i absolutely adore this film i find it hits me throughout the course of the story. so good is the acting and choreography. i especially cry watching billies father struggling to provide a good home and future for his youngest and the realisation eventually his son needs to lead his own life and interests. the freindship between michael and billy is just beautiful and innocent. but the best tear jerker is the end swan lake leap. i wanted the film to last another 15 mins. great film

I like at the beginning when it looks like his fingers are talking almost. They get excited at one point at the anticipation of this epic song and they start flicking. 0:14. And then at 0:30 they say "got it." Classic stuff here.
I can never rate this film high enough. For me it's up there amongst the 'streetcar' 'godfathers' - numerous classics! It's beautiful , poignant and leaves you thinking!

@margatelad one interpretation is to shows that men can function by themselves effectively. as in, the movie deals with issues of masculinity, and eventually billie crosses that gender difference. the women are slowly struck off- grandmother is delusional, later dead. debbie is rejected. mom is dead, wilkinson (potential substitute figure) shuns him.
the only ppl billie needs in his life are the 4 ppl at the end: dad, tony, micheal, and the nameless black dude (assumed to be billie's BF)
@margatelad to cut a long story short. it shows that men don't need to be defined as men through conventional standards ("manly" sports), and not by their relationships with women (note the constant fear of billie being a "poof"). you can be a complete, successful man even when u dance, have a boyfriend, and bond with other men in a homo-social (not homosexual) way. hope that made sense.
that being sad, i was also sad that billie & his teacher didn't even get a proper good-bye ='(

I totally disagree, I pulled "Billy Elliott, Cosmic Dancer" to watch scenes from the movie, not listen to the song. If I wanted just to hear the song I would have pulled "TRex Cosmic Dancer" or Marc Boland... you catch my drift? I liked the lines in the movie over the music as it's just an OK song and a really great, uplifting movie and hearing them reminds me of that...
