And, lastly, putting the computer in tablet mode actually disable the keyboard. (reversing the screen and closing it) bring 2 things :
- You can't access the real keyboard (by lifting the screen a bit) and so use CTRL, Shift or Alt fonctions while in that mode. (people who use Adobe Products might hate that)
- If you turn off the computer while it's in tablet mode, the next time you turn it on, the screen will still be reversed until you actually put it back in tablet mode and open it again.
The Pen isn't pressure sensitive and the computer is currently incompatible with Wacom's drivers. (they product can work... but without certain attributes like the pressure and angles.)
So people who're doing digital arts/design which require pressure or pression or both might need to either buy another computer or work without those fonctions. (By manually change brushes sides and angles.)
And there's 1 major issus with this computer. HP ISN'T working on a solution. If the Input Mode is set to either dual (both Touch and Pen) or Pen mode, there can be some issue with the pointer. (when you're not using the pen, the pointer can move to a certain region in the screen at any time. To remove this problem, you need to change the input mode to "Touch Mode only".
For me, it's make the point go&click right in the Tab area, in the middle of the screen, which close/open new tab randomly.
Video RAM can go up to 1.9 Go, but with the latest game, it goes up to a bit less than 1 Go in performances (due to the RAM used by the game. So, yeah, people are able to play games like Crysis with this computer.)
i just order'd mine i should be getting it on Tuesday. does anybody know if there is a difference between this model and the tx2-1274nr? and what country is nr?(i am located in the us but this seems to be the only one best buy sells)
I want to buy this wonder, BUT in Pakistan, AMD Processors are notorious for the fact that they fry!!! Is this true??? The temperature over here rise upto 50 degrees celsius. Would it survive??? Also by performance, can it compete with the Core 2 Duo of the same clock???
Well these computers do not over heat as Much as the TX2 1000 series did so I wouldn't worry about over heating damage or noisy fan also The New 1300 series is alot faster then the older models.
AMD processors offer generally better performance than their Intel equivalents with the same clock but they get H-O-T. In my previous laptop the wireless card got burned out because of it.
I am SO frustrated as a Mac user that Apple is consistently ignoring this technology. I hate Windows. Hate it. But I want this laptop! What is wrong with you Apple?
what´s wrong with people who hate windows? do you think it´s cool to be a mac-user? usw whatever u want but don´t pretend like mac is something special

i bought a compaq (hp brand ofc) like 3 years ago and it overheats too fast and the power adapter heats and sizzles like sssssss -_- really hot. only 1.8ghz Turion Mobile (1 core)
I can't wait to buy the 1270us I want it badly I hope they don't stop selling them cause I'm planning on using my whole school year of writing prjects with it so I don't have to look for every key like every 15 seconds.
wait until windows 7 and they update the pen driver. Right now, the pen pressure points only works with Sketchbook Pro since photoshop was made with wacom in mind.
It's not a bad tablet to do vector art if you don't really use pen pressure points.
So its a software thing. If it works with sketchbook, that's fine with me
i'm planning to use it as a digital sketchbook for concept art en photoshop. I use photoshop with my mouse, so no pressure functions either. Thanks for you reply ! :)
If you're not using the pressure, then it's a good tablet. =) I don't use the pressure either since I use it for vectors in illustrator, but some graphic designer seem to make a big deal about the pressure.
Hi, I also got this laptop but I have a question, when I adjust the display brighness a "buzzing" sound is heard in the little hole where I plug in the charger, and if I lower the brightness to 0% the sound goes off. Is that normal?I heard some people with the same problem. PLEASE REPLY.
Hey,I emailed Hp Customer Support, and they told me this : AC Power adapters do emit high frequency sounds (15 kHz-20 kHz) that may be misunderstood as hissing or crackling noise. This is normal and not an indication of a failing adapter. The temperature of the adapter also may feel warm to the touch. This is normal operation too. However, if the heat or the noise is beyond permit-able level, the issue may be with the AC adapter and may be going bad.
If you can read on an ordinary LCD normally, so can you on this one - OK, this is probably better, because it's more handy and you can set the best angle for reading.
I got mine today... but there was 1 problem, the screen was broken, so I've sent it back! Now they say they don't want to give me a new one and don't wanna give me my money back :S FUCK HP
well im just a kid but honestly parents would probably buy u one if they didnt care much aout you, or if ur a great child. i think i wouldnt deserve some stuff if i got them, but lol rite now i deserve this laptop... -.-
This is the best notebook I've ever purchased. It's a graphic designers or game developers wet dream on the go. Windows 7 even works great on it, albiet I don't see much reash to completely switch to it just based on touch as Vista worked the same it seemed.
When my parents saw it they said the exact same thing. but...serriously you get used to the screen size. Fingerprints come off really easy. It comes with a cloth that cleans them off. The Keyboard thing is complete BS. The only thing related is when you shut it off in tablet mode... the keyboard will stop working. if this happens just remove the battery for 5 seconds and the problem is solved...I would reccomend this computer to any college or soon to be college student. Great for taking notes.
why should they have to? just because apple did it first dosnt mean they copied apple. those gestures are simply the most ligical gestures. why should they have to make something else.
Show me 1 just 1 Apple branded computer with a Touchscreen! Even if its JUST a monitor! Apple has NEVER done this so stop trying to ride the Apple jock. Too much limitation - sure they have crazy patents but nothing delivered to fully use them = useless. I love Apple but I don't like lack of delivering full potential to consumers. Modbook is NOT owned by Apple - but they've licensed Mac OS X as a partner.
I really want to get one of these things. I was thinking of waiting until Windows 7 comes out; but then again, upgrading Windows OS systems is easy, and I could give my current computer to my dad (who DESPERATELY needs one). :P
I actually find this laptop pretty cool if n-trig just developed some decent drivers to support their hardware it wouldn't lag so much but I guess thats what they're trying to do with windows 7
I think HP is on the right track with touch screen devices. Personally I like having as many input options as possible. Hopefully windows 7 will just make it all better. The only thing about Apple's that I like are how skinny the form factor is. It is useless to keep arguing about the OS especially when you can put whatever OS you want.
Apple already have computers with multi-touch trackpads; their latest generation of notebooks have gestures using up to four fingers. The way Apple already blows HP out of the water is the fact that these notebooks runs OS X.
Credits to HP, but who wants to be reaching up to touch their screen all day? Look how low they have the tx2 positioned for this vid. Considering current computer form factors, Apple's got the right approach here. All they need is multi-touch mouse replacement.
you're right, OS X can be run on systems other than Apple machines, but I'd rather stick to using my iMac/MacBook to take care of that. much less buggy.
back on topic, this looks like a great notebook with some pretty slick multitouch capability... I've always been a huge fan of HP, and were it not for switching to OS X and being able to run Windows alongside it on my Apple stuff now, I'd probably still be buying their products :).
just because a company offers a certain product doesn't make it "legal"... at least in the eyes of Apple (look at all the lawsuits that have been going back and forth between the two companies). if it weren't for the TOS violations fueling the dispute between Apple/Psystar, I would totally agree with you.
I'd still much rather buy an Apple computer running OS X and pay the "Apple Premium" than buy a higher-specced but unjustifiably buggy system from Psystar (it's just my preference).
I hate to mention it, but hardware is nothing without proper drivers... for example- in several video reviews I've seen of Psystar systems, the fans were permanently running at full tilt (both of my Apple systems are whisper quiet to a fault, regardless of system load)... so maybe "buggy" wasn't the best choice of words (intrusive is more like it).
we could both argue about the merits of either company until we're blue in the face, but in the end it's still a matter of preference.
They download drivers from Apple site? Ah doesn't matter, I am sure they would fix things before selling them. And I partly agree with you, original is best, but I hate Apple because of their ads and stuff :).
A tablet is a whole other thing, and Apple would be wise to release one. Agreed.
Doesn't change the fact that notebooks and desktops are, at this point, cumbersome for touchscreens, as neither are not raised-arm friendly. The demonstrator has the TX2 positioned lower than it would normally be used; he's probably sick of working with it on a desk. Try touching your desktop screen at work all day; arm fatigue will set in quite quickly.
Oh, the iPhone is a multi-touch computer - face it.
Just because a piece of technology is implemented doesn't mean it NEEDS to be used. This machine could simply be used as a standard laptop if the person using it wanted to, and never use the touchscreen at all.
That, I think, is pretty cool; having more than one option on how to do something makes things more accessible. It's probably why I won't get an iPhone either. What if the touchscreen just stops working one day, and I'm miles from an Apple store?
The tablet aspect of the TX2 is attractive, granted, but not in notebook mode. And what is "Multi-touch trackpads != multi-touch screen. Simply put." supposed to mean?
Did anyone notice the use of the MS Surface computer on MSNBC during the election returns? The anchor's hands got in the way of what you were supposed to see, whereas if he'd been using an offscreen device like a trackpad, it would have been MUCH clearer - one more reason MT screens are inapprorpriate for many tasks.
A multi-touch screen is a lot better than a multi-touch trackpad. Look at the iphone; if phones have a keyboard already why would you want to get rid of it and just have an onscreen keyboard? :P

Multi-touch trackpads != multi-touch screen. Simply put.

Well if you have it in tablet mode it would be like a huge touch screen phone.

This is the reason why I went with a LG Voyager over the Iphone, I think a physical keyboard is essential.
I get my hp touchsmart in 9 days, so excited!

I absolutely LOVE a physical keyboard. And enjoy your new TouchSmart! :D
