jaws has skinny dippers and people getting torn apart and it had PG, but Spider-Man 2 cant get a PG? Big is PG and it has a kid saying Fuck. But you say 1 fuck now and its instantly PG13 if its not implying to sex. if it does, or its said more than once, its R. WTF?
well if your going to go up to 15 that might aswell be the new r because what 15 year old cant watch an r rated movie. I mean really. If there are 15 year olds who cant handle the word fuck or sexuality or FICTIONAL violence then they need therapy. not like cookoo therapy but they just need some sort of professional to sit them down and give them a reality check
@comedeyzone we have 15s over here in england and there is no problem like that here, over here the rating in G, PG, 12A(Basically PG-12), 15+ and 18+ and 15 year olds are a lot more sensitive then you think due to your mind at that age, I nknow people who can't stand 18 movies but can watch 15s just fine.
@comedeyzone I can safely say when I was 14 I couldn't stand gore at all in fims (it really made me feel sick) and I didn't grow out of it until I was 15.
Just because you ahve always been able to take horror doesnt mean everyone can and as said in the video everyone is different at that age.
Have you ever seen Disney's animated Hunch Back of Norte Dame? That is rated G and that has to be possible the darkest Disney film in the history of Disney. It was also my most favorite movie when I was like 6. It still is one of my most favorite movies of all times. But my god re-watching it; the fact it didn't get a PG-13 rating let alone even a PG rating just makes it even more awesome. It also proof that G doesn't actually mean just for infants and toddlers, which alot of people think.
@TheFanOfNintendo No. Parents are to blame for Batman Forever and TMNT 2. TMNT 2 is ok not as good as the first one by any stretch but ok. Batman forever on the other hand was far superior to the two previous films (and parents actually had a right to complain about Returns). Batman and Robin is the result of the studio want the most sellable toyetic movie they could have.
@blowshimselfupdude, Batman Returns was rated PG 13, so how did parents have a right to complain about returns? I've never understood why people consider Returns to be darker then the first one. Joker burns a man to death with a joy buzzered and then talks to his charred remains.
NC-17 should be called 'limited" coz u cant see those movies anyway they dont get advertising on TV and newspapers and filmmakers just say unrated on the dvds even though it may be the nc-17 version. thats so lame.
i hate these high moral fuckwitt who complain to ratings boards that afilm was rated too low. and should have been rated higher for things they object to such as language and sexual content.
soo many PG-13 or M movies around might have been rated PG back in the 80s coz the violence is not very detailed and the detailed violence with blood is one bit here or there and that may include a not too detailed stabbing or gunshot or impaling or a action with brutal stunts but stylized like comic book movies
dude Ghostbusters is PG here in australia too and still is as it was reclassfied/reexamined for a new dvd/bd release and got new consumer advice for the dvd reissue and BD release
whats the point in having an NC 17 when nobody uses it. may as well juyst call nc-17 "banned' or limited access coz thats seems to be the state of a NC 17 movie in your stupid country , the cinema ppl should fucking run what the audiences want not go by some fucked up moral agenda
KIDS to an R rated movie?! Parents are so stupid! They thought because it's a superhero film that it's fine for kids, and when it's all over they want to get angry at the filmmakers for it, when it's their responsibility as the parents to approve what their kids see. The irony is that many of these so-called adults act like kids themselves.
Your so right dude. Although I don't think the problem is the system. The rating system is fine, the problem is the parents. Do you know that a couple years ago when watchmen came out, their were so many parents angry WB because they had taken their kids to it?
The irony of this is hilarious. I picked up a pamphlet at the theater that explains the rating system and it says that 'parents and working citizens are the panel that decide the ratings of the movies'. When I read that, I was aghast. Seriously? Ordinary parents decide this? It's so dumb since so many people complain about movies being too violent and whatnot... Yet apparently parents like them (apparently) vote on the movie ratings.
@bodonnavox blue zone? no we dont have zones. they just put colors to ratings to distinguish them apart. and make them easily to remember. but it just M.
any tips im making a ranting channel and when I was a couple months old I watched Twister and then Friday the 13th Im 18 now guess what?? nothing Im perfectly fine I say shit all the time and fuck I went to PG-13 movies at age 1
first pg- 13 movie, 7 years old? first r movie 9 years old, the pianist. shit i dont think ill watch that movie even now as a 14 year old. i had to turn it off after like the 300th lady got shot in the head by the nazis
To be fair TMNT has a more significant amount of violence then Pixar. I think the PG rating was warranted for that one.
And I have noticed how ignorant even stores are about it, because I've seen stores with the PG-13 DC and Marvel animated films in the kids sections, and I've just had to shake my head at it. Like you said, if it is animated and isn't R, it's automatically a kids film.
I remember when I was four, and my parents would take me to PG-13 movies, so I never had a problem. When I reached nine years old, I saw my first "R" movie in theaters and I've seen more since then. Never a problem, I never freaked out or anything. I just don't understand ratings any more, because a lot of people are mature for their age, so their parents don't care, and since parents don't care, no one cares!
But that was just you. As he said in this video, different people at different ages can handle different things. I was able to handle PG-13 when I was like 8, but I know others who couldn't.
To be entierley fair, some parents will bitch about the film being unsitable for kids regardless of what rating it is. Just look at the hysteria in the hayday of slasher films! Regardless of an R rating or higher, parents will still bitch.
Here in the UK, most Pixar films are rated PG. When the spider man film came out, the "12+" rating was changed to "12A", meaning that all children under 12 must be acompanies by an adult. Our other film ratings are 15+ and 18+, which work alright.
I saw a review for Kick-Ass on Yahoo Movies and the guy complained that he and his seven year old son had to cover their ears and eyes due to the violence. I mean... I dunno. R rating should mean kids shouldn't be allowed in at all. At least really young children because these idiot parents just go in and force them to watch these violent movies due to their own idiocy. (Seriously, didn't the movie's title tip that dumbass off, too??)
So Yes the rating system needs a rehashing, by the way. what is your opinion on the theatrical PG-13 and R rated movies being released on DVD as " UNRATED OR EXTENDED " or any other B.S.
here in australia, we have G: all ages, PG: Parental guidedence recommended, M: Mature audiences. MA 15+ Restricted: Not suitable for anyone under 15 and R 18+ Restricted: 18 and up. i've looked, and most films that are R in america are either M, MA, or R in Australia. PG 13's in America often end up in either PG or M. yes, M has both american PG 13s and R's.
All I want is for the rule that your parents have to accompany you in the theater to change. My mom was perfectly fine with me seeing R-films when I was fifteen and sixteen, but some movies she just didn't want to see with me. Parents should be able to give permission at the ticket stand for their underage kids to see a film, or at least not sell a kid a ticket only to tell him/her at the door that he/she can't go in. That's wrong.
I mean 14A it is rated 14A but should be more, the thing is I saw it at 14, I was fine, I also saw young children in the audience they were not fine, I dont think its a problem with the age it is set to it is a problem with the fact most people will let 7 or 8 year olds watch a 14 A Movie, I was fine but I can see it being bad for a young kid mostly because of how sick and Psycotic Ryder is, I understand his character but I dont think young children are able to
Show girls... though i think that was well over 10 years ago.
I agree on getting rid of PG (based on your logic) but i just don't see the point of putting another rating in at 15. If anything i say lower R to 15 or 16. I'm sorry whiney parents, but if you're kid is in high school nothing from an R Rated movie isn't gonna effect the more then it would if they were seeing it a 18.
And then every movie could just shoot for R and we would all have better movies!

In Australia we now have; G, PG, M, MA15+, R18+, XR18+ (porn). M is ""recommended"" for mature audiences. MA15+ need adult if under 15
You actually expect parents to care about what their children watch? What kind of sick monster are you!!!! The burden of making sure movies are appropriate is the job of the rating system! */sarcasm*
Seriously, though, that's the attitude. I think this attitude springs out of guilt from laziness. So when a parent doesn't screen or even check out the synopsis of a movie before they take their kids to see it, they end up getting mad, embarrassed, fearful that their child will become a hellion, etc. So they blame someone else and, unfortunately, that's the entire attitude in the USA right now, for everything.
The rating system in Britain is u, pg, 12, 15 & 18 which is age related, why is the oldest age 18 and in america its 17 ? And some films like Taken REALLY dont need an 18 rating that should of been a 15 at the most
I have some other problems with the ratings. Family guy is rated PG13 and Terminator 2 is R. I bet a parent would let their kid see Terminator 2 before Family guy. The crude humor in Family guy that is always infered is far worse than saying fuck. The blood is just as bad in that show as T2, but Family guy cencores any fucks or shit. Eventhe cartoon transformers movie said shit. Family should just be allwowed to say fuck or shit, but not be allowed to use that very crude humor.
I saw the Dark Knight and my grandmother saw some of it, I loved it my grandmother thought it was disturbing and kept talking abot the scene where the joker dressed up as a nurse and thought it ended when the joker blow up a hospital.
In my state you have to be 18 to go see R films which is stupid because they had a sign outside that said 17. Like this summer me and my friends tried to go see the Hangover becuase but we couldn't becuase we all were 17, which is bullshit
jaws has skinny dippers and people getting torn apart and it had PG, but Spider-Man 2 cant get a PG? Big is PG and it has a kid saying Fuck. But you say 1 fuck now and its instantly PG13 if its not implying to sex. if it does, or its said more than once, its R. WTF?

In my state you have to be 18 to go see R films which is stupid because they had a sign outside that said 17. Like this summer me and my friends tried to go see the Hangover becuase but we couldn't becuase we all were 17, which is bullshit

Death Race should have been PG-13.

wow USA film ratings are much weaker than UK which is weird because your TV censorship is crazy.

i was lucky, my parents let me see a shit-load of pg-13 movies.

here in Scotland and the rest of the UK, we've got a more versatile listing system:
Uc (universal-child): Basically 5 and below
U (universal): basically your G
PG...your PG
12 - PG 13 really
15 - for people 15 and up
and finally 18 - R and PG 17

That's a much better system. Makes sense it comes from the same country as Craig Furgeson.

no your right about the nc-17, my theater doesn't have nc-17 movies.
InfamousNick07 2 years ago
PG should include G and G should go away. NC-17 basically doesn't exist anyway. PG-13 should be renamed
PG, XIII, R
