I had given up on knitting socks after numerous unsatisfying attempts. As fate would have it, I came across this video. I am so excited about jumping back in and giving it another try with Cat's guidance! I have ordered the book. I await with needles in hand, an open heart, and a smile on my face :)
Awesome - the only way I can describe your videos. It has become a refreshing knitter's habit - I just watch each video and am amazed at what I pick up each time - plus it's a great calming therapy for me.
OH MY GOODNESS!! I cannot believe what you've done in "engineering" perfectly-fitting (& easy) socks WITH NO STRESS! I've heard your name, of course, but for some reason never saw any of your videos. THIS engineering marvel of a sock just BLOWS ME AWAY. I love it & you for imagining it. I'm going to "one-night" your book (small town=no LYS)........just can't wait.
I got your 2 books, Personal foot prints and new pathways in socks knitting as birthday present from my hubby. Will you like to help me if i need. i have read some pages and i found it interessting.
wow! Cat you never cease to amaze me! i watched most of this video without blinking. i have struggled so with sock knitting! heels and holes and asymmetry and bad fit. others would have given up long ago. but i KNEW there just had to be a way! it's only yarn after all. it must bend to my will.
you always share these tricks and tips that remind me of that. you are a genius! i aspire to be Insouciant with my sock knitting. can't wait to try this.
I have large feet (for a woman) and have wanted to learn how to make feminine socks to wear.
I was very pleased to discover that you're coming to Canada soon and am very much looking forward to meting you at Wool & Wicker in Steveston, BC next February!
Cat...Wow! Cannot wait to get this book. I can see the videos will be the icing on the cake. On another note, thanks again for encouraging me to attend the Sock Summit; it was truly awe-inspiring. (I have dropped the word awesome from my vocabulary..."The pizza is awesome, dude!" just doesn't do it for m -lol ). You are a gift.
It was a great pleasure to meet you in person and share some time with you. Thanks for the inspirational Chat and for this great video. I will definitely get your book and hope to promote it around. It looks very interesting and challenging. Thanks for all you do to improve our crafts.
Hi Andy- It was an enormous honor to spend time with you and all the guys at the MFKR. Your knitting is inspirational, and your crocheted hats are so stunning that I could spend days with you learning your techniques. I seriously hope you will publish.
Knittersbookshelf(dot)com will ship my books to Europe at a very reasonable shipping cost and they give great service. I believe they charge much less for shipping than Amazon.
@Cat: Thank you for that hint but as long as there is the difference between $ and € shipping costs really doesn't matter, and books are free from custom costs.
So I will be very happy to get my copy asap and **** for the costs, I just love your books. ;-)
I loved it....however when the birds started singing I almost went flying out of my chair to see what was in the back yard...we had just come in from filming our Humming bird...and this was a sound I hadnt heard in our back yard.
I'll be *rushing* down to my LYS to order a copy. Cat, you've blown my mind with this one. Again. AGAIN!
Next thing I need to do is use the same technique to knit a cardigan, with afterthought sleeves. Your work is inspiration, distilled - thanks so much for sharing!
You'd have to knit the sweater sideways to insert the sleeves, because yarn unravels sideways. Although it would be interesting to try inserting sleeves horizontally.
The video was great, till the birds. I had headphones on and they were loud! lol. At 5:51 where you show the 2 stitches that weren't cut through on either side, there's only 1 1/2 stitches on right, and 2 on the left. Is is supposed to be that way?
You have a good eye! You'll find in the book that it is only essential that the yarn at least go through each of the end sts at least once. The yarn goes through the st on the left twice, and on the right once - either way is fine.
Sorry about the loud birds - I am an amateur movie maker and until you told me this didn't realize it was so! I shall be sure in the future if I use any background audio like that, to keep it lower. Thanks for your excellent feedback.
I am taking your class at the Whole Nine Yarns in Atlanta later this month and very excited. This method looks fun! Love the avoidance of picking up stitches!

I'm german and I don't want to wait a year until any german LYS carries the book - so I pre-ordered by amazon to get it ASAP.
Cat, you're the Genius Maximus of the sock constructors!

I was imagining a cardigan knit button-band-to-button-band, basically... ...with afterthought sleeves and shaping dictated by its wraparoundness :-)

*lol* afterthought-sleeves are common with FairIsle-styles with that after-knitting-cut-steeks...;-)

No worries on the birds. Most people don't use headphones and I had the volume up loud.
