  • hes probably using an emulator again.

  • Does anyone actually know why PC's "won" the war? I read that the reason was because businesses went for IBM compatibles and people wanted to use something they were familiar with at home. But I can't find a good explaination of why businesses opted for the worst and most expensive system available. It doesn't make sense. My father told me about the "nobody got fired for buying IBM" campaign. What did Amiga/Atari/Acorn/Amstrad/Apple not do right?

  • @Craptron2000 For Commodore, the Amiga was doing extremely well in Europe thanks to the huge Amiga scene (hobby stuff like making art, games, music, surfing BBS's ect) and that everybody know back then in 87 till 94 that it simply was the BEST Pc and gaming machine by word of mouth,

But Commodore international (USA) could not market the amiga in theUS and was living of the profit of the EU branches slowly starving,,, like someone was hanging on a guys pants who was hanging on the edge of a cliff.

  • @janmansde3dede -

Amiga deserved to die with AGA chipset -they failed to update the graphics in a crucial direction, 'chunky' vs 'planar'. the technological lead was squandered.

but an A500 back in the day relative to similar machines was just incredible

  • @Craptron2000 PC's never can "won" the war since it was never owned by anyone ! it is a interdependent platform and thus can never die.

  • LOL!

    Where do I start?

"You can do anything on this that you can't do on TOS"

"I mean not even Windows has this even now without downloading 3rd party."

Every click is followed by a scraping disk drive sound.

    Deeeoop! Deeeoop!

Please give it up! Commodore feked up the Amiga as Atari did with the ST. The PC was well established in business. What company in their right mind would have switched to an alternative?

  • @R6502A A lot of them did. Amiga was great value for price and very much ahead in video and graphic technology than PC. Sound and graphic cards where VERY expensive back then. The operating system had multitasking and features that PC owners only could dream of in 1987. A PC was maybe 3-4 times more expensive than the Amiga 500 and what could you do with it? Running DOS!!!

  • @R6502A TOS/GEM was a piece of crap man! I mean REALLY BAD. Unworthy to even sweep up the Amigas OS's nail clippings. Didn't they have to abbreviate from TOSSER because of marketing concerns?

Don't get me wrong, a color GUI was something really different in '85 BUT it was still crap!

  • I think Workbench 1.3 looks better since it has more colours, Workbench 3.0 and 3.1 looks kind of boring and unpedagogical. I had an Amiga 500 before, now it's broken so I'm running WinUAE, with Workbench 1.3 of course.

  • my mint condition A4000 040 is on eBay now.

    happy bidding

  • HE STRIKES BACK

    THE AMIGA ONE X1000 !!!

  • Now ask yourselves the question when Microsoft slot Windows ideas from! OSX? lol

  • Responding to an earlier comment.

AST Computer Research once said of Dell HP and Compaq. the only Tool for advancement in there toolbox is a screwdriver!. R&D whats that?

  • love that noisy floppy drive

  • This is were Microsoft stole the idea to Windows from. That or Apple!

  • @roskildahphreak

    Actually, they ripped of Xerox.

  • @mrs7195 No shit? Wow! That is some fascinating shit to know! Wow!

  • The Amiga can multi task.... but not the iPad.

  • Comment removed

  • Haha :D

    The iPad is complete shit.

  • @Galforg yes it can

  • @thedarkdragon735 nope.jpg

  • @Galforg double press the home button

  • @thedarkdragon735 gee thanks i'll try that on my ipad oh wait.

  • nice video thanks

  • gee that old computers was slow

  • I remember back in the day, explaining to some PC using friends the concept of dragging your files to a trashcan to delete them.

  • Stop saying 'as you can see'

  • best computer ever invented in human history.

sad that the executives don´t make it happen for everyone. PC will should be ever be existed.

  • Yeah, the computers of that era had personality that one can identify with, not like today where there isn't much of a difference between an HP and a Dell and a Compaq.

  • @mefrlzrox Good news for you and all amiga fans. The X1000 is coming out, new top end os, system all built coming out soon. I am so buying one.

  • @mefrlzrox : The PC had been established for years before the Amiga came along. Amiga had no chance.

  • @R6502A I like Amiga fanboy on this video

  • I want an Amiga too!

  • To judge from the Drive Sound its the UAE ....

  • cool demo

  • Ah from back when operating systems were REAL operating systems and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were REAL small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.

Also man the fun I had with Say :D

  • you cant do it on TOS? Did you ever see a Falcon 030 with MINT? The multitasking OS with TOS 4? I think not.

  • both of which came like 10 years after workbench 1.

  • well, I have. and as good as TOS/MINT and the available atari hardware is, it just doesnt compete with amiga. more users, new hardware, a new operating system, more and better software. sorry.

  • so i think you never had an Falcon 030. Maybe you talk ab out the ST. The Amiga was better than the ST but not better than the Falcon.

  • @karadok666 hehe.. what amiga are you talking about? I bet even a standard a1200 beats any falcon, but a 4000+40 surely does! and is there a modern cpu or operating system for the falcon out now? we have all that, and more. sorry, but atari really lost the battle.

  • @rvounik a standard 1200 was not better. Really not. People are still upgrading the different OS on Atari Falcons and there are still coming new Accelerators for it. Just ordered one and soon will come a complete new Tos compatible system.

By the way - i dont think about "ballte" and so on. This is stupid. Atari AND Commodore where great companys and i be proud about still having working Amigas, STEs and Falcons ;)

  • @rvounik They both lost the battle in the end, and that's really too bad.

  • @karadok666 The A4000 was better than the falcon right ? (040,2-4 MB RAM/Tower version can have a 060 and have 8 MB RAM standard)

  • @janmansde3dede Hard to say, the A4000 was faster and it came out later. Better grafix, faster CPU - thats for sure. But the Falcon was a music computer and the A4000 was not good for that. Try 8 channels harddisc playback 44,1 khz 16 bit and recording. Thats impossible. Just face it. The Amiga and Falcon / ST / C64 and all that computers where great parts of that computer evolution. But they lost against IBM/Microshit.

  • @karadok666 Yeah, i agree especially with the Microshit part, Never know that the falcon was a music computer !

  • Nice video!

    5:46 sound ... why?!

  • just noticed memacs :D it was very usful for editing the startup-sequence for the floppy disks and harddrives i use to love spying in on mag disks looking at how they did there disk intros learnt alot heh but yeah it was to workbench what notepad is to windows but obviously memacs was better and offered more features :)

  • shame on you entering dos commands in a shell haha should end and return , not enter and exit like its some magic door :P

  • Multitask!

  • btw the one I had was 1.3

  • ah yes, This reminds me of when I had my amiga 500 - especially that fdisk sound!!

  • My father has his Workbench 1.3 disks in their packaging, never opened! I think he knew something more when he decided not to open them :)

I think I will be keeping them for a loooong time..

  • You will be audio swapping its video. :)

  • Oh the memories!

Had a 20 MB harddride to my A500 (standard with 512kb extra ram).

That thing was noicy. Was superb tho, wish I had kept it.

  • just think, the Amiga already had "widgets" that you are now really starting to see in pc's and macs in the last couple of years. Ahh, fond memories of my Amiga 2000...

  • Did you have any Amiga Demos

  • And this beatuful sound of floppy drive...;)

  • i love it too! ... I miss this sound <3

  • Amiga reminds me of Mac OS... It operates the same!! Menu bar on the top.

  • the 2.5 looked and acted the same as 3.0 i had it for the 600 though 3.0 had better libarys to support the aga features of the 1200 4000 is my guess, if you was good with arexx too etc you could customise the desktop to look sweet even add start up menus etc all this on just 3 880k disks excluding the fonts :)i remmeber having a 120meg harddrive and could never fill it dispite all the software and animations i had lol awesome

  • With the AGA chipset all resolutions (320x200 up to 1280x512) could have 256 colours. Or 262144 colours with ham. JPEGs looked great in those modes, though you needed an accelerated computer in order to display them before you died of old age. ;)

  • Ah, the British dialect I can actually speak *thumbs up*

I've got Workbench 3 actually working on my 500+, with a 4 ROM chipset... THAT was a pain xD

With the AGA chipset, low resolution screen could get a maximum of 256 colors. It's quite amasing, even when it was new... Perhaps STILL good!

  • hehehe, I so remember the noisy disk drive from the Amiga.

    The "Say" application is hilarious.

  • I really want one of these, but I can't find them anywhere for >$100. T_T

  • Where did you download the Workbench roms?

  • damn i just recently upgaded my A500 to 3.1 hahaha

    i might downgrad i actually prefer 1.x : )

  • aaaaw I remember!
