If I cut out the pleasure maybe I could focus on the goals better. I have stopped drinking and cut down on video games a lot. I think fun in small doses is good for you. What do you think?

After a long, but not finished journey from that point, I think the purpose is to enjoy your life. Poking fun at those that held me in a cage and called me a sinner as a child is fun and enjoyable.

@zragisha Hedonism? I dunno. I don't spend all day gratifying my senses. I do as much as is possible, but my goals in life are more important to me. I spend most of my time being a father and the rest working (I should be working now). So maybe a little hedonistic, but I enjoy creating things more. If I cut out the pleasure maybe I could focus on the goals better. I have stopped drinking and cut down on video games a lot. I think fun in small doses is good for you. What do you think?

I think joy is obligartory (thessalonians: rejoyce evermore) and of course we must choose the source of our joy very wisely. which I think you do abandoning drinks and games (denying yourself) in favor of your kids. hats off! But is it appropriate or necessary to equalize atheism with sanity and intelligence, and faith with stupidity and crime? Some atheist say faith is a dangerous mental disease. Next logical step would be to institutionalize and torture me till I deny God or die..

So he can become a square circle? Yes? Well square circles don't exist. It's all a fantastic story but not possible. And when you put this irrational idea at the base of your truth meter, or morality, you become an irrational, possible immoral person. For example, if god tells you to kill your child, you will.

@zragisha if god tells me to kill my child, I'll go to the psychologist and they'll tell me I have a deep seated problem in my brain caused by my uncle raping me. Religion is a tool used by people like the raping uncle to make you forgive them. It makes bad people look good and turns victims into perpetrators. It's a tool for hiding the truth of the matter from yourself first, and then continuing the violence done to you while everyone else in the church approves. These are my thoughts.

Another was a youth minister. Another was my christain friend. I don't know any atheists who have sexually abused children.

Naturally this question is only answered in the affirmative by those who metaphorically drag their on the ground while walking and usually have never successfully, mathematics, physics, chemistry or biology to at least a 12th grade level and many haven't studied theology at all. Fewer than half the general population can balance their cheque books. Its a sure bet theists are over represented in that group since their SAT scores can be 10-11% lower than atheists/agnostics.

Even though he is being ironic about killing atheists, he doesn't grasp the teaching of Christ. The verse he used is Jewish law and the practice is today carried out in Islam only. Old Testament is full of violence, but that is the history of Man. Jesus did not think women were less than men [again Muslim practice], JC elevated them to status of "Daughter of Abraham" which made them positionally a Princess. Everyone goes to hell, but JC came to save Slaves to Sin to make Slaves to Righteousness.

@Heatherbloom75 that is not true, in the new testament jesus speaks of the killing of those who curse their parents ( Mattew 15:4), also, look up Romans 1:20-32, and leviticus 20:27 (killing of psychics and stuff). The truth is, christians themselves decided to ignore what can be viewed as non acceptable on today society. Also, they should normally follow the ancient testament (Matthew 5:17-18). So telling it is "muslim practice" is just soothing words to make oneself feel better.

@loosfoos You really do not understand Christianity or the Bible. Boil it down to Jesus' teaching: "Everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court." He equates HATE with the Command "Do Not Kill." He is concerned with your Inward Spiritual Being--so if you don't hate in your heart in the first place, then you won't kill. Kinda puts a damper on this whole "kill all the Jews" teaching of Islam doesn't it? The Messiah is saying DON'T HATE and DON'T KILL. Matthew 5:21-48

Christians did not "ignore was what is non-acceptable." They should do what Jesus commanded them to do and to teach others. Ex. Jewish leaders bring adulterous woman to Jesus for stoning IAW their Law [well NOT since they didn't bring the man] to test him. Did he say obey the Law? He said "Let the person who is without sin throw the first stone." So they went away. He asked who accuses you? She said no one. He said, Neither do I and "sin no more." This was how we are to view the Law. We all sin.

And we punish rapists a lot harder than what god wants. God says they must only pay a mild fine, and then their victim must be forced to marry him, so the rapist always wins.

@TheIdealGasLaw Jesus was born and raised as a Jew. Therefore, he either followed his religion, like you said, or he went against it. I'm going to assume that you are correct. Okay, if Jesus followed the Jewish faith, he also would have had to follow the Old Testament. The Old Testament clearly states many examples of murder by God and the Israelites. It also includes rules like if a bride is found to not be a virgin, she is to be stoned. Once it says not to kill. Many times it says to kill.
