This is well know fact that it was written by the Bergman's for Sinatra - if you read about the Bergman's history of writing music you should come across it. I believe I heard it on a show that the Bergman's were on discussing some of the music they have written. Also Michael Feinstein wrote about it regarding his CD that he worked on a while back in how he was able to get the rights to sing it as the Bergman's were at first reluctant to let anyone sing it since Sinatra never did.

Did you know that the Bergmans (Alan and Marilyn) originally wrote the lyrics to this piece of music composed by John Willaims for Sinatra to record? Sinatra when looking at the song, asked the Bergmans how did they know him so well (in how the lyrics were written)? Apparently, Sinatra never recorded this, and so it was put to bed for a while, until Michael Feinstein convinced Alan and Marilyn Berman to let him sing it letting them listen to how he recorded it for approval, and now Streisand.

@bellabecka2You Interesting story, just curious where you heard this story from?...not that I doubt it, just curious.....I listened to Feinstein's version, and it sounds a bit heavy, for my taste, where Barbra breathes a different type of insight into it. This is her brilliance. I wonder who she was thinking of when she chose this song to sing, I doubt it's JB. Best.

her voice has "thickend" some and is not as crystalline as in her 20's yes indeed..BUT ...she is almost 70...wonderful.!!
