  • very clever

  • This is a "threatening" video. =p

  • thank you guy

  • Comment removed

  • oh boy, thanks from The Netherlands!!!I'm hoping to try this my self, grtz kim and thanks for sharing !!!!!

  • i only paid 75 for my shift 3 projector

  • i want the music!!

  • Bro... You are THE MAN!!!! I'm gonna try this dude!

  • This video went viral on Korea, North

  • I have tried many times to build a projection unit and this i must say is the best idea i have seen.

  • lets see, "without shelling hundreds of pounds", well, that projector you are using is expensive, plus the cost of a cheap lcd should be around 80 pounds, that is no bargain

  • @RETRONGAMES79 You can get defective LCD displays for something like 10 bucks, broken PSU or other stuff but with a working LCD. A second hand fully functional LCD is around 30 pounds or less. And it doesn't matter how much the projector is, this is for those who already have it, I'm not going to buy it if I don't have it or don't need it, but if I have one and it's just collecting dust, I might as well use it.... u know what I mean ?

  • Nize ...

  • 3:10 is this thing 3D?? omg XD

  • the last part where you walked into the screen and smiled was kind of awkward,

    great video !!! (:

  • can one take a broken lcd screen

  • bez taken a screen then I can ride as Staba nates eatil working?

  • could someone do this with a newer LCD TV/monitor? I have a Element HDTV 19".

i'm asking because i'd like to hook up a vcr (and other things, like video games) in which case older monitors don't have the ports.

  • ys ok, but no clarity dear...just like crystal effect..

  • What about the fan? how can you connect it??

  • @timguyperson It's clear you've never heard of eBay.

  • 0:19 all u need is a over head projector ... wait arnt i here to make a projector?

  • AWESOME!!!! This gonna be my summer project(or) :)

  • brilliant!!!

  • hmmm...for the price of an LED screen and a projector

i think I can just get an LED projector for a cheaper price....

  • haha

    3:05 is creepy

  • great video!

  • what if I do it with a 7 inch screen?

  • That's awesome. I take it the fan helps to keep the screen cool.

  • Why didnt i think of that.... Wonderfully Simple if a bit bulky :)

  • @timguyperson Maybe I'm mistaken, but from what I can tell if you have a projector and an overhead projector that are the same lumens, the projector will be monstrously more expensive than the overhead. I think this does save money, especially if you already have the parts.

  • @timguyperson lol exactly, i was like "fuck this" and i bought a projector new lol.

  • freakin sweet

  • Can i connect this to my pc and play games?

  • @Pilotbrate6435 im pretty sure you can, all your doing is getting the screen out off its case, all the wiring is still there.

  • Asum i want to play san andreas on my computer like that

  • Question : Do you enjoy anal or masturbating over star trek?

  • Your still using an overhead projector. Who has one of those laying around? Dumbass!

  • @chuckbyf1 :I go away

  • @miskitty54341 Yeah, I agree. Go away.

  • @miskitty54341 old man :I

  • @chuckbyf1

My wife does because she is a teaher. Get a life idiot!

BTW, nice vid. I would try and copy this buy im sure the wife wont let me mess with her overhead

  • i don't get what input does it take? From the screen? or from the overhead projector?

  • Can someone link me to some more detailed instructions on this?

  • nice

  • Brilliant!

  • nice work dude....!!!

  • It's a good idea and concept but the only problem *and this is why i would buy a real htp* is the sound. That thing was loud! I could hear the fans over the sound system, and you can't just eliminate them because those projectors get extreamly hot

  • Great video, I plan on making myself one, and watch Star Trek on it.

  • @ThomasHagan13 AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

  • If you guys wanna see how to make a projector using just a box and a magnifying glass, along with a double iPod touch giveaway and ipad 2 information click on my username.

  • "Cheap way of having a cinema in your from room! without shelling out hundreds of pounds!" What if I want to shell out hundreds of pounds, since most of us are overweight. SHEESH

  • @SBxxxStudios umm pounds are money

  • @MoskowFreak1111 I was joking.

  • geat video i'l try this when i can get hold of an o,h,p

  • Star Trek.... I'd be bumpin Porn... Larger than life! - btw, might want to mention that you used an OLD lcd. newer models have more fragile ribbon cables connected to the panel and are not easily disassembled.... thought I'd share.

  • that cool

  • DIY Projector kicks ass! I just wanna play Mass Effect 2 on it.

  • @MrVariable063 imma use it in my virtual riality project, and play cod on it xxD

  • @MrVariable063 I was literally JUST playing Mass Effect 2 on a..... big fancy projector. But it was't mine, and I wanted my own. I looked this up- and guess what! somebody else with the same idea!

  • @cjsawesome1 Hell yeah! I finally get to play ME 2 using my DIY OHP. A bit dark, but it was awesome seeing Shepard kicking ass, that huge on the wall! Building the DIY was really fun though.

  • Im sorry to say this but for $290 you can get a Mitsubishi HC1500 on ebay with a brand new bub. 720p, HD resolution, HDMI input, and just a great all around projector for home theater. This probably cost you twice that.

I know it's just for fun but I don't want people to think that this is the way to go for cheap home entertainment. Under no circumstance is this ever a good option other than just for fun.

  • @wayneready I owned one of those.Piece of garbage HD my ass it also broke 2 months later. Then i returned it and a month later that one broke.

  • @wayneready This would've been a good option back then... check the upload date and please tell me if you have any idea how expensive they were... I still think it's a good option if you want to save money and just have something funtional... these old projectors can be found anywhere for as much as 30 or 40 USD, I've seen them... and you could go for an old LCD , etc.. still is less than those $290 of wich you're talking about...

  • @wayneready You think this cost several hundred dollars? Those projectors cost maybe 40$ used and older lcd screens are being thrown out. I could do this project for less then 60$ with no issues, and I could likely get it as low as 30$.

I don't think this is the best option but it does work and that is all that really matters.

  • Man cave approved

  • will broken laptop's lcd panel work but it isn't broken only the motherboard is?

  • @varpppisss

any display that isn't damaged will work. BUT you will need to figure out how to connect that display to pc or some video player.

  • YOU ROCK :)

  • which resolution and type is the lcd screen?

  • Im finishing my lg hs201 project soon. I love that pj to death.

  • Could You Do This With An HD Monitor And Then It'd Be An HD Projector?

  • @hy5d3

Absolutely. That's what am about to do.

Go 4 it man. Cheers!!! :)

  • nice work hickyxsi. cool video.

I made one of these myself.

Did you have a problem with the LCD being too big for the projector? I miss the sides of the screen, which is where the start bar is! How did you fix this?

  • DOWN IN FRONT!!!!

  • I see my next project. A projector from the store is out of my reach but I have all the parts for this.

Should look nice on the side of my barn.

  • do you have to take the screen completely apart, cant you just remove the stand and thats it

  • @Badlad220 The screen needs to be see-through, so you have to remove it from the case AND remove the backlight to just have the semi-transperand LCD

  • i have 100 videos of diferent diy projectors

  • Nice work!!!

  • i love how it would be startrek playing. thanks dude will try it out, was just about to buy one!

  • Good god thats awesome

  • how is it bright enough?

  • Bravo man

  • what is this song ?

  • watched this on Fri. bought OHP on Sat 185 USD.

Came home and ripped off my 14" lCD monitor. discarded the original lcd screen lamp. re attached the data cable to the LCD screen from the CPU.

I placed the LCD 1 cm high on the OHP top. covered up the open electrical connections and switched it on.

    WOW.

last night I attached 8 w speakers. and watched SPARTACUS 9. (whore) once again .

No Sir. it was better than many MM Projectors.

  • Only a couple of things to say and that is , " Do you really need all the lighting that is built into the projector , as a screen has a self luminating screen " and " Does the projector need to be switched on in the first place , mirrors and lenses are all you should need .( Helping you to scale down your design ) Could be a money maker if you panel off behind the projector from sunlight after scaling it down , or even maybe a case ,just a thought . . .

    Otherwise Brilliant Idea . . .

  • @dantheman012008 the back-light on the lcd is not nearly bright enough to satisfy a 70"+ screen, even in a completely dark room it would be barely visible, to get a really good quality screen i would recommend at least 1000 lumen, mine is 4000

  • That was pretty cool. I can see a 14 inch LCD Monitor fitting nicely on the overhead projector and making the whole thing permanent.

    Nice work! Bravo!

  • Um, how do you play the dvd?

  • @theignition21

Um, You put it in the DVD reader in the PC that LCD was connected to.

The Big clue came when he was taking apart the LCD Monitor to get the LCD panel & controller out.... Duh.

Did you not understand what he was doing when he was disassembling the LCD Monitor? If you didn't, maybe you shouldn't attempt this.

  • @theignition21 Go To School! >_>

  • @theignition21 Put the disc inside the OHP.... xD

  • oh yeah and the screen is 6ft by 5 ft. and the bulbs cost 5 bucks with an average of 75 hour lifetime. i do plan on building a regular box the goal of this projector was just to see what the cheapest it could be done for. i spent 110

  • i did end up using an lcd tv the dissasembly was supprisingly easy plus it has vga connect hdmi. overhead projector i got is 4000 lumens which i got off of ebay ffor 60 bucks (free shipping) the tv was 50 bucks (ebay) i'd give the video quality threw the vga a 6.5 but when i hook up my xbox360 and switch it to 1080i i'd give it a 8.0 it does help to have a pure white screen the wall sucks. mostly just did the test run still have to mount everything. so far i am pretty happy with it.

  • its wasteful, reason being that the projector is needed plus its has to be a VERY DARK ROOM!!

    so really kind of lame.

    but good idea

projector would only make the room hotter

  • Dude....kudos, that rocked. Any time you can turn inexpensive into something useful it's a win for the little guys.

  • would you suggest using a normal flat panel monitor versus a wide screen flat panel?

  • I already have a LCD monitor that I paid $2!!!!! For

  • there is a little more to building it then this but not much. the picture does not come out backwards because the screen is flipped. if you go to there website it has step by step instructions on how to build this. in one of the pictures towards the end they are viewing there website on the projector and the lettering isn't backwards which is how i know nothing is reversed. i was actually wondering if you could use a lcd tv instead of a computer monitor.

  • @wastedspace2169 whats the website called?

  • @wastedspace2169 There is no reason why you cant use an LCD TV. The only downside to this is most smaller LCD TV's have lower specs and its very noticable when watching the projection.

This was the reason why I decided to go with an LCD monitor (havent built the pj yet still wating on my lens kit)

  • is he just laying the screen on the projector or is there more to it?

  • @Hvr2Hvr he's just laying it there

  • @Hvr2Hvr jeahr you have to build al litttle gap between the projektor and the LCD for the cooling fan ;)

  • this video is 4 dumb chode

  • @JOKERtheSIC That's not even a complete sentence

  • @awayfromgod eBay may work, but when I find them cheap they're usually at a second-hand shop.

  • @awayfromgod It actually can be. Overhead projectors can often be found used for $10-15, and you can likely find an LCD screen like that for $50 at Goodwill or something. Or, you can pay $300+ for a Commercial LCD Projector.

  • awesome..might use this for a sensory box project

  • @TheTripEffect i have 100 videos of diferent diy projectors

  • wont everything be back wards?

  • @CONT4M1NAT3D still looks the same though just titles and stuff would be back wards and all you have to do its take a white sheet and putt the the projector of the other side of the screen so its not on the same side as you and presto its normal again

  • indymogul you should just make a big daddy suit is cool and mostly is FAT!!

  • do you relly need the fan

  • @mav5566 i have 100 videos of diferent diy projectors

  • vo comprar um pra mim

    :D

  • WWOOWW nice one mate

  • LOL SICK!

  • Its way cheaper to make hd projector that way.

  • Has anyone tried this? Does it actually work?

  • @bben95 I assume it would. The crystal is still on top of the overhead, it just needs the light from below. A normal LCD screen has a polarized crystal screen on top of a light. Fluorescent, I believe...? If you were to replace the light in the overhead with a fluorescent light, it would work. LCDs are basically just projectors anyway, he's just redirecting the light.

  • Can you project 300 inches or larger on something like this? I want a backyard theater to watch from my new deck.

  • just buy a projector. Durable , Portable , projector.

  • How many people really have one of those projectors at home though??

  • fag

  • @Sexybeast123178 Nice to meet you Troll, I sure believe you are a sexybeast :) [irony off]

  • Pretty brilliant.

  • Awesome

  • youd have to make it so that prongs attach to the monitor and air circulates around the monitor unit with the same multi box setup.

  • the other thing is having the glass top and having the glass covered is probably whats causing the heat as light=radiation with those powerfull enough lights. i would make your own projector unit (removing the glass from the main projector base) and install fans, make it light tight for the images inside and allow fans for cooling, you can put little cups so light doesnt come out of the fan areas.

  • you should vastly be able to improve this design by simply building a cardboard box setup over the top of the unit. light pollution from the main unit top (where the screen is) is probably causing the picture to look washed out. id have a light tight room (no open windows, alarm clock leds). you will simply want to cut a hole where the mirror/projector lense is and encase the top in sturdy cardboard. watch for heat damage and ventalate when you confirm youve improved the image.

  • jesus that looks pretty good!!!, how come the image doesnt loose quality when its blown up so much

  • Nice!

  • *Awesome* project! I like to see people's creativity put to good uses like this. I don't have an overhead projector right now, but I've got some LCD monitors that are collecting dust. Well done!

  • So it looks pretty clear here... can anyone tell me how clear the picture really is?

  • heyy bro nice video but where can i get on of thowsthings where i sit the screen on the thing that makes the video show up like the ones u have at skool thanks

  • awesome!

  • very clever actually

  • Cheap and practical

  • that works fine

  • considering what he's just done the grin is appropriate! ha.

  • haha u look funny walkin across the screen afterwards with a cheesy grin like "yea damn straight i made this" aha

  • ha love it, 'INSTALL ONTO YOUR OHP' oh right thats how i do it? very informative

  • WoW, that's very nice.

  • so... it's HUGE, leaks lots of light and has a loud fan?!

sure, it's cool and well done, good picture quality, but chances are it will catch fire anyway. you can pick up vga projectors from ebay now for less than £100 so why bother?!

  • @babaroogeorge yeah it's not perfect, but much better than cheaper VGA project (640x480) with potential for true 1080pi...true 1080pi projectors cost in the thousands

  • There is no need für a widescreen overhead projector. It has no resolution because there is no display built in! The display should be Widescreen if wanted or needed! And a display of let´s say 15" is far more cheaper than 200€. You can get one for 70-80 €uro (in Germany) or maybe less! But how much is the prize für an overhead projector?

  • its cheaper to spend £200 on a brand new one

    rather than

    riping a £500 laptop/computer apart

  • it`s for people that already have an old lcd monitor (which you can get for $200 by the way) to spare

  • If anyone's got theplans for the IMAX version of this please let me know ;-)

  • how is this connected to a computer? Is there something on the overhead?

  • ... this is basically a gutted LCD monitor on place on a projector with a fan to keep the LCD panel cool enough. you just connect the monitor as you normally would...

  • @MultiSleepyman did you watch the movie?

  • can u use the original wires and connectors and stuff?

  • Make it so................

  • it will work with a mp4 player display?

  • WOW!

  • amazing....

    gonna try this someday soon....

  • Too bulky

  • amazing light and colors

  • What's the difference with the projector??? :-/

  • To hickyxsi or whoever has done this... how in the world do connect the Lcd back to the PC once its on the Projector. And another thing, projectors of this type and lamps are hard to find.

  • they are everywhere. I just bought one today for 20 dollars. I found it on craigslist...
