  • gila monsters are amazing reptiles. the color is ridiculous. im in az and still havent seen one but hopefully some day i ll be lucky enough.

  • I'm with ya there. I think Gilas are cute too.

  • Poor guys, they're just trying to make a living like everyone else. And they are pretty cute too!

  • Awesome video! I looooooovvvvvvvveee Gila Monsters! They are sooooooooo awesome!

  • in North America, you mean, the world (to some ppl it's probably the same, no offense there!)

EVEN TOUGH I might just be in a bad mood since it's actually very true as many monitor lizards has proven to be venomous recently and there's none of them in NA

  • My granddad, who was born on a homestead near Denver, in 1893, hated Gila Monsters, as did everyone of his generation. Which probably explains why there were lots then and are few now . . .

  • Byetta is made from a protein in Gila Monster venom that is. :O)

  • Hi,

I really like yr video. I'm a docent at the Albuquerque Zoo. A useful insulin drug made from a protein in Gila Monsters is Byetta.

I have taken lots of animal vid footage. How do I add comments and music to my videos?

I would appreciate the help in that direction.

  • Are those things territorial?

  • @Callofduty4nub Not as much as Mexicans from East L.A.

  • Really awesome video! It's nice that you took the time to do such a great job on the video. Hopefully it will educate some people about this lizard's rarity, and venomousness....is that a word? At one time the Gila Monster was thought to be the ONLY poisonous lizard in the world, but the Komodo Dragon is also venomous. My American Bulldog takes her name from the Gila Monster; her name is The N'Gila Monster!!!

  • 0:31 swagga

  • I killed a Gila Monster tonight...he was in my backyard and was hissing at my dog...felt bad.

  • @Semperfi1221 then maybe you could have oh i dont know CALLED YOUR DOG AWAY and left the lizard alone ya mugg

  • @pkandcm He's in a walled off backyard, I'm not going to let a poisonous lizard stay in backyard for hours just so he can decide when he wants to hop back over my wall and leave.

  • @Semperfi1221 You would have felt worse with a dead dog.

  • thats nothing my roomate has one of those and two beaded lizards

  • @blairwitchprojects yeah thats nothing my room mate in band camp has, wait for it, a frog i know a real frickin frog can you believe that i know i cant but its true realy realy true

  • @blairwitchprojects thats nothing my roomate has a beaded clam and two boobies

  • Yeah, if I see one, trust me, last thing Im gonna do is mess with it. I dont wanna die yet.

  • yes please respect these reptiles there are alot of people who think they have to kill them if they see them just cuz they are known to be posionus, there have not been many cases of people dieing due to Gila bites cuz they simply dont bother humans and are not seen very offten. dont be a pest to them if u see them and be respectful of them from a distence.

  • looks like paradise canyon to me

  • @charisboof and @Adam98671 I'm actually in college geography. I'm sorry you guys, I may be an animal lover, but I haven't been interested in gila monsters lately. It was actually my brother, Josiah, who wrote the comment from my account instead of using his (DERECARTRON, not FabulousSir) about your gila monster video. He's more of the lizard guy. Two days ago, he bought a baby frilled lizard. To tell you honestly, it's a sweet video you have about gila monsters.

  • I have seen 3 of them in the past 4 years. One just the other week trying to get into my dog kennel area. My chihuahuas alerted me to the fact that there was an imposter in the yard. To my surprise it was a gila monster lol. After poking it with a dull stick in the face area (not too hard) it "ran" away. They do move a bit faster than the video when they are "running" but not much. Lucky you girls got to see one!

  • @FabulousSir, the last I checked Mexico is one of the countries of "North America."

  • @charisboof

They're also the only two venomous lizards in the whole world, apparently.

  • @FabulousSir Sounds like someone needs a geography lesson...loser!

  • i like its swagg likes its sayin: OG COMIN THRU OG COMIN THRU

  • yeah! gila monster vs beaded lizard do it doit!!!!!

  • it looks like a big leopard gecko !??!?!?!? O.o

  • hes a cute lil fella i want one

  • it looks like a spotted dick lol, i mean look at its head. XD

    cool vid btw

  • yeah i seen a baby one in Arizona in scottsdale at my job in a golf course. it was scary cuz i aint never seen a lizard that big (even tho it was a baby" but i saw anotha creautre at my job a faT!! widee orangish red lizard. by size it was like a big turtle and was pretty fast. help me find it lol

  • I have lived in Arizona in the small town of Mammoth for many many years, non-consistently. But in May 2010, I saw one of these lizards roaming into my yard in his slow crocodile-like way. They are not aggressive, thankfully. If you keep your distance, it might show curiosity, tasting the air with its black tongue, but it will sooner turn around and leave you alone than anything. It was an amazing encounter. I hope that old one is doing okay.

  • Seriously I used to go to the zoo as a boy and just watch these guys for two hours & sketch them everywhere

  • @cha5 even if the Komodo Dragon was poisonous, they said in North America, not the world. smh

  • I love it's walk

  • Even cooler, they are usually not found in Utah. Most are found in Arizona, but if you did find one in Utah, it would most likely be in southern Utah.

  • he walks awesome,

  • Great video, I found a small one when I was in AZ in the Superstition Mountains, it was a baby about 6 inches long, got some nice pictures of it, wish i had taken some video footage now.

  • Cool! A baby one would probably be pretty cute, I imagine. We were lucky to get some decent video.

  • Nice Vid. I am trying to find a pair for my 90 gallon tank from a breeder. They almost look like the blue tounged skink.

  • I live my whole life running around in the desert surrounding Phoenix and came across a gila monster once. I had no idea how rare they were, and didn't even know what it was. It was beautiful though so I gave it room and just watched. I hope one day my boys can see one in the wild.

  • Yeah, we were the same - no idea of its rarity. We were impressed enough (and fortunate enough to have our cameras) to take quite a bit of footage. I hope your boys can see one, too.

  • @mttdettloff except that they are extremely deadly....

  • Grat video, but gila monsters are NOT the only venomous lizards in North America. There also is the mexican beaded lizard, they are the only venomous lizards on Earth. Other than that the video is fine.

  • I heard about the Mexican Bearded Lizard after making the video. Thanks for the accuracy- I have made a note in the video.

  • The only venomous lizards on Earth?

There is also the Komodo Dragon.

  • The komodo dragon is not venomous. Their bite can cause pretty nasty infection though because of all the bacteria in them.

  • @shmee10

Yes you're quite right about that, my mistake,

The amount of bacteria that they have in their mouths though can kill an animal in seconds and is just as dangerous as the bite from a large number of venomous animals out there, (or more so) anything that gets caught in

    those jaws is a goner.

  • @shmee10 Actually recent research has discovered a venom in komodo dragons and other monitors along with most 'non-venomous' snakes. I found that mildly amusing when I read about that.

  • @shmee10 Yes, they have a cocktail of highly infectious bacteria for saliva.

  • @shmee10 the komodo dragon IS venomous it has venom glands that release venom when the animal bites down on prey , you should do a bit of research before you start typing

  • are we noe dat yaar

  • I used to deliver pizzas in Scottsdale AZ. A family had just bought a house there and twice had to call someone to take a gila monster out of their pool. Beautiful creatures. I got to see one up close when it was stuck in the pool.

  • Weird about being in the pool. I've read that dunking a gila monster in a pool of water is a good way to get one off of you if it has latched on. It's so rare to have one bite a human, and it seems like it would be even rarer to have one bite and then have a convenient pool nearby in which to dunk it!

  • I live in southern Utah...and I go mountain biking and on hikes...and im still waiting to see a gila monster!! Your lucky to see one! :)

  • WaffleBrother, I totally know! I wish everyone could see one who wanted to! Thanks for the comment.

  • AWESOME! excellent editing & pacing -- wonderful text content and good music too! Congratulations for this sighting -- I'm so happy y'all appreciate them like I do.

  • Thanks! I'm still in awe that we got to see this creature and learn about it. It's incredibly fortunate. Neat that you get to seem them somewhat regularly!
