@Klauwsawitzz Where does religion teach compassion and tolerance and love? I've read the bibles and I don't find love and compassion, I find it does advocate slavery, rape, child molestation, and a hatred for anything outside of what the book says. Morality is not a part of the religious teachings, and if a person says otherwise I then know for a fact that person has not read the bibles. Everything you said is the exact opposite of reality, but you may be fine with that. I am not.

As for the slaves they were treated quite differently then the kind more recently practiced and could only be in servitude for so long before by law being released. You also fail to account for the time period and culture back then. The bible is more the story of a lover reaching into a dirty world to save his beloved. It's in the book of Luke 19;27. People pretend it's a parable, but it's not. It's jesus saying to those who did not accept him as king to bring the unbeliever to him and to slay them at his feet. @InteGrayting2 God did not advocate slavery as you think of it today, and as I explained with 'cultural reference' at the time, he made a system for paying off debts that was fair to both rich and poor but as usual humans abused it despite theses laws. "A man of a certain birth..." Is the start of a parable and the owner's coming back alludes to Jesus coming back when the wicked receive their punishment. An easy offer of grace to anyone who wants it but those that hate others will choose death.

The required freedom of hebrew slaves after 6 years Exodus 21:2 and Deuteronomy 15:12. Exodus 23:9 and Leviticus 19:33-34 Talks about how foreign slaves are to be treated. @metallavery Yes, it's called Bread and Circuses. They find a world whose version of the Roman Empire never fell. All the way through they hear of a new religion of sun worshipping. They comment at the end on how odd it is that a primitive sub worship religion is gaining ground, only to be told "You don't understand, it's not the sun in the sky... it's the son of god."
Unusual moment from a show that was on the whole quite rationalist. (Roddenberry himself was an atheist.)

That sun/son argument only works with English, It doesn't work with Greek, the language of the day. υιος huios hwee-os’ apparently a primary word;

@BondFreek Um, for one, agnostics are atheists. For another, Roddenberry was an atheist, not an agnostic.
And a philosophy of total brotherhood and love is fine. But believing in god is irrational, yes.

@Parrotguy1999 1st look up Roddenberry’s biography, it clearly states that he was an agnostic. Agnostics are not atheists LOOK UP THE DEFINITION! Let’s look at rational for a moment. Is it rational to assume that everything comes from something? Where did the universe come from? Light particles? Where did they come from? If our universe is finite as most scientist claim what started it? Why is the universe so complex? The only rational conclusion for now is that there is a God.

@BondFreek Ha ha - so how is god an explanation for that? If everything must come from something then where did god come from, hmmm? And if one believes that god needs no origin, then one can just as rationally omit him altogether and say the universe needs no origin.

@Parrotguy1999 Maybe God came from another God or maybe God was telling the truth when he said to Moses I'm the Alfa and the Omega. Maybe God created himself. If that does not make sense to you it is only because you can’t think past the 4 dimensions you live in, Height, width, depth and time. Lots of people have seen God first hand even people in the last 40 years. Padre Peo was one of them. I dare you to call them liars to their faces.

A rational person rejects no possibilities even the possibility of God. Roddenberry was a rational person not an irrational atheist. As for “"god I just invented”” thing; That was from primitive religions not from true eye witness who saw God. Even people in the 20th century have seen God. Go ahead I dare you to call them liars.

@BondFreek Seriously, you think that argument makes sense? The fact that all agnostics are atheists doesn't mean all atheists are agnostic, just as the fact that all Americans are people doesn't mean that all people are Americans.
And no, people who believe in god are not rational; not about their belief in god, at least. They may be rational about anything and everything else.

They respect other people’s rights to believe and don’t believe the possibility of God to be irrational. An atheist is someone like you; they don't believe in God and must attack people who do believe in God at any given chance.

The "a" prefix means "lacking" or "absent". An a-gnostic is one who lacks *knowledge* with regards to the existence of god. An a-theist is one who lacks *belief* with regards to god. Belief and knowledge are two utterly different things. You can have any combination - agnostic atheist, agnostic theist, gnostic atheist, gnostic theist. Do some reading on the subject before you spout off about it.
