First I am seeing these. They look very sensible, and the PA system is first rate, not like our tinny sounding R-160. The interiors should have had more thought given to making them attractive. Could live without the exterior super graphics as well. Smart that the side signs are non-digital. Also kept a few forward facing seats, that is important. And best of all you can still see something through the front.
What an ugly transit car this is. Come one...even a Philly Almond Joy or a NYCTA R42 is a lot better than this.....and those were built 40-50 years ago!
The one thing that should'nt have touched these cars is the strip maps above the doors like on the R142/R142A/R143. They shoulda put up a FIND instead.
@DarkAngelrace trust me they're better & safer than NYC's trains cause i rode on them both & at least the new cta trains have security cameras & black boxes unlike NYC's current trains. CHI-CITY!!!
@ChariotMan5 all im saying is that the majority of the NYC subway system is underground & the majority of the Chicago subway system is elevated. i think ours is better cause we have good views of the neighborhoods & its like a tour to our visitors to Chicago when they look out the windows & see the sights. it beats being stuck in the depressing underground NYC subway system most of the time. CHI-CITY!!!
@26Deacon Well I been to Chicago in 03 nice city with tall buildings but smaller then NYC, ass for the Subway I aint gonna lie those trains do run smooth there but these damn NYC Subways always need track work on the weekends and that causes delays!
@ChariotMan5 we have train delays too maybe not as bad as NYC. the worst was 2yrs ago when the cta laid down new tracks & ties for the blue line all the way to O'Hare airport where i work. that sucked at the time but now the trains run faster to O'hare.
@ChariotMan5 of course Chicago is smaller than NYC cause NYC is 3x the size of Chicago but sometimes bigger aint always better. the CHI is the place to be. sweet home Chicago. the world's greatest city baby.
I think the new door beeping is totally unnecessary. There's already the loud two tones and announcement that the doors are closing. I have a feeling that beeping is gonna get annoying real fast. Also, the auto-leveling will probably rear its head as a maintenance nightmare. On the other hand, I LOVE the bowling alley seating and straphangars!
@msibnsf Bombardier has been around for a while. They built some of Metra's old Electric Highliners (ex IC) in the '70s. The rest of them came from St. Louis Car Co.
It looks old-fashioned... Please change the style please!

Great propulsion acceleration at 7:30. definitely not alstom propulsion though. either siemens or Bombardier, and i'm leaning toward bombardier.
