He doesn't use anything to change his vocals. That's his actual growling voice, quite extraordinary if you ask me, in fact, one of the best out there. Those damn Norsemen have this tendency to be awesome at growling/grunting/and everything that starts with "gr..." :)

@chezarii i think that it is his actual voice, but the sound gets enhanced with a little reverb. That makes the sound of his clean almost instantly a lot easier done.

i realize he keeps is low grunting style for the entire song . where he is going higher , he is pushing is grunt up.

the remarkable is taht he can do the clean high tones when he has done some grunting. that´s the tricky part.
