Here's an idea instead of spending 50k a year on an inmate. Why don't judges instead pay for them to have an education say in a medical field that way convicts actually contribute something to society instead of sending them to prison to get laid and become tougher criminals

Our safety during this trip was handled by the prisoners themselves. You won't notice from the video but the perimeter was being managed by prisoners of the T.R.U.S.T. Collective.

@hork111 I actually checked out Barry Scheck's project and it they used a heavy screening process. they only took cases where there was newly presented DNA evidence that wasn't allowed to be used in court. they have overturned over 200 cases, but even then it's still rare. that's horrible that that many people were wrongly convicted, but to make an assumption like that based on 200 poorly handed cases is wrong. there are 2+ million people in prison right now. and sorry if I sounded like an ass

what the inmate said was so true, the US needs to force kids into joining something productive, and it also need to offer those services for free. Detectives choose the path of least resistance, they're trying to clear cases, not necessarily protect the innocent. Homicide detectives in particular have a saying: "The first witness is the first suspect."

Some of it is justified by high inner-city crime rates but much of it is not. Black and brown minorities know it pays to be wary of cops. And defining "dozens of wrongly-convicted" as rare is flat-out short-sighted. These dozens might be the tip of the iceberg. I grew up in the south in the 60's, it was easy to vanish in the maw of the criminal justice system.

@hork111 I actually checked out Barry Scheck's project and it they used a heavy screening process. they only took cases where there was newly presented DNA evidence that wasn't allowed to be used in court. they have overturned over 200 cases, but even then it's still rare. that's horrible that that many people were wrongly convicted, but to make an assumption like that based on 200 poorly handed cases is wrong. there are 2+ million people in prison right now. and sorry if I sounded like an ass

what the inmate said was so true, the US needs to force kids into joining something productive, and it also need to offer those services for free. Both these reasons are why kids now are gettin in trouble. Kids clearly have nothin to do these days, and if they hve troubled lives at home, they at least could have some guidance of a sports coach or some other responsible adult.

I've seen these "urban" youth programs that are simply unemployed adults who've never worked giving stupid, vapid "motivation" speeches to kids.

If you have to do time, America is the best place to do it! They actually feed you and give you something to sleep on! You dont have to rely on friends or family to bring you food daily! They are not severely overcrowded and the violence is minimal! It beats the shit out of doing time in Colombia,Thailand or even France! Americans bend over backwards to treat there citizens good!

Okay. Pretty much I agree with what you said about helping the poor kids and families. So what I'm saying is that if you take a step back, you will find that these people in prison often come from poor families or grew up poor as kids.
We as a society need to find ways of addressing the needs of the poor--the people in poverty--because increases in poverty usually means an increase in criminality and other problems in society.
