People can be happy that TGV or ICE did not had such a problem (25t vehicle standing on the track). Otherwise it would be a small conserve tin. And at 570 km/h...the braking way would be 10km. How many times it would turn around after derailing???
the maglev use a lot of power only for sustaining. tgv save energy when stopping by transforming it's cinetic energy in electricity. and today we must have energetic efficient technologies.

The maglevs are doing the same with the electronic power converters when bullet trains didn´t have this technology yet. And these converters don´t need to be installed in the trains. At high speed maglevs are more energey efficient than bullet trains and much more energey efficient than airplanes with almost the same speed. And more safe compared to both.

JR maglev experiment lines are too short (ca. 18.4 km) to accelerate over 581 km/h.
So, the facilities will be extended to 42.8 km, and permit over 700-800 km/h till 2013.
But, it is an indisputable fact that TGV is technologically sophistcated.
