  • brake + gas = victory

  • I think you need some off-road tires for this kind of driving. Those are on-road all season tires, not really designed for this.

  • If he used a bit more speed coming up the hill he would have made it.

  • not easy test

    but subaru do it

  • Time to clean up the heads on the camcorder.

  • I think that the LSDs in the subarus are not powerfull enough for this kind of situations, but pushing the brake pedal slightly while accelerating is usually enough to get unstuck. If you apply enough pressure on the brakes, power will be transferred to all 4 wheels.

  • the LSD that subaru uses is a simple viscous coupling LSD, which SUCKS for this kind of off roading. If there was a clutch type in the rear or a locker, it would have made it up the hill. The VLSD works ok in snow...

  • @funitsu BOTH rear wheels and right front wheel were spinning, the car was lying on it's bottom. Only the front left wheel was standing on the ground properly. The question is why didn't VDC slow down the right front wheel to transfer power to the left?

  • @badnmadyt oh, that makes more sense. By the looks of the headlight(newer model) that Outback should have the traction control. The system must not be applying enough brakes. I wonder if the system thinks you where in a "skid" because it measures steering angle; so Subaru says. Hooking up bottom does suck though as it limits the amount of weight on the tires to some degree. Great videos! I really enjoy watching them and showing people Subaru's AWD system put to the test.

  • @badnmadyt Yes it should transfer the to left wheel.. so VDC was on wasn't it? On the Subaru videos you see the car equipped with VTD / VDC can pull itself with one wheel! Hmmm :D

  • Subarus sure are good at climbing hills with no loose dirt.

  • independent AWD, its not too intelligent but it got matey up a hill

  • i thought the outback was awd?

  • great demonstration of hill climbing

  • Hi again, your Outback doesn't have LSD since it's the 2.5 not 3.0? Or does it? :D

  • @Matty231 Yes, it does :) See Service Manual.

  • @Matty231 Subarus LSD diffs. are made For The street, they not work So nice in that Conditions like here. You have to use the handbrake, only a little bit, to simulate both wheels on the road, then the Diff "locks" up, and your up the hill in seconds^^

  • @ShelbyMustang456789 Ahh okay, i'm suprised the LSD doesn't kick in a bit to slowly move it over.

  • @ShelbyMustang456789 your exactly correct, unfortunately subaru as gone to an "electronic" parking brake so you cannot do this anymore. just goes to show, sometimes things get so good they are bad.

  • @yodalice you are right too. But tihs model still have a Mechanical handbrake. Only the Legacy/Outback since 2009 have the Electric brake :(

  • @Matty231 all outbacks have LSD centre and rear.

  • @arumdevil Not all have rear LSD, in NZ only the 2.5 Premium and 3.6r have rear LSD. And the Autos have a center Hydraulic Clutch transfer system, manuals have the LSD center.

  • @Matty231 ah, well that sucks, in UK all (manual) outbacks have LSD front and centre. what's the point of an outback without?

  • @arumdevil Wow thats lucky :D Yes their is sort of no point having an Outback without LSD. Thats why i'm going to get the last generation 3L with LSD :D but in Auto for the electronic AWD system.

  • Was VDC on? I thought it would just throw all the power to the front wheels.

  • @Matty231 VDC was on. The right front wheel was spinning, but it was slightly touching the ground.

  • @badnmadyt Ahh yep, sweet car.
