It is really interesting to hear this song stripped down to just the guitar. I think it just shows how amazing early Genesis/ Steve Hackett is. Thank you for this amazing rendition, you bring out the beauty and power of the peice.
I'm a old fan of Genesis and I played a lot when I was young. After I saw your video I re-tune my guitar and restarted to play and try to play as good as you. I read then you play on ear.. You have much then that... Your a wondefull arranger for me and your comprehensive music is wondefull.. thanks... I hope you understand .. My english is not my first language. Long life to you
@troubleclef troubleclef, how can you be this great? i myself are 20 years old, been playing guitar for about 8 years and i love genesis! i mean, this should be impossible to comprehend, it just stuns me to see something this unique!
Thank you for all your vids! You have excellent taste, excellent ear and excellent talent. I like that your clips honor the music, even sometimes distill it into something more accessible than the original. My grandparents would have loved your versions but wouldn't have listened to the originals. Great job.
I'm one too! I am absolutely in love with this song at the moment, I can't help playing it on a loop... But generally, everything from early Genesis is just fantastic
brilliant ..I bought this album in 73..everyone loved "suppers",..as did I,...but this was my second fave....written about King Canute trying to hold back the sea....near where I live in Southampton...
Thats right, across from Ocean Village, used to be a pub called "the Canute",it still has a plaque high up on the wall, bearing the legend. Its an estate agents now.
OK, thanks anyway, troubleclef, I'll just have to watch your fingers carefully:). had a look at your Kate Bush with La La Vox later. Absolutely wonderful, great presentation too.
Sir, I take my hat off to you. One of my all time favourite Genesis tracks. Great technique, great sound, and no histronics - just like Mr Hackett. A joy to watch.
NOOOO you missed the last part - the hamond solo!! I was ready to follow you on the keyboards XD great play, I can clearly hear all your emotions and that's just great
I just watched the Genesis version, then I watched this one again... At forst I thought you were just playing Hackett's guitar parts.. NO! You did more! And I think what you did here deserves higher attention, you took the spirit of the WHOLE song and rendered it on ONE instrument and LOST NOTHING.
Also, the technique is astounding, I wish I had the level of concentration it takes to learn the fingerwork, you got it and you do it effortlessly.
Damn, this is WHY Genesis was my favourite band up until The Lanb Lies Down on Broadway.
Steve Hackett himself couldn't play it any better! Who IS this guy... You got every nuance perfect, and just playing it on the acoustic, it is like the whole BAND playing. A fantastic rendition of my probably my favourite Genesis song.
Great job, TC. (Are you the same guy who did the Focus/Jan Akkerman track "Le Clochard"?) This is a bit far-removed from Genesis, but have you ever considered taking on Leslie West's (from Mountain) acoustic masterpieces, "Alisan" and "To My Friend"? I'll bet you could do them justice!
thanks. Yes. I *think* that clip is still available. Not sure if i removed it.
Oh, I like Mountain a lot. The two songs I've thought of doing though are "Tired Angels" and of course "Nantucket Sleighride". (I was always more into the Felix songs than the Leslie songs, but then of course they wouldn't be the same without West's truly awesome guitar prowess, now would they?)
I don't know the songs you mention. I only really know a limited amount of their stuff, to be honest.
Estimado amigo si alguna vez venis a la Argentina las puertas de mi casa estaran abiertas para recibirte y hacer amena tu estadia, tu interpretacion me ha conmovido realmente un gran abrazo y espero que sigamos en contacto, Marcelo.
