck up.
futuresoldier897 3 years ago
how is it his fault that we have money troubles.

For such a brilliant man and big ideas he like many presidents had their pros and cons
blankerism 3 years ago
he inststuted womens suffrage, but it took him a long time. he payed no attention to suffragettes picketing outside the whitehouse, and he also was a segregationist.
bharm420 2 years ago
it is his fault... he signed the Federal Reserve Act into effect, you just explained a lot of things that he did that were GOOD but government intervention (especially with money) AS YOU SEE NOW, isn't good for the working man, Wilson was a key figure that that was one of the roots of ditching the gold backed dollar and that came and bite us in the great depression, past recessions, and todays recession/depression

a social safety net isnt good for the working man?

I love how people bash Woodrow Wilson, as though they have a Doctorate in American History. You should know; that, watching a Youtube documentary and reading a wikipedia article doesn't make you a know-it-all.

Wilson has an interesting fascist history. You can read about it in Liberal Facism, by Johan Goldberg.
mdbarnes21 3 years ago
Yeah, libruls are "facists" when they "make" other Americans do stuff like get rid of institutionalized segregation and provide health care for the poor.

These sheep represent the idiotic Americans who elected this fool; he set us on a course for which we are still suffering, and his spiritual children are the Clintons and the Bushes.
billyguns2 3 years ago 6
Teddy Roosevelt's fault for entering the 1912 election as a third party candidate therefore splitting votes of Taft and Wilson

Wilson (on phone): "Hello, hello? SPCA? There's a bunch of fucking sheep in my yard!"
