Just watched the interview on Inside Xbox and the developers said the inspiration behind this game was Battle Garegga on the Saturn! they said they wanted to make a game that done it justice. Not sure how that works considering this is a horizontal shmup but still, I'm looking forward to this!

Easily nominated as the Spiritual Successor to Crimson Skies: Highroad to Revenge. It looks...Jesus, it looks amazing. Nonsensical Trailer, yeah, but, it made love to my eyes and gave them several orgasms. Can't wait to see more about this and, more importantly, play it. Not enough solid Diesel-Punk titles out there. Hell, even the Steampunk genre lacks a good number of quality, story/character driven games. Most are either tower defense games or casual Smart-Phone apps. This looks special.

To put it precisely; dieselpunk = futuristic stuff based on 1920's-1940's technology. And that's what this seems to be, which is pretty awesome. The only really recent dieselpunk game I can remember is the BioShock series.

One doesn't exclude the other, of course. Art Deco originated in 1920's and 1930's, of course, the same era of tech BioShock uses. Rapture's technology was dieselpunk, Rapture's art style was Art Deco. And gorgeous it was, so sad that we never got to see the city in it's full splendor. I so wanted BioShock 2 to be a prequel.

and a prequel would imply tampering the original one with a lesser, yet still good, story

that's what I liked of 2, it didn't try to change anything important from other characters, unlike, say, what Highlander 2 did with the Immortals

Oh I liked it too, but I had an idea for a prequel: you'd basically play someone who came to Rapture with dreams, turned out as a janitor and joined Atlas' cause. It'd be a lot more open-world, with missions for various Atlas agents, insurgent-style tinkering would be an important part in how you tackle missions, and you'd see Rapture transform from beautiful to horrible. You'd get spliced along the way and meet famous characters from audiotapes. That's it in a very small nutshell.
