  • Grand Prix Legends.

  • lol look at the tyres!

  • today this kind of track would be considered too dangerous for rally

  • @dario0807 eheh lol

  • Epic!

  • Someone has to dig deep in their archives and find all those wonderful onboard clips, and give them to us with natural sounds!

  • Lol Music :D

  • Amazing this... these guys had some balls

  • I recognized every bit of this track. Thank you Gran Turismo.

  • vagly picturing it in Grandturismo 5

  • wanna this track (without the last chicane) in some game ..

  • @karelpipa try the 70 nordschleife for gtr2

  • @MrThatzmi found on nogripracing(dot)com

  • They missed the best part the long straight :)

  • I went there three weeks ago with my Golf mk2. The track was intimidating and it was one hell of a ride even with the little Golf. I can't even start imagining the track back in those days and with those cars. Totally insane and amazing

  • @usern4meunkn0wn Gti Mk1 was loads more fun than the Mk2 (I've had both and the Mk2 seemed so much heavier) but they're getting harder to find now. Still, good for you for giving the Ring a try.

  • lol@ 2:10 ITS AS BUMPY AS HELL!

  • Back then drivers really needed golden balls. A little mistake and they were dead.

  • oh yeah pretty mental

  • Jackie Stewart along with Jackie Ickx, Stefan Bellof, John Surtees, Fangio etc is one of the kings of Nordsleife.

  • Formula One MY ASS!!!

That frontaxle is of a Volkswagen Beetle....

  • @Smarpache Yeah, don't know about the lead car, but the camera car was defiantly a Formula V.

  • @Plan9Kart The lead car was a 1600cc, four-cylinder F2 BMW- Lola T100 driven by Hubert Hahne.

  • @Plan9Kart Yes, you can see it clearly on the layout of the front axle, called Kurbellenkerachse.

  • My moms car have tires wider than that. Those guys were true drivers. Amazing.

  • тогда от гоньщиков требовалось намного больше труда и смелости чем в наше время

  • @charles19502010

    Old Nürburgring Nordschleife

  • @lifethelifetoday I recognize this track, in a game =P

  • Those were the days.. Bring back the Nordschleife to the F1 calendar!!!!

  • brilliant old video. anybody know what the music is?

  • back when racing drivers were men,not sissys like these days

  • check this site: onboard - videos . com

  • love this era, loads of power and the only crumple zone is your face

  • 40 people crashed their cars in the nordschleife

  • @ASSHOLELA

in reality, that number is probably in the thousands

  • @LongSchlong9000

40 people disliked this vid, get it?

  • How much of the current track is still public roads?

  • @bryonlape None. The track never featured public roads, although it was intended to have the characteristics of them to make them a proving ground for cars.

  • no racing curbs...

  • Love the (BALD) 1935 Ford Model A tyres on the camera car!!

  • Don't know where U guys find these diamonds but I hope they stay here. Great quality for onboard from that era. Hubert Hahne in a F2 Lola BMW. Looks for all the world like a formula vee but he qualified for the F1 race and was much faster than works F2 cars. ( half minute off Clarks pole time though ) Couple of stats - Winner was Hulme from Brabham & Amon. - Fastest lap & new record Gurney ( Gurney Weslake V12 ) 7m 15.1 sec. - percentage of the field destined to die in a racing car 41.5

  • @gcmc2 This is Hubert Hahne as mentioned - the very competent brother of the very competent touring car driver Armin Hahne. Armin was very much Hubert's kid brother having been born in 1955 while Hubert was born way back in in 1934.

  • this music should be on the f1 races today...

  • da mussten die fahrer noch die autos auf der strecke halten und nicht die autos, die fahrer.... skill 100% :)

  • F1 must return here once the resurrection device is invented :D

  • Look at those tires!!!

My god my mountain bike has thicker wheels!!!

  • 3:28 WTF? NITRO in 1967???

  • F1 Rally

  • ^ agree with all the above besides power sir

  • those years must have been incredible:

    Traction Control System: No

    Aerodynamics: No

    ABS:What?

    Power:Alot

    Weight:None

    Rollcage:You

  • @Dgrapiglia thanks health and safety!

  • @Dgrapiglia i like the rollcage bit :)

  • lol, watch those tyres...

  • @eatmohchicknsaystcow and the vw beetle suspension...

  • its as bumpy as hell! haha

  • nordschleife looks like a pig head!

  • To run at Nurburgring was very dangerous. However,I think 60-70s drivers F1 were very heroes...it wanted a lot of lucky and had a good drive if you wanted to go out from there.

  • Wow, thanks for uploading, this is very cool. amazing how much has changed, yet how much has stayed the same.

  • 3:30 Just found his KERS button.

  • "And it's over to you Mr Cholmondley-Warner"

Wish that people in England still talked like that.

  • No traction control, no semi automatic gearbox, no launch control, no anti-skid..... = no help from the car. You had to do it all yourself back then.

  • @xraycortina Exactly man, there is too much technology nowadays. F1 cars now are like space shuttles, trying to figure them out will give you a headache.

  • That looks so damn fun

  • Run this circuit in Gran Turismo 4 it's a nigthmare! is so long!:(

  • @KevinRock16 On the opposite! It's the best course you can drive, feel and race, either virtually or for real!

  • Run tis circuit in Gran Turismo 4 it's a nightmare! :( is so long !

  • @KevinRock16 i know the feeling!!!

  • @gnark - suspension might look linked but it's not. Camera car is a Formula Vee, based on bone stock Beetle engine & running gear. F1 obviously taking it very easy for this film. @speedfreak - 1967 best time in qualifying was 8:04

  • WOMEN, KNOW YOUR LIMITS

  • Simply incredable

  • @Clarksonbrown Incredible

  • They did that in 1967? Less than four minutes, or was it cut, or is this part shorter than what the production cars always try to beat each other at?

  • Not to be a complete perfectionist but. In respect of the track & the german language. Please try to remember there is a hell of a difference, between u & ü .. It's 2 different letters.. ü = german Y ... :)

  • No independent front suspension? looks linked, but might just be my eyes : P

  • I love those suspensions!

  • Theyrs was complete crasy to me; simply incredible.

  • I guess the bushes were too dangerous to keep, but they sure made the track look cool back then.

  • 3:30 this guy had nitrous

  • 3:07 he actuly got fcking airborne

  • 3:09 he actuly got fucking airborne

  • back when safety was a luxary

  • back when drivers dindnt have ABS and still drove thru curves without crashing

  • @waddlerobloxxxx except when they crashed

  • Were these engine's V12's or V8's?

  • @fgtxpaco7458ss

Lotus and Brabham used V8's (Ford-Cosworth and Repco).

Ferrari, Honda, Cooper and Eagle used V12's (Cooper used Maserati V12's, Eagle used Weslake V12's)

BRM used a H-16 engine (essentially two V8's on top of each other, and not their 50's V16 engine)

The F2 cars used 1,6 litre straight 4's.

Brabham-Repco took a double victory in the race, and went on to win both titles in 1967. The Lotus was clearly the fastest car though, but despite 4 wins it was unreliable and lost.

  • @McLarenMercedes thanks:)

  • great video! =) love the music. nurburgring nordschlief has changed so much i can hardly recognize it

  • wish they would race f1 on this track in todays times

  • ISSO QUE ERA PILOTAGEM , OS CARAS ERAM LOUCOS !!!!

  • Great vid. The only thing that'd make it any more enjoyable for me is a random "Listen here guy" from our good man the narrator.

  • @Doccaau lol

  • this is brilliant, dont recognise a single corner tho, all looks so different

  • THE GREEN HELL !! EIFEL - OHNE ZWEIFEL !!

(wir ham ja sonst nix hier) ;-D

  • FUCK YOU hermann tilke BASTARD !!!!!

  • Awesome, although i can't help but think of Wacky Races with the music and commentry xD

  • if you want to see a stretch in the track that was very dangerous for the drivers, watch parts 0:01 - 3:58

  • brilliant old video. F1 has come a long way since then as has the track. no room for error on the edges. classic 60's BBC commentary

  • wtf ! does the camera car got bicycle tyres on the front wheels ?? , lol

must be an formula vee car with a beetle chassis.

  • Nice music

  • great clip. no 2nd chances if you wander off the ciruit edge line

  • You just have to live the 50-60s commentary. :)

  • this is easy circuit compare with rally..i know this track coz of GT4.

  • @Gwee2008 Your a moron.

  • @Bobobidodo why you say moron? what i say is truth!!

  • 3:30 SOUUUUUND!!

  • It's hairy all right!!!

  • @solarflares1058 Yes, indeed.

  • Looks like 37 scared ball less wonders dropped in and ran away.

  • So the nurburgring isn't used for F1 anymore and i think that it is pretty pathetic. The purpose of the ring was to challenge the drivers and their cars, but when the cars got too fast to control, they blamed the track! (which is why other F1 tracks such as SPA for example were ruined in the intrest of "safety") Why not do suspension adjustments etc. to the cars and drive them here? Cuz they way things are going now it looks like F1 is gonna turn into nascar just with fancy wings on the cars...

  • @kjfordracing55 So you would really rather that people died for your entertainment?

  • @Ca1boa NO... What i'm saying is that the cars should be designed to handle the race conditions of difficult tracks like this, SPA, Circuit de la Sarthe (bring back the REAL Mulsanne) hell almost all the tracks are lame now, with sharp turns to prevent high speeds and they are just plain generic. The point of the Nurburgring was to challenge the driver as well as the car. well cars got faster and drivers didn't apparently adapt. new f1 cars can handle this if set up properly its been done by BMW

  • The level of concentration these guys had to have would put many quantum physicists to shame today. One liberty taken for granted too many and it could mean the difference between life and death.

Unless one has actually raced in open wheel (even karting counts) racing one will never know what its actually like.

  • Ahhh, they dont make them like they used to. You get a steering wheel 4 wheels monsterour engine, a manual gearbox Yes, there is less room for error, but this is where greatest drivers are manufactured.

  • best 360p video, 1967 film better quality than all the rest of the 360p youtube videos

  • It's the most beautiful track in the world!

I've been there countless times and it never gets boring!

Everyone who likes racing should go there at least once!

  • nürburgring forever,

in these times the drivers were real heros!

  • Those narrow tyres musy have made the cars so hard to drive...

  • holy crap! that's what nurburgring used to look like? Even more WILD

  • Randy Marsh from that southpark episode, when he has to carry his giant balls around in a wheelbarrow, would get a drive straight away with any of the teams from this era...

  • Absolutely amazing to watch these guys skittering around corners and over the bumps and humps on tyres not much wider than my mountainbike at speeds of 150- 170 MPH in cars where their feet stuck out further than their front wheels. True balls!

  • they arnt going full speed at thr ring,

just half speed, as the camera car is a fomula V car, folllowing what lookes like a

lotus 33 painted white or with the sun's glare on it,

  • do everyone have the video with the compete round in onboard?

  • beautiful track!

  • Amazin real drives good good good

  • sick video. I dont get how we got true life without youtube.

  • lol the only place with armco is the newest section, fuckin mental

  • OOPS,,,,, 3:58

  • the music fits so well

  • Awsome!

  • Anyone catch that both the race car and the camera car caught air numerous times on the bumps on the second half of the track? Balls of titanium I say.

  • The Nurburgring possessed a certain beauty back then.

  • omg,karusel 2:15 !!! Look at his head!!!

  • Back then, the Nurburgring looked nothing like it does now.

  • There are 3 pits in this circuit and a hotel.

  • it's a very circuit of nurburgring very strong

  • A stock 60HP formula V camera car with narrow treaded tyres ?? Very Odd??

  • Now days F1 is way better, i dont want to see racing drivers dying anymore.

  • @brunoiwa As much as I miss the old tracks, I agree that I'd rather see old drivers.

  • love the music

  • these guys had some serious nads.

  • I know about the nurnburg GP but its much to small, and camera coverage, comeone it's not that hard. you dont need camera's everywhere. Just mount them on strategic points and on the vehicles and it's great TV. About the fire engines, marshalls and so ok yeah it's a long circuit at almost 21 km but why not one race as a tribute to the greatness of the track?

And I will go drive it some day, but first i need a suitable car. :P

  • After doing Go karting and crashing etc... I can appreciate their speed, skill and balls.

It;s not easy to race with grass near you, others on your back and just doing 40-50 MPH that low felt faster and also my arms got killed LOL.

  • an era when racing drivers were real men - gladiators!

  • 36 people crashed on this track :D

  • 36 people had a crash on this beautiful track :D

  • Anyone know why there aren't f1 races on the nurnburg anymore? Heard it was because of safety issues, which I now think of as the most logical reason since safety realy wasn't visible anywhere back then. But now there are barriers all around the track and as already mentioned, the cars are alot safer these days. Think the nurnburgring has to be reintroduced into F1

  • @prokiller75 Because today Formula is all about money and has terrible Bahrein, China, Singapore circuits. Today's formula cars were too low for the bumpy curves and carousells.

  • @prokiller75 In all likelihood, it's because the cars have gotten wider which means there's less room on the track (it's only as wide as a two lanes wide in most places, because it's technically a public road). Also the cars are faster and the paved surface might be a bit narrower, I can't remember.

Besides, there's the GP/F circuit, so it hasn't truly left yet.

  • @prokiller75 Actually I'm fairly sure it was the F1 crash where a bloke burnt his ear off that finally did it for F1 at the Nurburgring, although why they thought opening it to the public was a safer idea I don't know.

  • Comment removed

  • @prokiller75 the reason they dont use the 'nordschleife (the track you see here) is that they couldn't have enough run off areas installed because of the cost involved, also it is bad for television coverage because you would need so many cameras and because there would be too much distance between marshals, fire engines and ambulances. If you want to experience the old track, go drive it, seriously it is a great day out!

the german grand prix often runs on the loop of track in the south east

  • Anyone know why there aren't f1 races on the nurnburg anymore? Heard it was because of safety issues, which I know think of as the most logical reason back then. But now there are barriers all around the track and as already mentioned, the cars are alot safer these days. Think the nurnburgring has to be reintroduced into F1

  • Ghostrider style :D

  • These guys had elephant sized balls. I can admire guys like Schumacher, but after seeing this, even he seems a bit gay.

  • Love this and love the soundtrack. What is it, anyone know?

  • i want this music in gt5. And why would they call it "torture" i would be happy just because i got to drive a racecar at the Nürburgring.

  • This is back when the drivers were fat and the tires were skinny...

  • music haha

  • i was w8n for them to throw an anchor out the back on every corner

  • Funny seeing the track without graffiti all over it. :p

  • I didn't know John Cleese did F1 commentary

  • Expenses in F1 have gone down since the 1960s because teams don't need an extra pit crew to help the driver carry around his balls when he is not in the car.

  • @Enrage13 awesome .. i'm hurting right now

  • @Enrage13 Then Senna requested the extra pit crew again

  • @mtv218

Senna, as brilliant as he was, drove on neutered tracks when compared to the guys from the 1960s and 70s.

  • @Enrage13 studys have showen that racing drivers, racing cars this insane. Actually didnt have balls, they would be too afraid of loosing them like us normal humans. To drive as fast as they did/do.. :p

  • best circuit on earth!

  • Wow, how that track has changed...

  • balls and fasts ness.

  • When men had balls.. didnt cry and smoked cigarettes beside propane tanks.

  • @fondeur , you're not a man if you smoke...you're a man when you risk your life at your own will.

  • @KillerDreck89 Precisely

  • never realized how skinny those tires are back in the old days lol

  • Mr tree meet Mr car... Mr Car meet Mr tree!

  • thumbs up if Top Gear brought you here ..
